It’s the New Year, things could happen. Perhaps things have already happened and the students sitting innocently on the train that drives them across the Scottish plains is bringing them closer to the place they should be avoiding. Who knows, this is Hogwarts after all.
The victory place of the defeat of Who Shall Not Be Named, and the triumph of the boy who lived. The history books spill over with the knowledge of this story and everyone knows it. But is it really over?
I guess we will have to wait and see. For know, the students make there way onto a new adventure. A new life, and life is going to be a magical ride.
That much is a guarantee.

Tegan kissed each of her parents quickly on the cheek, “I really ought to board the train now. I want to find Arabella and Mason before we go too far.” Her mother asked, as she had every year since Tegan began attending Hogwarts, “Are you sure you have everything?” Tegan nodded, “I packed and double-checked. Just as always. I promise to write as soon as we are settled and I will see you over the holidays.” Her mother nodded, looking at the train apprehensively. Saying good-bye to her parents always made Tegan feel like a first year again, wishing she had just one more day to stay at home with her parents. Of course, she loved Hogwarts with all of her heart, but the transition often made her a bit homesick. The wizarding world was so different from the Muggle world, which made the first week even stranger as Tegan resituated herself with floating candles and missing ceilings and steps to skip or risk losing fifteen minutes trying to free her leg from the grasps of that impish enchantment.
Tegan turned her head as the whistle blew, reminding students to hop on or be left behind. A little later than she had planned, she supposed, but it was not like she had far to walk to get on the train. Tegan waved at her parents a final time, “I love you.” They responded in unison, “I love you, too.” Tegan blew a kiss at them as she stepped onto the train, sliding her bag into a more favorable position on her shoulder as she slid between the others standing in the corridor.
Tegan was quickly delayed from her mission to find Mason and Arabella when she saw a group of first years huddled together in the hallway. They appeared to be lost. Or perhaps confused about where they were supposed to go. Tegan cast a quick look around, no compartments in the immediate vicinity were open, so she would have to find them somewhere to go.
Tegan walked up to the group, waving an arm, “Let us go this way. There are usually more open compartments at the back.” The first years paused, not sure if they should follow her. Tegan repeated, “Come on. We would not want you to miss your chance for an open compartment.” She started walking, they still waited, but eventually seemed to find her a worthy companion and followed her to an open compartment. Finally. Who had taught those kids to be so distrustful? Perhaps because she looked nothing like a railway employee, or even a Hogwarts student considering her Muggle garb. Well, she wanted to take the opportunity to wear trousers for a while longer before she was consigned to skirts for the majority of the rest of the year. A real inconvenience, trying to wear a skirt when she was in a rush. It just blew around or twisted between her legs making it difficult to hurry. Skirts always made stairs difficult, especially around her third year when she had been very frightened of pervy boys looking up her skirt.
Finding an empty compartment at the end of the train, Tegan slid the door open for the first years, waving an arm to let them in. They filed in in front of her, settling down once they were seated within. They already looked much livelier. Perhaps because they knew what to do now. Or at least being out of the eyes of scrutiny. There was safety in that. Tegan nodded, “Best of luck with the sorting ceremony. I will see you at the feast.” With that, Tegan slid their compartment door shut and decided to return to the task of catching up to Mason and Arabella. She figured she could find Mason by being quiet and listening for a minute or two, his loud voice would quickly draw attention to itself. Aera might be trickier, as the girl was wont to change her appearance at a moment’s notice. Tegan would probably be better off allowing Arabella to find her. There was more accuracy in that method, rather than guessing as to who exactly Aera looked like today. Or who she might look like in five minutes.
---
Mason assured his mother, dodging as she tried to rearrange his curls more pleasurably, “I’ll be sure to keep up with all my work. But the exams aren’t until next year anyways. Plenty of time to relax in the meantime.” His father opened his mouth in reproach, trying to correct Mason’s horrid misconception. Mason cut him off with a laugh, “Just kidding. I cut out all the boring classes anyway, so my grades’ll be great. Just watch.”
With a final farewell to his parents, Mason bounced onto the train, eager to be moving forward to the next topic. The train ride could be dreadfully long, with ages passing between his first steps aboard to stepping inside the Great Hall. Sometimes he swore he could feel himself aging while he was waiting to arrive.
Seeing everyone on the train made him feel a bit nostalgic. Maybe it was because he was a big, bad sixth year now, but he felt so old. He had been a first year a lifetime ago, hopping around looking for an empty seat before he found one with Tegan, who had attempted to look very busy and clever with her book for a while, sneaking glances around the side of it, until she decided to make friends. Mason doubted it was shyness that drove her too it, Tegan was hardly a very shy creature. But maybe nerves, or a desire not to seem desperate to befriend the first person she laid eyes on. Regardless of Tegan’s secret motivations on the day they met, they had become fast friends on that train ride, chatting about their common Muggle experiences (the loathsome time spent in primary school especially) and in general cheerily passing time until they arrived at Hogwarts.
It had been something of a shame when they were sorted into separate houses. But Mason loved Gryffindor, the people there were always good for a laugh and an adventure. He got on quite well there. And Tegan seemed like a born Hufflepuff, easily fitting in with her housemates, as well as others. Even that kid Jeong-Tae, the relative of Arabella, seemed to fit in nicely with his house, all brains and sharp edges. Not that there was necessarily a ‘stereotype’ for the houses. Well, there was of course, but Mason didn’t think many people really fit the bill for it. There were Ravenclaws who were rather dim-witted, but who fit in because of their desire to learn. And one painfully shy Gryffindor who Mason had yet to figure out what had drawn her to his house. His questions had been met by her rushing away and avoiding him completely for weeks on end. Even now that girl still looked at him fearfully. Then there was Arabella, who, from what Mason had seen of her, didn’t seem to belong in Slytherin, but there she was. Perhaps she held their values close to her heart but had yet to truly follow them. Or maybe she only seemed not to fit in because they antagonized her about the peculiar circumstances surrounding her heritage. It was rather strange, a metamorphamagus from a Muggle family with a wizarding cousin to boot. But a good story at least. Some of the more “traditional” Slytherins were loath to have such a girl in their house, sullying the pure-bloodedness they so prized. That seemed like something that ought to have been left behind at the Battle of Hogwarts in Mason’s opinion.
The thought was not really gone yet. Perhaps it was the Muggle education that instilled this thought in him, endless history lessons about people clashing because of minor differences like blood or appearance. And Mason had not even seen much of it, as he had left Muggle education for Hogwarts when he was 11. He knew things had to get more serious as students matured, just as they had at Hogwarts. Learning about the Battle of Hogwarts was reserved for older students who could hear of the brutality and death toll without sobbing or writing home desperate letters asking to retrieved as soon as possible.
Still, there was not much he could do in Aera’s defense except make sarcastic comments when they were rude or continually ask in his most annoying intrepid reporter fashion why they held these ideas and who exactly taught them and didn’t they think it was a little old fashioned. That seemed to put people off, trying to justify something that was too stupid for logic to lower itself to defend them.
While he was pondering what he could do about this problem, most of this idea revolved around him asking people questions until they became uncomfortable and agreed to become better people, he spotted Tegan. She was busy being Tegan, helping a group of first years into their very own apartment. She couldn’t seem to help herself. Mason imagined if she ever saw some sort of creepy-crawly creature about to be tread on she would lunge to protect the poor, innocent thing. Tegan turned around, apparently making her way back down the aisle, Mason waved. He grinned, “Hey! I can’t believe we haven’t even been on this train five minutes and you’ve already rescued some first years.” Tegan replied, greeting him with a hug, “Hello to you too. It’s not like nervous first years are in short supply. They do not know the rules and no one else was looking out for them.” Mason said, “What if you gave up the last compartment?” Tegan rolled her eyes, brushing past him, “I think this train is big enough for all of us. Have you seen Arabella yet?” Mason laughed, “Not that I know of.” Tegan chuckled as well, popping her head in a few compartments, delaying them each time as they exchanged greetings and Mason asked a myriad of questions about everyone’s holidays and their classes for the term and weren’t they so looking forward to the feast this year, he was starving. By the time they managed to find a nearly empty compartment it was nearly time for the trolley to be around. Tegan slid the door open, commenting, “I cannot believe how long that took. You were awfully curious about Margaret’s vacation.” Mason shrugged, “No harm done, she was plenty eager to chat about it.” It was at this moment that they realized the compartment already had an occupant, and they had come barging in. Tegan was quick to apologize, “Oh, sorry to stamp right in. Do you mind if we sit here?”

"Oh, I'll miss you so much sweetie..." the elder woman doted as she stroked a had through an annoyed Jaxon's hair. Shrinking away from his koshers touch and looking at the woman only to be met with a somber look, the male sighed. "Mother, I'll be fine. Just like every other year." His tone was rather factual and a little harsh as if scolding her for acting such a way. His father stood there silently at his mother's side, simply looking over his two children. Jax glanced toward his sister who said nothing and looked at no one. Which wasn't really a surprise to him. Ruffling his vibrant red hair -which his mother had flattened with all her petting- he made a motion toward the train. "We should go."
To be honest, they were quite early. One of the first few to arrive actually. Which was fine it meant they got to pick where to sit. His mother could only manage a sigh and a nod as she kisses the top of her sons head. To the girl she said nor did anything. She didn't even acknowledge the girl's existence. Well, it wasn't her child really, so why should she right? The father on the other hand offered a hand shake to Jax and simply pat the girl atop her head. It was a bit awkward but it was brief so nothing to worry about.
Taking up the heavier of the bags, Jax left his sister to carry the lighter ones and lead the way onto the train. He knew, that she knew to follow him and stick close. Even if she saw friends, they were to sit in the same cart. So she simply kept her head down and followed along. Easily finding an empty cart they made themselves comfortable, Jax sitting across from the girl. "Look I know we've done this for three years already, but just to be sure. You know what is expected of you?" The girl simply nodded.
-------
Watching as a mother doted on her son, Ariella couldn't help the pang of jealousy that came from her. Sure these people treated her horribly, but they were still her family. The only one she had since she was taken from her real mother. To have a mother be upset over her leaving, to shower her in hugs and kisses. It would be nice. But she couldn't even get a look, a goodbye or an acknowledgement let alone a hug. It was fine though she was used to this. Being ignored at home. Jax was really the only one who talked to her and it was mostly because he HAD to.
As Jaxon mentioned boarding the train, Ari suddenly felt excitement. Finally, they were leaving. Finally she wouldn't be invisible and would be around people who wanted to be around her. It would be nice. With an awkward pat from her father she boarded the train with her brother. It would be awhile before they left the station so they would get comfortable. Of course routinely her brother had asked if she remembered what she was supposed to do and say. Of course she did. It was like this every year.
Ariella was to lie about herself. She wasn't to tell a soul that she is actually a half blood due to an affair with a squib -as her family called it. She was to act as though she was born and raised a pure blood, though she felt it was obvious she wasn't. She liked to think she was nothing like those snooty elitists. Her brother included. But she would live this lie. Why? Because she knew if she didn't her family would probably stop her from going to Hogwarts all together and send her away to some other magical school probably far away... and she already had friends at Hogwarts. That was definitely not something she wanted.
-------
As the time slowly passed, Ari had been people watching out of the window, while Jaxon had been busy studying. Unfortunately not all of the classes he chose came easy to him, so extra studying whenever he could was necessary. At least to him it was.
The younger girl sat up in her seat as the whistle sounded. It was a delightful noise as it meant soon they would be going. Not surprisingly no one had come to join their compartment. Ari found most people avoided Jax save for a few from his house that were his friends. She figured they were late though, as they seemed to be every year. She was sort of grateful for that though. That meant there was a chance someone else would come sit with them. Maybe JT... even though he didn't like Jax either... but he was Ari's friend, so maybe. She could hope.
Awhile more of people watching and soon two people entered chattering away. Ari had seen them around the school before, but she knew Jax knew them better. After all they were in his year.
Of course, Jaxon did recognize them. Tegan was in most if not all of his classes. So he often saw her. And the loud one seemed to tag along with her whenever he could. He often asked questions and that was rather annoying. Especially since Jax never likes sharing much. Ari on the other hand thinks it's amusing how annoyed her brother gets when Mason is around. Even if she herself is too shy to start a conversation with the guy, she would answer anything he asked... well except when she wasn't allowed to.
As Tegan asked if they could sit there Ari smiled and started to nod. Though she stopped as she looked at her brother who had looked up as if he was inspecting the two. The faux red head simply shrugged, "May as well. I'm sure most of the cars are full by now." Ari frowned a little at his response but looked at the two, "He's studying so he's a bit moody. " Jaxon shot his sister a look and she knew she'd get in trouble later, but she didn't care. She wanted them to sit here so her brothers friends wouldn't. Then maybe JT and Kaylynn could join them.

Kaylynn took a breath and looked over her journal one last time as her and her family made their way towards the train. Normally they would want to be one of the first people here, but this year she had a hard time packing her belongings. She blamed her brother for it, since he was still trying to get her not to go to school. But after a long time she finally got her things together, much to Brenden’s dismay.
“Are you sure you have everything Kaylynn? You seemed pretty unprepared today.” Marith, Kaylynn’s mother said keeping her head high as she talked to her daughter. Kaylynn gave a nod, holding her luggage and pushing the cart towards the train.
“Yes, mother I have everything. You don’t have to worry.” She mumbled before looking to her brother with a slight frown. He nearly rolled his eyes, giving a snear worse than a goblin trying to smile.
“Very well. Have a good year at school, my dears. And Brenden, please do try and keep your head in the game. Your marks have been falling every year.” Marith commented before giving a wave and heading back the way she came. In other people’s eyes, that would have seemed rude, but in honesty
Kaylynn found it to be a relief. Her mother was a proud one, she was proud of her heritage, her family. It made her head swell, but in all matter of being she was the nicest of her family. Her father didn’t even talk to her, he patted her brother on the back mumbling some gibberish that really didn’t matter to her before leaving after there mother.
Stay out of the way this year Kaylynn. “ Brenden hissed before walking onto the train, but not before bumping into her sending her books to the ground. He laughed and loudly finding a few of his buddies and getting on the train.
Retrieving her books and keeping her eyes down on the ground she hurried onto the already packed train. First graders piled in each of the corridors talking about being sorted, and sixth graders were fretting about the exams. She knew most of them, seeing as she too was in the sixth grade but she didn’t really talk to them all that much. Being one herself she had already decided what she wanted to pursue so she wasn’t to worried. Things would go smoothly if she kept her head in the game this year. She had friends, and if not there was always her apparently annoying habit talking to the invisible creatures of the forest. No matter, most of the time they were more interesting then the people in the school.
“No to find a place to sit.” Kaylynn mumbled to herself, clutching the book to her chest looking around she opened one of the compartments that she assumed would be empty but to her astoundment it was pretty full, but with people she knew pretty well. She gave a slight wave to them, in an awkward, friendly way.
I thought I saw Tegan leading some first years down the right path.” She said to break the silence that seemed to fall down around them. She paused biting the bottom of her lip before moving out of the way for a few students trying to get past her.
“Do you mind if I sit with you guys? Had a bit of trouble getting packed last night and this morning. So I was running a bit late...Most of the cars are filled up already.” She asked hoping that they wouldn’t mind. If they did, she could find a place to sit but Ari was here and she liked the girl. She was interesting to talk to, same with Tegan. Jax was pretty intimidating but she didn’t mind him all that much. Execpt he was a Slitherin and that normally meant she wasn’t welcome but she was good at ignoring people. One of the main protective spells she had learned with living in a house filled with annoying pepple.

“Stay safe, okay?”
“Okay.”
“Don’t make any enemies…again.”
“Alright.”
“And stay on top of your studies!”
“Obviously.” J.T retorted, apparently disgusted that his mother had to even think about telling him that. What else is he going to do? Mingle with ladies? As if. Although his answer was cold and depraved of any emotion, his mother smiled and kissed him lovingly on the forehead. He made no motion to show how much he hated the physical contact, instead just stood there staring at her blankly when she stepped back. With a sigh Jeong-Tae’s mother turned to Arabella and smiled, a single tear escaping from her eyes.
“I know your father really is happy you’re still in Hogwarts. It must be hard for him…” J.T’s father intercepted yet another emotional ending by giving Arabella a warm hug, in which she returned it with a smile and light laugh.
“But at least he knows it is for the best? Come on, you two need to hurry up. I’m afraid we’ve held you both up long enough.”
Arabella contained her smile and excitement for the time being. No words coming to mind as she wanted to just bolt for the Hogwarts Express. She wanted to leave here. To go back to school. It was so much better than this Muggle infested world…in that instant she caught herself almost thinking like a one of those snakes, shaking her head to herself fearing that they might have gotten to her. Just a little bit…only a little. As she opened her mouth to speak, J.T grabbed her by the arm and started to walk off. He knew better than to turn his back on his cousin when he wanted to keep her in his sights without literally holding on to her. God knows who she’ll turn into.
“J.T!” she exclaimed, pretending to be surprised by his actions but in actuality very happy. “You don’t have to be so rude.”
He said nothing as he continued to drag her and his luggage alongside him, Arabella carrying her own weight and his young, short-eared owl. Behind them his parents stood there happily watching them depart, not thinking twice of any horrible incident that could happen. When they were finally out of sight and boarding the Hogwarts Express, Arabella pulled free from J.T and sighed dramatically.
“You were particularly eager to run off this time.”
Jeong-Tae looked at her casually and shrugged, gesturing for Aera to hand him his owl. She looked at the poor creature lovingly, then handed it over almost reluctantly.
“When will you name her?”
“When she’s proven to be a decent owl.”
Aera couldn’t help but look at her cousin like he was an idiot. It was clear as day that he was hell of a lot smarter compared to her, but in that moment…that just seemed like a silly thing to say. So for now, his pet owl name Owl, gripped her talons tightly around the cage and looked up at J.T almost pleadingly to be set free. He ignored her and continued walking through the train trying to find a compartment void of people. Forgetting about Aera and her little habit of shifting herself, he turned around in the crowd and saw that she was gone. Or at least not her. His flat lined lips dropped into a frown when he realized that she was probably already off on her own way then rolled his eyes to continue his search. It wasn’t long until he realized that every compartment had someone –actually several people-, so he figured that since it is a last resort…he will go on a hunt for someone he knew. Perhaps Ari or Kaylynn. After all, they are in the same house and those are the only two that he didn’t seem to be utterly repelled by. Although one had that brother Jax of hers. He couldn’t quite remember which one of the girls was related to him since it wasn’t in his best interest to really focus on another person, but J.T would be lying if he said that he like Jax.
Finally after a couple of awkward minutes searching through places, J.T spotted several people he knew. Luckily they were all thrown together, that way he wouldn’t have to go through a debate in his head as to who he tolerated over the other and what not. This just made it simple. Unfortunately the place seemed pretty much compacted together, and as he approached the entrance, a small kid rushed passed him and ran into his side. He scowled as he watched the boy bolt into the crowd of acquaintances, smiled wildly at them, then proceeded to jump happily onto Tegan’s lap. Through the shaggy haired boy’s laughter you could make out the words “Tegan! How…are you?” Perplexed for only moments, J.T tilted his head watching the scene unfold. The kid then turned to Mason and nodded his head in that cocky superior way. “Yo what’s up?” As he said this, the hair then turned black and grew in length, the skin color lightening and the apparent change of gender.
Of course it was Arabella…
Feeling pathetic that he was actually fooled by Aera again, J.T entered quietly but remained at the door. He didn’t feel like getting close to anyone and it would be super agonizing to be close to them anyways. If he had to, Jeong-Tae would stand the entire trip to Hogwarts. Seemed like Arabella would remain on Tegan’s lap, though, she was smart enough to make her frame a little smaller as to not give too much discomfort to her friend. Ignoring everyone he looked down to his owl, where he noticed the birdcage door was open. Probably due to Aera when she ran into his side, although he was happy to see Owl was loyally staying where she should be. To make some room, J.T took his owl out of her cage and allowed her to rest on his shoulder then put her cell out in the train’s hall. If it was to be picked up then whatever. He didn’t exactly care.
On the other hand, Aera seemed a little irritated when she noticed Jax was here as well. She didn't exactly like him, probably one of the few things she could agree on with Jeong. Oh well, she'd just ignored him anyways unless he decided to make a direct confrontation. For now, Aera was happy that she managed to find a place to sit -sort of- with people other than of her own house.

Tegan was relieved when Jax granted them permission to sit down. Although, she felt a bit like he had examined their worth when he looked up, appraising them like animals. Weird. With a grin and friendly wave to Ariella, she dropped down next to Jax, sighing, “Thanks.” Normally, this was not the seat Tegan would have jumped straight towards; however, it was better for her to sit next to Jax than the let Mason happen into the seat and get them tossed out of the compartment. That was also the reason she claimed the seat before Mason could even move, to keep him out of it. From what Tegan knew, the boys did not interact all too often, but she had a guess that Jax did not like Mason very well. Thus, it was in everyone’s best interest if she acted as a human barrier.
Mason threw himself into the seat next to Ariella, propping his feet across the aisle between Tegan and Jax. Tegan added, responding to Jax’ comment, “Hello, Jax. The train is absolutely full this year. Though, I suppose it just seems full when one is searching for a compartment after having a late start.”
Mason told Ari, “Studying makes Tegan crabby too, Ari.” He snorted as Tegan frowned, “Kidding, kidding. Tegan hasn’t got a crabby bone in her body.” Tegan muttered under her breath, examining a scuff on her sneakers, “Tegan does not have a crabby bone in her body, not ‘hasn’t got,’ honestly.” Mason pressed on, he surely heard her, but was choosing in this moment to act as if he hadn’t. Mason asked Ari, moving his legs from Tegan’s bench so that he could turn to face her, “How were your holidays anyway? Did you meet any good ghosts?” Tegan recalled Mason chatting once last year about a girl who talked to the ghosts, she had never associated it with Ari, who she only knew because Mason somehow knew the girl’s name. And Tegan remembered somewhere in her brain that Ari was Jax’ little sister, which made sense since the two were sitting together in an otherwise odd relationship. Ari looked young and sweet, an unlikely person to befriend Jax who was rather intense. Hopefully Jax would not be offended by Mason chatting up his sister, if only because then Jax didn’t have to talk to Mason as much.
Just as Tegan was debating about asking what Jax was studying so early in the term, the compartment door slid open again. Tegan expected Aera to be the one opening the door, so she was surprised to see Kaylynn. Pleasantly surprised, she supposed. Kaylynn was a fellow sixth year and she was relatively nice. Tegan occasionally had class with her over the years, Tegan was pretty sure she spent an even amount of classes with each house, as she saw about as much of Mason as she did of Arabella. So it made sense that she saw Kaylynn about a quarter of the time in classes. Although, that might change now considering everyone picked different NEWTs, so the dynamics would shift more drastically this year than they ever had before. As if Tegan didn’t have enough to worry about, she had to think about people not being in class who usually were or whatever other changes came into place. Well, Tegan was fairly certain she would be fine regardless of how the timetables changed for this term.
It was Mason who commented after Kaylynn’s wave. He grinned, turning a full 180 degrees to face their new addition. Mason chirped, “Yup! That was her. Tegan just can’t help herself. I guess it’ll be great when she’s a big, bad healer. Though you might exhaust yourself trying to help everyone in St. Mungo’s at once, Tegan.” Tegan shrugged at him before she decided that Kaylynn was welcome for the entire compartment, though she doubted anyone would object. Kaylynn was a sweet as pie, so it seemed unlikely that anyone could hate her. Though, Tegan supposed she was a little strange. She talked to herself, or so Tegan had heard in the rumors swirling around the common room. Although, Mason liked her plenty, so Tegan took that as a positive testament to her character. Mason was a good judge of character, probably because he asked so many questions that morally unsound people could not get by his barrage of nosiness. Tegan told Kaylynn, “Please, join us. I am sure everyone will be glad for your company.” She gestured at the seats next to herself or Mason, figuring Kaylynn would take care of herself in choosing a seat.
Meanwhile, Mason queried, “How were your holidays, Kaylynn? Exciting?”
Tegan turned towards the door of the compartment, which was still hanging open from Kaylynn’s entrance. She had heard a commotion and just as she turned to look for the source, something (in hindsight, someone) landed heavily in her lap- she only had a split second of reflexes to get her arms out of the way of the incoming body. Tegan made a noise somewhere between a grunt and a shriek in surprise.
It was a boy. A younger one. A fourth year, maximum. With his hair all a mess around his head, Tegan was not even sure what sort of style he was going for with that look. Teenage boys made little sense to Tegan for a majority of the time.
Then the boy asked how she was. And he knew her name. Tegan was positive she had never met this boy before. She looked at the boy, her brows knitting together in confusion. Definitely not. Ever. Tegan was loathe to forget someone, but she was positive that this was a stranger to her. The boy greeted Mason as well, looking sassy and cocky. Pretty brave for a fourth year.
Just then, everything fell into place. As soon as the boy’s hair started changing colors, Tegan caught on, bursting out laughing. Everything fit well then. The laughter, jumping into Tegan’s lap so suddenly, teasing Mason. Much better than Tegan’s previous confusion.
Tegan laughed, “You scared me so much, Aera! I was past confusion when you appeared as that boy! You are horrible.” Tegan managed to awkwardly hug Arabella, though it was a bit odd and uncomfortable with the girl perched in her lap. "How are /you/?"

Mason was confused. He did not like being confused. He did not spend much of his life in a state of confusion because he could generally keep track of all of the things going on near him. That was his talent. But this was confusing. There had been no warning. Someone ran in and accosted Tegan, landing in her lap. Then the stranger was all nodding and cocky boy behavior. Only a moment before Aera morphed back into her standard appearance did Mason realize that it was Arabella in disguise. He only managed a clipped, “Hello, Arabella,” before Tegan burst out laughing, realizing the trick herself. Mason chuckled as well, over the holidays he had forgotten how clever Aera could be about her appearance when she wanted to be.
Still, something was still wrong. It was the doorway. Mason turned, Jeong-Tae was standing there, looking a bit confused about whether or not he should sit down. Mason glanced at Tegan, she was still reuniting with Aera, all laughs. She had not even seen the other boy at the door, Aera was too distracting.
Mason offered, in a startlingly accurate, though a bit exaggerated, imitation of Tegan’s measured accent, “If Tegan were paying attention, I’m sure she would say: Please, take a seat in our lovely compartment. We are ever so delighted to have your company.” Switching back to his own voice, Mason continued, “How were your holidays? Did you just get that new owl? What’s its name? Did you train it to sit on your shoulder like that?” He wasn’t really sure if he would get any answers out of the boy, but that was not going to stop him from asking the questions.

As Tegan responded to Jax's comment about the train being full, the male only nodded. While it was true that the longer you waited the harder it was to find an empty compartment, the young man also thought there was an annoying amount of first years this year. Though he supposed it wasn't that unusual. Ever since the last war, Hogwarts was more famous than ever. He would think there would be more concerned parents however. Or maybe they just all assumed that meant their child would go on to greater things. To be honest, Jaxon though his parents would send him to a different academy. One more suited for him. Of course that meant sending his sister where ever too. For that, Hogwarts probably was best suited.
When Mason chimed in talking to Ari, Jax only rolled his eyes and looked back to his book on plants. While he had to work at both Potions and Herbology, Herbology was definitely his weakest subject. He thought getting a head start would be helpful, so he wouldn't have to work AS hard on two subjects. Ari ignored her brother's rudeness and laughed lightly at Mason's joke about Tegan getting cranky when studying too. It was hard to picture the old girl as crabby. Ever. Ari felt that even if someone were to make Tegan mad, she'd handle it with a sort of grace. Maybe it was just because she was such a nice person. When Mason asked about Ari's holiday though, and ghosts, her eyes instantly lit up and the usually shy girl smiled, sitting up a bit more straight.
"Oh! I met the most delightful fellow while on holiday with the family." Of course by fellow she meant, ghost. Ariella didn't talk to the living most times when she was with her family... because well... she wasn't allowed to. "He was an inn keep, cursed for refusing service to a supicious fellow. But he really was delightful to talk to!" Before Ariella could continue on with her story, the door slid open again and Kaylynn walked in. The smile remained on Ari's face. It was refreshing to see the quiet girl. Especially since they were from the same house. As Tegan invited the girl to sit Ari piped up, "Yeah, have a seat Kaylynn!"
At this new addition Jax simply shifted in his seat, though he remained quiet about the whole thing. Of course then Mason spoke up - no surprise - and Jaxon couldn't help but grimmace a bit, though he not once looked up from his book. At least things were settling again, and he could simply go back to studying. Of course, then the door slid open yet again and an odd boy none of them seemed to know came bounding in as loud as ever making conversation. Followed by J.T. As Aera was soon discovered, Jax sighed annoyed and closed his book in a slamming manner. "Well, isn't this just a party now? I hardly thought allowing you to sit here would gain so much attention." Though he looked at neither Tegan nor Mason, it was obvious the comment was made toward them, since they had been the first to join the two siblings in sitting.
Ari frowned at this remark but said nothing. Though she was friends with Kaylynn and J.T. - and was excited to see both - this many people often made her clam up as the shyness took over. She was certain others were much more interesting than anything she might have to say. Well, that was how it was at home anyway, so that was how she assumed it was every where else. Maybe that's why she enjoyed the ghosts. The girl simply sat quietly, glancing toward her brother for a moment, the look of pure annoyance caused her to look away though. She swore his intimidating look and aurora were the reason most people avoided him. Though it was also his attitude... But you'd have to even approach him to discover he was just as unpleasant as he looked.
Jaxon simply looked out the window, attempting to drown out the idiots - as he would call most of them - around him. He was cursing himself for not simply dragging Ariella to a Slytherin cabin and sitting there instead of being joined by the likes of this motley crew. Tegan he didn't mind so much, since they were in a lot of subjects together so far. He wouldn't be surprised if they were again. And though he didn't get along with the guy he usually didn't mind J.T. At least not in moments like this where he was simply being quiet. That was also why he liked Kaylynn as well, though he'd really not go out of his way to befriend any of these people.

Kaylynn couldn’t help but be relieved when she was offered to take a seat. She wouldn’t say it out loud but the thought of having to wade through the bodies that seemed to loom in the train hallways made her stomach flip. For all she knew she could bump into her brother, and he had already made it very clear that he wasn’t going to be nice if he even got a glimpse of her. Taking her seat next to Mason she nodded her head with a smile. “Thank you. It’s a jungle out there, the freshmen are lucky to have someone like Tegan out to help them.” She complimented to Tegan looking to the others in the cabin.
At Mason’s question she couldn’t help but nod a little. It was half true, the beginning of it all she was able to visit some distant relatives. That in itself was a treat because her brother was far away and so was her father, the second good part of that she had the chance to see new creatures that she hadn’t yet seen before. And she had seen a lot. At the thought she flipped her book to the first few sketches she had made during that time. There was a number of wrackspurts, which kinda resembled little balls of light. Personally she thought they looked like very small fairies, perhaps even pixies. They didn’t seem to post much of a risk but they had found ways to keep out of the eye sight of many and like normal cause havoc if wanted too. “I got to see a few new creatures for my journal at a relative high in the Scottish wild lands. I also saw a heard of Thestral, even a small foul. If you could call it a foul, considering they are dead in a way.” Kaylyn mumbled to herself rubbing the bottom of her chin deep in thought, in all honesty she knew they weren’t paying attention to her anymore but she was still yammering a little to herself.
It got her mind off the last month before school, when she was stuck in her house with a group of her brothers friends. Doing things she couldn’t even fathom. Reading dark magic, and knowing her brother preforming them. Maybe not himself personally sense it was against the law for a young wizard to preform magic if you weren’t graduated school but he had friends who had recently graduated and they dabbled in magic that should be kept locked up in a closet.
Kaylynn’s mind and thoughts were caught short when a sudden younger boy burst into the room, she wasn’t sure what to expect but she did jump—but only slightly. She was usually used to things like this, but being caught in her own thoughts-like normal, she was caught off guard. When the boy suddenly turned into a girl she shook her head. The power it took to do something like that, it baffled her, and caused a bit of envy. Being able to be anything you wanted with just a little change of appearance and magic. It was uncanny, unfathomable. It was too bad she didn’t have that kind of power in the transformation like Areabelle.
Really, with all the people know in the little cabin Kaylynn was starting to feel claustrophobic but she wasn’t going to leave. That would be rude. And while they all seemed to be at peace she knew there was tension between a few of them. Heck, she felt awkward around Jaxon, and J.T but still seemed to think he was interesting. In all honesty she didn’t know how she felt though and she wasn’t going to think about it because if she did her head would hurt and her schooling wasn’t even done yet—or even started.
“Ghosts do make great company.” Kaylynn said looking at Ari who told her about the ghost she had met. Personally she had many interesting conversations with ghosts herself, which was one of the reasons she could get along with Ari. “They have fascinating stories to tell, and have all the time in the world. The hardest is trying to get away when you have to do stuff, since many of them are so lonely.” She said kind of sadly.
Soon the train started to move and Kaylynn couldn’t help but look at the owl on J.T’s shoulder. A beautiful bird who perched so loyally on him. “That’s a beautiful bird, have you named the girl yet? It must have taken some time for her to get used to sitting on your shoulder.” She explained holding a hand out to the bird before taking it away unsure if she was even allowed to do that kind of thing with his owl. Sighing she, she went back to her journal, lifting a small charm she had placed it so she could look at old pages. It was no large charm, just one that would allow her to use the same book for however long she wanted, having an unlimited amount of space for notes and sketches. Also allowed her to keep her old stuff a secret from prying eyes if need be.

Sorry, writers block
Aera returned the hug although it was easier for her to manage than Tegan. Smiling wildly in spite of the sudden urge to outstretch her fist into Jax’s face just for the hell of it (and for his ‘party’ comment), Aera shrugged in response to her friend.
“I’m gooood.” She emphasized her words dramatically as she spoke…whether she did this to annoy someone or not was a little unclear, although Jeong stood in the background silently observing.
When Mason spoke up he had caught the attention of the male cousin, who, in return, turned his head to face the boy simultaneously with Owl. He remained quiet and merely blinked in response even through all of his attempts at prying Jeong-Tae’s mouth open with questions. J.T didn’t like Mason. He was loud. And didn’t know personal boundaries. So to avoid getting in a pointless argument (that he felt certain he would win) J.T looked back up and simply stared out the window. Aera got quiet as well but only for a second before she was thrown off by his sudden willingness to talk. It seemed like he was making a self-note on Kaylynn’s comment about ghosts being good company.
“You should never make friends with the ghosts. Honestly you are probably doing them more harm than you realize.” He paused for a moment and muttered under his breath, although with how he was looking at Owl and the way she returned his steady gaze, it seemed like he was speaking to her. “Feeling nothing as you are nothing is painful when given the love of everything.” Jeong scratched Owl head only semi affectionately before returning his sights towards his cousin, who he noticed grimaced at his words. “Even if you can’t feel it.”
Aera narrowed her eyes at his last comment, something seriously off with those words coming from his mouth. What is he talking about? And seriously, don’t tell her she’s doing harm to the ghosts!
‘He’s such a subtle ass…’ thought Aera, as she hoped Jeong did not offend Ari to any degree, although she knew he was saying this because of what Kaylynn had said. After all, he had just basically said that she was only hurting the few things she could really find comfort in. Not exactly the best wake up call. A little funny when she thought of the irony…still, it was Ari, and Arabella likes her. She was a good kid and already gets enough crap from her brother. Didn't need J.T ruining things too.
The forgivable jerk of the train caught Arabella off guard as it began to move, the scenery soon to change once it actually departs from the station. She hadn’t even heard Kaylynn’s comment concerning Owl and so Aera was pretty confused when Jeong sat on the small space of flooring between them all and faced Kay. It was sort of a weird place to be but he didn’t seem to mind. Perhaps it was better than standing and his stubborn self finally came to terms that he wouldn’t want to stand the entire trip to Hogwarts. Especially with an owl on his shoulder…or head. She liked to perch herself on his head often.
“She has no name yet.”
That was all he said, though, he didn’t move to indicate that the ‘conversation’ was over. Again, he was just being his odd self, then reached his arm out where Owl understood that she was to leave his shoulder. When she hopped down and onto his outstretched forearm, J.T gestured for Owl to go to Kaylynn. Hesitation took hold of the young bird before she finally deemed the other human safe, then flapped her wings a few times and found herself resting on Kaylynn’s lap. Immediately the short eared owl fluffed her feathers up a little to show she was comfortable and turned her head all the way around to stare at Kaylynn.
“See? I did not have to train her to be on my shoulder. Owl just enjoys people.”
When he was done speaking Owl had started to eye the journal curiously, taking a liking to the book. A few small, awkward steps later, Owl got closer to Kaylynn’s journal in attempts to snatch it.
“Careful though. She likes to take small things…and has a love for charmed items.” Jeong pointed to his neck as to indicate the shamrock necklace that dangled from Owl’s neck by a thin chain, and she spun her head around to glare him down. That necklace of hers was a gift from Jeong-Tae’s mother when he first got Owl, allowing her to understand what a human is saying as though she spoke the language. It applies to the bird and no one else, so it isn’t like her and Jeong can actually communicate with one another.
“You can go ahead and talk to her. She can’t actually respond to you but she’ll understand what you’re saying.” This was Arabella, who was getting highly uncomfortable with Jeong-Tae being so chatty. She knew he was probably uncomfortable with it too, so she decided to speak up before J.T went insane by actually being social.
Arabella watched J.T get up and head back towards the window like compartment door (not even bothering to listen to anyone’s remarks on Owl), where he slipped through and exited the crowd. Since the train was moving that would mean the corridors were probably a little clearer now. He didn’t wander off though, just stood there in front of the window across from the compartment everyone seemed to huddle in. The commotion of anxiety and excitement had echoed through Hogwart’s Express, mostly from first years, and it set the boy in a state of daydreaming as he remembered his first year here. That disaster ended up being his happiest memory and the only thing he thought of as he turned his back from the others and looked onwards at the sloppy painting beneath him, canvas growing an array of familiar sights in the distance as they trudged forwards for yet another magical year at school.
Aera thought that was enough of anything having to do with her cousin so she changed the subject, certain that there could be something to actually talk about when it came to schedules.
“So everyone knows what courses they have this year?”

Mason nodded, intrigued by this ghost story. Well, not a ghost story in the traditional sense, but a story about a ghost. What an interesting tale! Mason almost wished he had been along to hear about this tale himself. He wondered if the person who cursed the ghost was ever identified. Perhaps he was one of those Death Eaters who killed people before the Battle of Hogwarts. It seemed very likely. According to Mason’s studies, those blokes had run around rather freely before Voldemort’s death. It was all rather interesting. Although Mason had to admit that he was somewhat relieved that he had not been alive for all of that action. It certainly would have been exciting, but there would have been a constant risk of death when simply trying to attend classes. Mason had no idea how all of those kids managed to finish a single year of school when Voldemort was popping up every year threatening students’ lives. Mason had a hard enough time focusing on some of his classes as it was, imagine having that kind of distraction- not to mention having his life on the line- and trying to study for exams. Horrendous.
Well, regardless of the man’s actual story, Mason did not get to hear the rest of it because the department descended into some chaos. Well, most of the reason Mason didn’t get to hear the end of the story was that Ari cut herself off to greet Kaylynn. It made sense if they were friends. They were very alike in their habits. Or from what Mason had seen of the pair of them.
Mason nodded intently while Kaylynn spoke, telling Arianna as he listened, “Seems like she also had an instructive summer. You’ve both been rather successful at finding new things. All I managed was boring in comparison. Not to say it wasn’t exciting. Won a game of Quidditch against my uncle.” Kaylynn’s voice seemed to trail off as she ended her mention of thestrals and the like. She probably thought he wasn’t listening because he was talking. People seemed to generally think that when he talked and listened at the same time. Apparently other people were not good at managing this. Well, he hadn’t looked away from Kaylynn, so he had thought it had been rather obvious that he was listening. Mason exclaimed, “That’s fantastic! But I thought you could only see those if you’ve seen someone die. Rough if you think about it. They’re meant to be what pulls the carriages right? I asked Professor Longbottom and he said it was a trip the year after the Battle of Hogwarts and all of the students could see them. Can you imagine what a shock that would have been for all of them?”
Jax seemed to grow angrier as more people arrived. Especially after Arabella’s loud entrance, which was probably a little abrasive for those who weren’t used to her exuberant ways. Well that and he had been sitting in silence with this sister before Tegan and Mason arrived. However, they could hardly be to blame because the rest of the train was full and everyone was trying to fit into this compartment. Mason glanced over at the group across the compartment from him. Jax seemed angry. His book was closed and he looked like he might bite someone. Tegan looked rather upset. If Mason could guess, he would say she was struggling to decide if that comment was intended to tell her to leave. And if it was, would it be horribly rude to stay or should she just get up with Aera in tow and run away before causing more trouble. Mason told Jax, “There’s no need to be rude, mate. You can’t blame us that the train is full.” He glanced at Tegan, ensuring that she heard that she wasn’t being an inconvenience. She still looked a bit frustrated, but not like she was going to walk away. What would she do without Mason here to ensure her that she was not the problem?
Tegan would probably just preoccupy herself with Aera and move back into a happier place. And forget all about that little rude outburst from Jaxon.
Mason was, admittedly, a bit miffed when Jeong-Tae completely avoided his questions. Entirely. He just looked at Mason, simultaneously with that owl of his (which was actually a bit creepy in itself), and ignored him. Well, it was as to be expected. Mason rolled his eyes at the boy’s silence.
However, the guy decided to pipe up and talk to other people instead. How rude. Honestly, Mason had started talking to him first. He should have gotten and answer to at least one of this questions. Not to mention that his comments were rather strange and cryptic. Weird. Mason huffed, “Honestly? If you were a ghost you wouldn’t want people ignoring you for all of eternity. And you can’t just tell people how to live their lives.” He barely knew Ari, but he’d always thought she was interesting and nice and he didn’t want this guy, though he was Aera’s cousin, to be so rude and dash this girl’s passion of talking to ghosts. So it had been absolutely necessary for Mason to jump in in Ari’s defense. He glanced at Ari, “He just doesn’t understand friendliness, I’m sure.”
---
Tegan raised an eyebrow slightly at Aera when she claimed she was ‘goooood.’ What was that all about? Was she so good that she needed a few extra seconds of o’s or was she trying to achieve some sort of different meaning by pronouncing it differently. Still, Tegan grinned, glad to finally see Aera again after the holiday. She enjoyed her time off, but it was difficult to see none of her friends for the span of the holiday. Not to mention she usually went to visit her Muggle relatives and they inevitably asked her about school and she had to cram in knowledge of Muggle education each year before she visited. Seeing her Muggle friends was worse because they knew a lot about the studies she was meant to be doing in school and Tegan only knew about Charms and she had no idea what this business with Calculus was. She regretted the change in their relationships, but she was endlessly glad to be at Hogwarts with her wizarding friends now.
While Mason seemed to feel obligated to jump at everyone’s defense, Tegan was mostly observing the goings on. It wasn’t until the discussion of the owl began that Tegan felt the need to give her input again. She asked, her question directed at Aera who might actually answer her, “Is the necklace enchanted? Did your mother enchant it? Do you know what spell she used? That seems rather complex, but perhaps I just have not reached that point in my studies yet.”
In the time it had taken Tegan to ask a rather Mason-like series of questions, Jeong-Tae had disappeared, leaving his owl behind. How strange. Though Jeong-Tae was hardly a friendly fellow, so she supposed it made sense that he would leave suddenly. It was still strange that he hadn’t taken the seat next to her and Aera, who was still sitting in her lap.
Aera seemed to notice the empty space left by her cousin as well, for she soon changed the topic. Mason answered first, “Yeah, loads of classes. But no boring ones anymore.” He counted off on his fingers, ensuring that he listed each class, “I’ve got History of Magic, Study of Ancient Runes, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Muggle Studies, and Transfiguration. I don’t really think I need Defense Against the Dark Arts, but I like it and I guess the skills’ll be useful if I ever get up to any mischief while I’m researching.” Tegan replied, “Plus you’ll get to be in it with me- though I’m absolutely dreading it. And you’re definitely taking Transfiguration with us for a NEWT right, Aera?” Mason added, “Yeah, and what about Defense Against the Dark Arts? You didn’t really say at the end of term what you were planning to take.” He glanced around the compartment, “And the rest of you? Arianna, you get to add electives this year, right? What’d you pick?”

Ariella enjoyed as Kaylynn shared about her summer adventures as well. The shy girl always thought they both had a lot in common, unfortunately neither of them talked very much for them to become super close friends or anything, but she knew they could be. It didn't help that Arianna was the youngest out of all of them. She was merely a third year, as opposed to her brother and his classmates, who were all sixth years this year. To be honest, if Kaylynn and J.T. weren't in the same house as her, she wasn't sure she'd really be friends with any of these particular people.
It wasn't that they weren't likeable, Ariella liked all of them. However, she didn't talk much outside of class or when she was spoken to, and her brother was obviously not fond of most of the people present. Not that she thought he was fond of anyone really. Well, aside of his own friends - whom Ari disliked because they were mean to her. Deciding she was dwelling on the topic long enough, she came out of her own thoughts and back into the conversation. Mason was explaining his summer, and explaining how it was quite exciting that Kaylynn had seen some beasts.
Then her brother became rude once more. Looking around Ari supposed the compartment got crowded rather quickly after Tegan and Mason arrived, but that was hardly their fault. They had friends, just as Jax did and naturally they would want to sit together. Not to mention the train was indeed full. As Mason stuck up for Tegan who seemed a bit worried on what to do, Ariella smiled. Well that was good. Jax on the other hand scowled in annoyance. Thankfully he didn't make a retort though, something Ari was dreading.
Unfortunately, J.T. had taken the liberty of interjecting on the subject of ghosts. Which made Ariella shrink back rather far. She considered J.T. a friend, since he was always nice enough to her... And she secretly enjoyed the fact that Jaxon couldn't stand him. So his opinion mattered to her, and unfortunately, his opinion was that she was a bother to ghosts. As Mason stood up for her she could only smile weakly and nod. She was glad when the attention was taken away from her momentarily, so she could simply sit quietly.
As the others continued to talk - with Jeong Tae disappearing - the subject of classes that they were taking came up. Then Mason particularly asked Ariella what she was taking, which didn't really surprise her. This was the first year she could add electives onto what she was studying. Sitting up again, she smiled "Ah, I'm going to take Care of Magical Creatures... Since I plan on being a Magizoologist. I've also decided on Divination since it seemed like fun." Pausing for a moment she added on, "I have too many classes for it this year, but next year I hope to take Ghoul Studies as an extra curricular... I would have loved to take it this year, but nine classes is a bit much..." With all the classes people in her year were required to take, extra curriculars would just be plain crazy.
Ari tried to recall the classes Mason named off that he was taking, finally chiming in, "Oh then you'll probably have Jaxon in your class for Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration." Jax simply looked at his sister, wondering why she seemed to be insisting on including him in their conversation. He didn't feel it was really any of their business on what he was taking this year, even if he was going to be in their classes.
Giving in, in defeat, the red headed male simply added on, "I'll also have Charms, potions, apparition lessons and herbology." As he spoke Ari smiled a little. It seemed Jax was relaxing a little even though there was such a crowd in their little compartment. He could be nice when he wanted to be, it just wasn't often. To be honest though, Jaxon had to wonder who out of this group would be in his classes. It seemed that Mason, and Tegan would be in at least two of his classes, and Aera in at least one.

Talking to ghosts was bothersome towards them? Kaylynn had to frown at that, thinking it quickly over in her head. She had never felt like a bother to any of the ghosts she had conversations with. While, even at Hogwarts they had ghosts who were always around and they seemed pretty pleased when the kids talked to them. In her house alone she had one ghost that came and left every so often. She could see how it could pain them to know that they weren’t alive anymore, but at the same time wouldn’t they be thrilled to know that a young person was taking time out of their real life to talk with them, the deceased and listen to the story of that was their lives?
“Personally I don’t think it’s that much of a bother, I mean if we are bothering them, they should say. Sometimes they need the company being stuck in purgatory for so long. It can’t be a bad thing to have some decent conversation right?” She retorted politely to J.T. “But I suppose you are right, it’s a shame really.” She said quietly looking to Ari to see how the random burst of negatively was affecting the third year. Kaylynn knew very well that the girl was shy, much like herself. Personally she liked the girl, and wished she had the guts to talk to people more than just when spoken to, but that was what happened when people thought you were a bit loony.
Caught off guard by J.T. sitting in front of her, while Owl suddenly perched on her lap she just stared for a moment before looking up at him. “Well, she is a very smart bird then.” She spoke holding a hand out to Owl, letting her get comfortable with her before light patting her head, the feathers soft to the touch. “That explains her interest in my Journal then.” Kaylynn spoke lightly moving the journal into her pocket as to not get ripped or shredded. It was her pride and joy, not to mention had every note, sketch from very part of her life. “I have placed a charm on the journal so it never runs out of pages. That way I don’t have a billion books that I have to carry with me.” She laughed lightly petting the owl again feeling a little more relaxed as Owl seemed to enjoy her company.
Course, she was more talking to herself when J.T. had left her with Owl , but she was used to talking to nothing so it didn’t bother her too much. “I wanted an owl for my pet when I started school,” she stared talking to Owl. “But mother thought a cat would be more suiting.” She trailed off sighing at the thought. Sadly for her, her brother got a hold of the poor kitten during the summer after her first year and it didn’t last being stuck in the house with him prowling at every corner, looking for live things to test spells on and such. She shuddered at the thought.
“Oh yes, you can only see thestrals If you have seen death.” She smiled sadly at him before not going into detail about that sort of thing. No one wanted to hear a sob story and frankly she didn’t want to talk about it.
“I’m focusing on my Care of Magical Creatures, but I am also in the Muggle Studies program and Study of Ancient Ruins.” She explained looking to Area who had asked the question. “I hope to go study Dragons sometime soon, they are fascinating.” She laughed lightly still placing most of her interest on Owl who sat in her lap. Amazed that the creature wasn’t trying to get away from her, and head back to her master. She was a well-trained bird, but why would she even think otherwise? J.T. was a brilliant wizard after all.

Total Writer's Block
Aera could only glare at Mason with her eyes beginning to morph into a deep, phoenix mixture of red and orange as he commented on her cousin. So badly she wanted to stand up and get in Mason’s face telling him that J.T isn’t as cold hearted as everyone thinks but she held her tongue. There was no point in defending him…he could manage himself and besides, what evidence does she have to prove that Jeong really isn’t that bad of a person? None. Why? He doesn’t show it to anyone else…so in spite of the fact that she wanted to slap Mason for his comment, she figured he did have all the right to say it. Still, his little remark had irritated the Korean enough to where she only caught a portion of what Teagan was saying about the classes, completely tuning her out when she asked about Owl’s charm. When she turned her attention back towards Teagan she had smiled broadly for some reason. Deciding to not sit on Teagan anymore, Aera now sat on the space right beside her friend and shrugged her shoulders at everyone’s questions.
“You know…can’t really say that I know what my classes are. J.T probably knows but I don’t think he really wants to be bothered right now.” Looking towards Kay who still had Owl comfortably resting on her lap, Aera reached over to pet the bird for a moment before sitting back in her spot. “I know I have Transfiguration and DADA but…that’s about it. Apparently for punishment they are thinking about putting me back in Magical Theory.”
Aera gave an annoyed sigh/groan when she said those two dreadful words. That was a basic beginner class…surely she was at least well above that level of wizardry. She went silent for a second as she started remembering all the classes she had –in vain- and then started to softly laugh a bit amused. Looking over towards Ari, Aera gave the girl a comforting smile to make up for her cousin’s little jerkiness earlier.
“You seem to have rubbed off on my cousin though. J.T said he was going to take some class relating to ghosts. That Ghoul studies or whatever that you mentioned…” pausing, she looked over at Jax for no apparent reason before returning her gaze towards Ari “He said the stories you tell are interesting.” Chuckling, Aera’s hair started to go a nice strawberry blonde. “I’m sure that if you ask him about anything he learned he’ll be more than happ---eh, willing to share the information with you.” He probably wouldn’t be exactly happy about being bothered, but it is in the name of education so it is tolerable.
Meantime while she spoke, Owl decided that she wanted to change humans. She couldn’t have chosen a worse person that Jax. Calmly leaving Kay the animal had made her way towards Jax’s lap, where she had immediately nestled herself comfortably in his presence. At this point Aera had burst into immense laughter, thinking it was almost adorable that such a badass had such the cuddly animal with him.
“Aw, Jaxy, this is a sign! Maybe you’ll make your first friend this year: Owl!”
Owl had turned her head to now look at Aera with those wide, dark eyes of hers, proceeding to fluff her feathers up like a pillow before bed.

Tegan was glad when the subject of ghosts settled itself. Everyone seemed to side with little Ari being perfectly justified in her behavior. Well, that was probably because she was. Tegan was sure that the ghosts would rather be entertained at least some of the time rather than being left alone for all eternity. As Mason had previously stated. Thankfully, Mason’s anger had not prompted a full on debate. Jeong-Tae had declined to comment any further in his defense and everyone else left in the compartment seemed to agree with him. So one disaster was averted. Tegan thought for a moment she felt Aera tense on her lap, like she might tell Mason off. But then the girl said nothing. So perhaps Tegan had been mistaken. Or maybe Aera had thought better of starting a fight with Mason. Regardless, they were all better off moving on from the topic of ghosts and the advantages and disadvantages of chatting with them.
Admittedly, Tegan was a bit relieved when Aera hopped off of her lap. Not that Tegan wasn’t accustomed to Arabella’s occasional lack of personal boundaries, but she was glad to stretch her legs a bit. Tegan tucked one leg under the other, making use of her new freedom.
Mason huffed, “I can’t believe you don’t know your schedule. Maybe you should write it down after asking Jeong-Tae?” Tegan nodded slightly, it seemed weird for Aera to not know her own schedule. A bit irresponsible actually. Surely, Arabella would get that under control by the time the term actually started and it would all work out. And she would be fine that in the end. So no harm no foul. Tegan added, “How horrible though. I do not believe they are allowed to make you repeat the course unless you failed it. And you passed. Right, Aera?” Her brows started to knit in concern. Surely, Arabella was not exactly the most concerned about her classwork all the time. She could be. But she could also be so incredibly energetic that writing seven inches of parchment was torture. Though writing up seemingly endless inches of parchment was torture for just about anyone. Unless they enjoyed a lot of handwriting and homework. In which case, Tegan supposed they might enjoy it.
Mason and Tegan said in unison, turning to look at Aera to see if she was kidding, “Really?” She seemed rather serious, as she continued to comment on the logic behind his class choice. After Jeong-Tae’s outburst on talking to ghosts, it seemed strange that he was suddenly interested in a course like Ghoul Studies. Though perhaps he was more interested than he was trying to let on. Tegan didn’t know much about Jeong-Tae’s actual opinions (which she had a feeling was intentional), but maybe he was just trying to keep up an image. Or he had split opinions on the matter and he was trying to take a class to educate himself. Which was a very intelligent idea in Tegan’s opinion. Though he had not exactly been acting open-minded when he made that comment to Arianna.
Tegan told Ari, “It is absolutely fantastic that you already know what you want to be when you grow up. It took me years to figure it out myself.” The fact that the girl had already made the decision made her seem rather impressive to Tegan. Or driven at least.
Meanwhile, Mason seemed to have returned to his conversation with Kaylynn about her summer. For a moment at least. He muttered, “Yeah. Oh.” Even he was probably a bit bashful about bringing up such a painful memory. After all, normal people did not casually bring up deaths. Mason apparently hadn’t considered that asking her about that fact had meant that he would be casually asking her about who died. Which was rough.
Mason quickly latched on to the girl’s next comment, trying to erase his temporary rudeness. Not that he was not rude normally. But that was a little worse than usual. Mason nodded, “Dragons’re great. Do you want to study them in person? Can you do that? What made you want to continue on with Muggle Studies? For fun or does it have something with what you want to do when you’re done with school?”
Arianna announced two of Jaxon’s classes. It seemed he was taking the classes with Tegan, Mason, and Aera. But then Jax added on, listing the rest of his classes. Tegan breathed, “Oh.” Mason glanced at Tegan before chuckling, “Looks like Jax is going to have a friend other than Owl.” Tegan clarified, smiling encouragingly at Jax, “We have the exact same schedule. I suppose our plans have the same NEWT requirements.” While they had been chatting, Owl, as Mason stated, had settled herself with Jax. She looked rather comfortable. And fluffy. Aera was laughing, which made sense because it was a little funny to see the sweet fluffy creature cuddling with Jax, who seemed so threatening when he wanted to be.

Ariella felt a little more confident when so many people had taken her side on the matter of speaking with ghosts. She liked to think she wasn't a bother to them, and she seemed to have an easier time getting along with the once alive beings. Maybe it was the fact that they weren't flesh and blood that made her less shy to speak with them. Or maybe it was just that ghosts seemed to be nicer than most people. She assumed because some were actually quite lonely. The opposite of what J.T. had thought aloud a moment ago.
When Aera mentioned that Jeong Tae was going to take Ghoul Studies, Ari smiled. "Is he really? That's great! Maybe I can ask him about it...." Wondering if she was getting ahead of herself, she was relieved when Aera mentioned that J.T. would probably be willing to share stuff he learned with her. That was great. Ari had really wanted to take the class, but it was just too much for her schedule this year. Next year for sure though.
As Tegan scolded Aera for not knowing her schedule and then praised Ari for knowing exactly what she wanted to be already, the younger girl beamed. "Well, watching Kaylynn study in the common room is actually what sparked my interest in becoming a Magizoologist.... The creatures she talks about seem so fascinating." Glancing toward Kaylynn, Ari could only blush at mentioning it was due to her housemate she had chosen this career path.
Jax meanwhile remained quiet through most of the chatter until the Owl, who apparently was named simply owl, had decided to make a new home of his lap. As Aera laughed about it, and the others seemed amused by the creature taking a liking toward him, he only grunted slightly looking at it as it fluffed up in his lap. With a mumble he stated "stupid bird." But made no attempt to shoo her away, instead gently petting her ruffled feathers. Though his expression remained as serious and intense as always.
When Mason commented on Jax having another friend, and Tegan added on that she had the same classes as he did, he looked toward them. "Guess we'll be seeing a lot of each other then." A simple, factual remark. Though it held no detail as to what exactly he was planning to do with his NEWTs and did not hold the politeness of asking Tegan what she was planing to be either.
Ari looked to Tegan decided that she wanted to know even if her brother didn't. After all, Tegan seemed fascinated by Ariella's choice in profession. "What are you planning on doing after graduation Tegan? Jax is going to try to become and Auror... Though I don't think that's exactly what you are going to do too..." Realizing how that sounded Ariella quickly added on - obviously flustered - "Not that you couldn't... You could if you wanted to, it's just you don't really seem the type... Not that you're not strong or anything!" Getting frustrated with herself Ari decided to just stop talking, but only for a brief moment before looking out the window. "We're here!"
