Kaylynn was surprised about how enthusiastic Mason was about her studying dragons. Sure a little bit before that he was feeling sheepish about bringing up the fact she had seen someone die, but she had brushed it off already. He meant nothing by it, and she knew that. No harm in asking questions, she liked it slightly that someone was a little interested in what she did and her past.
“Well, I would like to go out to the field and study them. I have seen a few from affair, not many, but a few. I think living in a secluded place and watching them grow up and learning there behaviour patterns would be most fascinating.” She paused looking to the window for a moment. “Even to see if there is any way you could train them to work with people. I know that its illegal and all, but they seem to be such magnificent beasts. That’s kinda what I want to do once I graduate anyways, who knows if it will ever happen though.” Pausing for a breath she shrugged about the muggle studies unable to hide the smirk.
“My parents hate that I like the stuff, and I have to admit I do it to spite them a bit.” She laughed. “And it’s interesting what kind of inventions they create to make their lives easier. What about you? What are you studying this year?” she asked Mason clearly interested in what he had to say. Even if he could be a little rude, Kaylynn liked the fellow.
While talking Kaylynn was half listening to the conversations going on around her and she had to suppress her laugh about the idea that JT was just bugging Ari and herself about the ghosts. It was good for him though, it was an interesting class to say the least.
Kaylynn couldn’t help but hear Ari’s comment about her helping her decide what she wanted to do, and the blush that appeared on her cheeks. She wasn’t sure what to say to the girl but she smiled kindly nodding her head. “You ever uh have questions ask away…I’ll try and keep my attention on you as best as I can.” She beamed before looking out the window and ginned standing to her feet. “Yes we are here! Oh that reminds me.”
Turning towards Owl she patted her head. “I have dubbed you Clover, thanks to the clover necklace on her neck. I think it fits her.”

Aera felt flustered when Mason commented on the fact she didn’t know her schedule. It isn’t that uncommon to forget your classes…I mean…she isn’t the only one that forgets what her classes are after attending them for several months, right? Not really knowing how to respond, Aera did a JT thing and didn’t reply to Mason, turning her attention back towards Tegan when she made mention of retaking a class.
“Eh...you know me Tegan…” laughing under her breath, Aera smirked wickedly then quickly recovered herself to continue speaking. “They just don’t think I use my magic wisely, so I have to retake a class to try and relearn.” Sighing heavily Aera had leaned back in the bench and rested her head against the compartment wall, her natural black hair causing problems as it was held back in a hair tie. As she listened to everyone talk around her she had suppressed a smile. These people already had an idea as to what they wanted to do when they grew up? Geeze. They’re way ahead of her on that one.
“Aish…” she started, a genuine look of resentment crossing her expression and a few Korean words slipping under her breath. Leaning forwards Aera had studied Ari and Kay with interest, clicking her tongue as she thought. “Look at you guys already knowing what you want to do after Hogwarts. I’m in my last year and I still haven’t figured that out yet.” Glancing to the side to see Jeong-Tae casually standing where he was this entire time without movement, Aerabella jumped a little when Ari exclaimed that they had made it to their destination. That was quick…like, really, really fast. Letting her hair down from the hair tie she had hated, the teen watched as Kay gave Owl the name Clover. That was a cute name and it fit the animal nicely, she was just wondering how J.T would feel about it. Owl was fine with it and even made some odd clicking sound like an owl’s equivalent of purring, and Clover turned her head all the way around to stare up at Jax as he petted her.
“Well with wherever you end up finding your career, just make sure you become very successful so I can work for you! I don’t think too many people would enjoy me as their employee.” Although she said this jokingly Aera was being serious, then dropping her smile when Jeong-Tae decided to return. He looked at everyone with a plain face of nothing –as usual- and held out his arm; Owl, no, Clover, immediately freed herself from Jax and flew over to her owner like a loyal dog. Unfortunately for him Clover decided that his head would be more comfortable, and so she clawed her way on top of his head and sat there as though it was a nest; her talons causing J.T to restrain himself from wincing as they dug into his scalp. He didn’t move though. Just…waited for everyone else to get their stuff. Mainly Aera.
Aera wanted to ensure that Ari knew she wasn’t lying or being over dramatic when she told her that J.T would help her out with her ghost studies. So bringing up the dead topic –which did not make Jeong-Tae happy as he glared at her- Aera asked him about the Ghoul Studies and his willingness to teach Ari.
“Yo bro- wait, cous’. You’re my cousin not my brother, sorry, bah. Anyways, you said a few days ago that you’d help Ari out with any questions about the Ghoul Studies right?”
Jeong-Tae didn’t say anything. Instead he only looked towards Ari and nodded, then stepped forwards in the small, cramped train room as people started to scurry by in the corridors. They were all excited to get off of the train apparently. It was nice though. Sometimes J.T didn’t even want to leave. Aera then gave Ari a smile and stood up, stretching out her arms and changing back into that little boy who had barged in here earlier and jumped on Teagan. She put her stuff away in this disguise…so to avoid any suspicions, she morphed back to get her belongings from elsewhere.
“I’ll leave you all in the tender care of my cousin, c’ya!”
With that Aera left and bounded down the train’s halls, leaving J.T standing there awkwardly. His hand actually twitched for a second with how uncomfortable he was, then settled his gaze on Jax for a few moments questioning Clover’s sudden affection for him. Turning towards Kay, Jeong-Tae cleared his throat a little before speaking. It was obvious that he could hear everything they were saying from outside the room.
“Dragons are fascinating creatures. They provide us with so much knowledge that it is almost painful to see them chained up. Truly beautiful beasts, enjoy your time with them when you get your chance.”
Oh how cute. He’s trying to be nice…failed a bit since he was pretty much monotone the entire time, but he tried. Aera told him to be nice to Ari and Kay since they are very shy people. Shifting constantly with his uneasiness at this situation, Jeong-Tae pried Clover from his head and bowed a farewell, simply saying “I’ll leave first” before departing.

Tegan gaped, “It is still a rather awful arrangement. Perhaps you ought to attempt to test out of it. After all, sixth year schedules are so intense with all the NEWT preparation for seventh year. They should not be attempting to add a course to your workload, especially considering you have already completed the coursework.” Mason queried, “Who exactly said you have to retake it? I wanna know if they do that to all the ‘troublemakers’ at Hogwarts, because that doesn’t really seem fair.” Tegan felt frustrated on Aera’s behalf for having to retake such an elementary course. It seemed rather stilly for them to give her a remedial course in Magic Theory instead of just a detention or maybe some sort of self-help book. Adding extra work would surely worsen Aera’s temper and make her much more wont to cause trouble, which made the whole endeavor counterproductive. Aera did not seem that upset by the matter though. Maybe because the course would be relatively easy for her anyway.
Tegan grinned; she thought the whole tale of Ari following in Kaylynn’s footsteps was rather charming. After all, Kaylynn had inadvertently inspired Ari to become a Mazoologist. Maybe that would spark a deeper friendship between the two shy girls, who had a lot in common after all. Or at least a mentorship of sorts. It seemed like an excellent arrangement to Tegan. Kaylynn seemed pretty comfortable with it as well. So perhaps everything had worked out for the best with those two. Ari would certainly appreciate the help from an older student. Though the girl was smart enough on her own, as Tegan guessed from their conversation and Ari’s status as a Ravenclaw, it was always a happy advantage to have an older student’s advice about a class and so on. It made studying easier, or at least helped in guessing what to expect.
---
Mason, for one, was really glad when Kaylynn talked about dragons without getting angry about him asking her if she had seen someone die. Kaylynn was a sweet girl, so he hadn’t exactly expected her to punch him or yell at him really, but he had unintentionally touched on a rather sensitive subject. So he was glad to listen, quietly for once, about her plans with the dragons.
She really had a goal planned out though. She knew exactly what she wanted to study with the dragons after school. And she was in a program at Hogwarts that would thoroughly prepare her to study dragons. Mason figured she would have to take on some kind of apprenticeship to get to the dragons, but she seemed smart and driven enough to qualify for any such program. And she was going to study dragons, which was cool in itself.
When Kaylynn told him that she was mostly fascinated by Muggle inventions, he turned to Tegan (interrupting her current conversation), who, as far as he knew, was the only other person in the compartment to have experience living with Muggles, “Did you hear? It’s always Muggle inventions isn’t it? Have you got an electric toothbrush or something on you? Oh! A cell phone.” Tegan cast a glance in his direction, “You know that I have neither item. I do not even own a phone because they do not work on Hogwarts grounds anyway and it seemed frivolous to pay a bill for a phone I cannot use for most of the year. And I find electric toothbrushes odd, I am not too lazy to brush my own teeth.” Mason teased, as Tegan muttered something to her shoes about his grammar, “So low tech, Tegan.”
Mason turned back to Kaylynn, continuing their conversation as if he hadn’t paused to talk to Tegan, “Rebellion, eh? I guess it’s a pretty safe rebellion, no tattoos you’ll regret in the morning.” He glanced at Aera for a moment, “Though I like yours, Aera. Tattoos are cool, just not when you can’t remember where you got them.” Mason continued, “Ah, studying up to be a journalist for the Prophet. There’s not really a program for it that I could find. You just gotta be good at it. Over the holiday I researched the NEWTS of some of the Prophet reporters and found all the common ones they took and picked from those. Though I didn’t take any of the boring ones. I couldn’t force myself into that again. I decided on Ancient Runes instead of another course because I thought it would be more advantageous if I ended up covering something more towards that end of study. I could know my own translations instead of having to deal with other people if they ever discover something like that and I get to study it. My dad studies ancient objects actually, so it seems important to me at least, so it’s got to be important to other people, right?” Mason shut his mouth just as he heard Ari begin to reveal why she had decided to become a Mazoologist, which was what Tegan had been inquiring about when he interrupted her.
---
Tegan could not decide her exact feelings on having Jaxon in all of her classes. Well, he had never been outright rude to her. She did not really remember him being one of those boys who pulled hair back in first or second year. So that was a plus. But he was not exactly the nicest guy either. A bit quiet and kind of scary. Tegan supposed she hadn’t paid much attention to him before. Well, everything would reveal itself soon enough. They would either get along well, or they wouldn’t. Tegan decided just to nod at his rather short comment that they would be seeing a lot of each other. Not exactly friendly. Or unfriendly. Just factual.
Arianna seemed to attempt to make up for her brother by asking Tegan what she was doing in the same program as Jax, explaining his intentions and blundering over herself when she said that Tegan probably didn’t want to be an Auror. She was right, but she seemed to feel bad about assuming so. And she kept talking, so Tegan didn’t exactly have the chance to help her out before the girl announced that they were there.
Mason exclaimed, “Time flies, huh?”
Tegan stood up, just as everyone else started to shift to leave the compartment. She told Ari, quickly before everyone spread out or got lost in the chaos that would be the corridor, “It is fine. You were right, I have no interest in being an Auror. Though it does seem like a rewarding career. I want to work at St. Mungo’s.”
The compartment seemed to be in as much of a whirlwind as Tegan expected the corridor to be. Everyone was hurrying to straighten themselves and finish off conversations, well, Kaylynn was renaming Clover, before they all hurried to the carriages and then the feast. Tegan was glad she had taken a moment when they were touring compartments to change into her uniform or she would already be hauling through the crowded corridor to change before the feast, as showing up out of uniform was highly frowned upon.
Jeong-Tae reappeared, and Owl-newly-dubbed-Clover returned to him, perching himself in what looked like a painful manner upon his head. Tegan asked, concerned for his scalp, “Do you need some hel-” The rest of her question was drowned out by Aera’s movement and then asking Jeong-Tae about his Ghoul Studies idea. Well, apparently Jeong-Tae was fine, as he was not really grimacing and he was moving on after Aera disappeared as a fourteen-year-old for no apparent reason. Mason shouted a farewell after her.
Meanwhile, Jeong-Tae commented on his opinion about dragons, revealing that he had apparently been listening to Mason and Kaylynn’s conversation. Tegan could not figure out why he hadn’t just stayed in the compartment then. There had been room while Aera was still sitting on her lap, so that was not the issue. He could have sat quietly inside just as well as he could have stood quietly outside. Strange. Maybe he was avoiding Mason, who was always asking questions and trying to get people to participate in conversation.
Then Jeong-Tae disappeared, yanking Clover off his head as well. That certainly looked painful. But if it was, he made no comment. Tegan was curious if he was bleeding from all of that. He ought to go to the hospital wing in that case then train the owl not to grip his head so. Or maybe she had just gripped his hair, but that seemed unlikely to Tegan, as the owl had been awfully steady. Tegan turned her head, slinging her bag over her shoulder as she hurried after Jeong-Tae to confirm his condition, “I will see you all at the feast.”
Tegan hurried down the corridor, trying to catch up with Jeong-Tae, who had a few moments head start, without shoving other students out of her way. After a minute of weaving politely through the crowd, Tegan managed to land herself next to Jeong-Tae. She breathed, “You walk quickly, I struggled to catch up for a minute there.” Tegan attempted to match his stride, but hurried to state her purpose before Jeong-Tae decided she was just looking for Aera, “Anyway, Clover seemed to grab your head pretty well with her claws. Are you okay? Do you want me to walk you down to the hospital wing? Head wounds do bleed extraordinarily and I imagine those claws must smart something horrible.”
---
Mason followed Tegan’s example, walking out as he told Kaylynn, “Yeah, I’ve heard about them being chained up. You’ll work on that while you’re studying to see if they can work with people too then? Right? Otherwise it doesn’t seem fair to chain them up just so we can work alongside them, does it?” He figured they might as well chat some more as they walked to catch a carriage and then ride to the castle. No reason to do it in silence. Even if it was just chatter, it was better than being quiet in his opinion. Mason added, “Love the name for the owl too by the way. Better than just calling her Owl. Definitely.”
By the time they reached the Great Hall, it was a good three-quarters of the way full and Mason was famished. He waved a farewell to Kaylynn, “I’ll talk to you later.” Mason jogged off to catch up with some of his housemate buddies before the Sorting Ceremony began.

As every one seemed to stop their conversation at the exclamation that they were here, Ari felt a bit embarrassed for announcing it so abruptly. Truth be told it was because she was so excited. Hogwarts was the better parts of her year. Where she wasn't stuck with a family who ignored her and pretended that she was the bane of their existence. Well, she supposed it was natural for her step-mother to feel in such a way, but her entire family treated her like that. The only person who paid any mind to her - though it wasn't always kind - was Jaxon.
When the train came to a halt and the group had begun gathering themselves to catch the carriages, Aera stopped to mention the ghoul studies thing aloud. J.T. of course didn't respond on the subject but instead nodded, to which Ariella smiled. She was glad that he would tell her what went on in the class... Since after all she wasn't able to take it this year. Then Aera flashed a smile and was off as that boy - around Ari's age - darting down the hall.
As Ariella also stood to gather herself to get off the train, Tegan mentioned that she was correct on her not wanting to be an Auror. Ari blushed as she remembered her little faux pas, but smiled that Tegan took the time to set the record straight and show she wasn't offended in the least by the flub. Then she too was off with Mason not far behind her example. Ari only made movement to leave the compartment as Kaylynn and her brother did.
Then it was there, the great hall. Ariella stuck close to Kaylynn as they were in the same house. The girl had a few friends in her own year, but she didn't hang out with them often due to her brother scaring them, usually. So she was closer to Kaylynn than she was to them... Which actually was a little sad since she wasn't really close with the other girl either. However, Ari was sure the elder girl didn't mind the younger tagging along with her, at least for now.
----
Jaxon had been quiet for most of the entire time that every one was chattering. Which was fine with him, he was certain had he opened his mouth about anything, questions would be shot his way. Since their little chatter session seemed to be basically that, questions and answers. He really didn't think it was any of their business what he was planning to do after schooling, nor what his school year was like. He supposed maybe it was Tegan's business since they were in the same classes, but otherwise, they were all on a need to know basis and they didn't really need to know.
Though he was ready to be away from these talkative fools, he followed along if only to keep an eye on Ariella. When they reached the great hall however, they had no choice but to separate. The male gave his younger sister's shoulder a squeeze, accompanied with a look before wandering off to the Slytherin section, where he sat with a bunch of his friends, already making fun of a few people. It was just what they did.
-----
Sitting at the front of the great hall as all teachers do, Cypress examined her students who were back for another year. Though she greeted everyone with a friendly look and a smile, she was actually doing this to see how they have grown and changed. Some naturally got quite good looking with age, and others well, they failed in the aesthetics department. She felt if she caught awkward eye contact she could judge them better. Or maybe she just liked the awkwardness.
Quickly becoming bored and distracted from this task she provided herself, she began primping herself, suddenly worried if she looked presentable for all these people. Especially these new first years who were to be sorted soon. She would definitely need to be the prettiest teacher there. Though with her being one of the youngest, she certainly was.

Kaylynn hadn’t had a chance to comment on JT’s comment about dragons before he was gone. But he had been right, she was going to study the dragon and get the Ministry to stop chaining the beasts up and stop causing them pain. It wasn’t right for any creature to be brought to their knees with force. “Thank you J.T.” she said quietly before turning back to Mason who seemed to be just as excited about her plans with the dragons. It was slightly surprising, she hadn’t expected so many people to be inestered in what she was planning to do with the rest of her life after the NEWTs.
“Oh yes, tattoo’s you will regret..” Kaylynn’s hand rubbed the back of her neck absentmindedly as he poked fun at Tegan. No one would have to know about her tattoo, and so far she had gone most of her years at Hogwarts with no one seeing it, and she would do her best to keep it like that. “Oh, that sounds like a marvellous plan. Ancient runes are what I took as well, just for the interest of them though, I wish I had time to take them all, I have the want for so many things but no time.” She laughed lightly before taking a breath and stood to her feet. The time had come for them to get off the train and she was excited.
This was the place she felt most safe, and considering it was Hogwarts that was a statement. Looking around she took a breath and slowly made her way out of the compartment, glad she had placed uniform on at home before coming onto the train. Sure she had been late, but she still had been able to get to the train on time. Gathering her stuff she nodded to Mason. “Oh yes, that is one of the reasons I want to get into it..” she trailed off smiling sadly. “I want to work to get the beasts free and to a point that we can use them but only with there willingness.” With her bags in hand she started to walk out with Mason.
“Oh well thank you. I hope he doesn’t mind that I named it…Clover isn’t my pet but not naming a pet just seems…odd and like they don’t care to take the time. But that could just be me.” Kaylynn said quietly hoping no one would take offence of her statement. With the great hall in view she took a deep breath and smiled.
“Is it sad that this old castle feels more like home then home?” she said to no one in particular. She could see some of the Therus being taken to the stalls and she smiled slightly. “See you Mason. Ari if your looking for me I’m right here.” She called seeing the young girl looking lost for a moment she stood in the crowd as people pushed by.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw her brother watching her with a look that could cause a chill down her back. She stared for a moment before walking to her table. “Come on Ari you can um…Sit by me if you want too. The sorting is going to start soon.” She mumbled feeling shaken.
--
Landon sat upright and proud at the head table with the rest of the teachers watching as the students came filing into the great hall in what seemed to be a mess. He kept his eyes on the new students and the ones he knew and he couldn’t help but feel tired. The sorting was going to happen, then he could have something to eat and put the finishing points to his lesson for tomorrow.

Joeng-Tae had at first ignored Tegan and her attempts to talk with him. She was Aera's friend, not his. There should be no reason for her to want to communicate with him, and certainly not a reason for him to also be interested. Before he was about to open his mouth to tell her that he didn't know where his cousin had run off to, Tegan continued to speak. She wanted to know if he was okay? That was a little odd. He figured she would be more concerned with Clover than she ever would be of himself, although he did understand her point. Although, something about her words made him flinch. Jeong actually stepped from the express before answering her questions, looking at her with dark, seemingly lifeless eyes. He finally figured out why her words bothered him.
With a trickle of blood running down his forehead, Jeong-Tae made no effort to acknowledge the injury and spoke.
"When referring to a bird, especially one of prey, is it not more natural to distinguish their claws as talons? It is a little peculiar for someone who is such a stickler for proper English to use the less appreciated and acknowledged term for something so simple."
He didn't even blink until he was done speaking. Clover, able to understand everything being said, turned her head quite awkwardly at Jeong-Tae when she looked up at him. With her talons she gripped onto his arm harshly, forcing him to react like someone who was burned. His mother and Aera had both said that when he got out of line Clover should be the one to take care of it. Damn that charm...but it was a good reminder to be on better behavior. Still, feeling nothing as he looked back towards Tegan, Jeong bowed his head semi respectfully and sighed. More blood began to surface on his scalp. He knew she wasn't dumb and was probably right when she said "Head wounds do bleed extraordinarily." Just to ensure that he did not hear any complaints from Aera, who might actually be standing next to them (who knew), he decided to just roll with the situation.
"Pardon me. But you are correct. Her..." pausing, trying not to inflate his tone on the word talons, J.T decided to just say what she said to try and seem like he actually cared little for her choice of words "...claws do tend to leave quite the marks." He felt Clover's claws tighten again although he was unsure as to why. To avoid Clover from actually start pecking at his face (which she has tried to do), Jeong rushed to say something. "If you honestly want to then you can walk with me to the hospital wing."
Those must have been the magical words because Clover relaxed quite a bit. Aish. What a bratty owl.
---------
Aera ran through the express wildly as the first year she disguised herself to be. When she had managed to grab a hold of her belongings she had darted out the train to be one of the first people to get to Hogwarts. The place was how it always was to her. Dark, old, mysterious, exciting...she always wondered what other wizard schools looked like. How the people acted and what the different sects or whatever were called. She was a snake apparently, her brother a bird. Did that ever make them enemies? She never thought of that until now. Funny, actually. Very...funny.
Slipping through the crowd of people when she had finally gotten to 'her' seat at the table, she watched people enter both timidly and confidently. When they entered her eyes would immediately fall onto Ari and Kay, although her sights trailed after Jax. She planned on making this an interesting year...and certainly Jax would be a fun pawn? Anyways, watching as he resorted to his stupid friends and let his poor sister alone with another shy, skittish girl, Aera rolled her eyes and laid her head down on the table facing the teachers. She looked around and saw all the teachers she knew and the select ones she didn't know, and glared at the sorting hat just perched there...Aera just didn't think it was right that something could know her inner thoughts. Or at least who she really was. But here it was, a hat, that could know how twisted you really are.
Maybe she should try and burn it. That would be nice...
Lifting her head up suddenly Aera noticed that she hadn't spotted Jeong-Tae yet. Usually he was the first to enter the Great Hall since there was no one for him to try and mingle with. When her hunt failed in search for her cousin she could only scowl, wondering if he found something interesting that he was studying. That was no fair...she didn't want to be stuck seeing the same thing every year while he discovered something! Okay, fine, exaggeration. But still. Ugh! This was boring. She didn't like anyone in her house. Blah, no thank you. Shifting quite often for her discomfort grew rapidly from boredom, Aera decided to wander over to Gryffindor's table. Seriously, who cared?
Disguising herself as another male -a preference against females- the metamorphmagus had slipped into the crowd carefully to avoid the watchful eyes of the teacher, and then ventured over to the other table. Finding Mason she quickly sat next to him -although with no chair- and looked at him like he was prey.
"Hey." When she said this her word was dragged out like when she exclaimed she was "gooood." She also morphed her now green eyes into a nice gold to let him know that it was her.
Out of everyone she knew...Mason would be the one more willing to talk when they're not supposed to. When did he ever shut up?

Mason nodded thoughtfully at Kaylynn’s comment. He wondered how much exactly dragons understood of human speech. And if they understood a lot, could wizards convince them with logic to work and avoid eating their helpers. Mason was not sure how he would feel about that if he were a dragon. He would just want to fly around and do dragon things, not help little wizards. Although, Kaylynn was the expert, so maybe she would figure out a system of payments to encourage the dragons. Then they might be convinced to cooperate. Well, time would tell, Mason supposed. Maybe he would report on it when he grew up. And he would get to say that he knew Kaylynn when she was just starting out.
After his compliment on the owl’s name, Kaylynn suddenly seemed a little bit nervous about her decision. It was not like Jeong Tae couldn’t just change the name to whatever if he actually took the time to name the creature. Mason assured her, “He’ll get over it.” He shifted to his knees to get a better look at the approaching castle. The building was impressive, and even more so given its apparent growth as they slowly approached.
Mason was still pondering if the castle had some sort of enchantment upon it to make it more impressive when someone appeared next to him at the table. He frowned, the sorting had not started yet, this person was definitely older than a first year, and Mason did not recognize him from his house. Not that Mason was perfect, but he made it his business to know about his housemates. After all, they lived together, so he could at least recognize all of them on sight if not remember a few facts about them. So this was strange.
The boy was greeting him with a strange stare. And a long ‘hey.’ Mason paused, “Er…”
Then he saw it. Amidst the slightly frightening gaze. Golden eyes. Like Arabella. And the ‘hey’ was long, as she had answered Tegan earlier. Thank goodness, that made much more sense than a strange student appearing out of nowhere to creep on Mason.
Mason sighed, “Oh, it’s you. You know, over the summer I didn’t have to deal with this sort of emotional turmoil.” He rolled his eyes, “Normal people just walk up and greet their friends, not scare them. Although, this is more exciting I guess.” He drummed his fingers on the table, “I’m so hungry. They need to start sorting so I can start eating.”
The hall was almost full by now. So it was almost time for the first years to join them and begin their Hogwarts experiences. He just wished they would hurry up. Speaking of, where was Tegan? Mason glanced at the Hufflepuff table again. No, she definitely was not there. That was strange. Though it was very like Tegan to be late. But what could have made her late? It was only the first day. She couldn’t have found someone to fuss over between the train and the Great Hall doors, right? Mason asked, “Where do you think Tegan went? She should come sit with us.”
Then the doors creaked open. Mason muttered, “Well, she’s too late now. Seat hopping during the sorting would be considered interrupting, so Tegan would not dare.” He twisted in his seat, trying to get a good look at the first years. He wondered which ones Gryffindor would get. He hoped they got that loud boy, he was standing amidst a few of his peers and they were all laughing hysterically. Mason would like to have another loudmouth in his house. If only for the kicks and giggles. One boy had his nose in a book and was pointing at the different house banners, like he was reciting information out of them from his books. That one was probably a Ravenclaw. If only because he had somehow dragged that book along with him to a ceremony. The deputy headmaster stood, raising one hand to request silence. The rumble of conversation quelled, leaving the hall in a rare moment of silence. A few moments later, the Sorting Hat began its annual song, leaving the students to listen in relatively polite quietness.
---
Tegan struggled to keep up with Jeong-Tae’s strides. Even after she had managed to catch up with him, he did not exactly slow down to match her stride. And Tegan kept a pretty good pace. At least she thought so. She was, however, much shorter than Jeong-Tae- maybe with a 20 centimeter difference between them. So Jeong-Tae had an easier time speeding along.
Besides the fact that he was walking a little quicker than she would have desired, he did not talk to her. He just looked rather perplexed about why she was asking him if he was okay at all. Sure, they were not really friends, but he was bleeding. And blood was dripping down his forehead by the time they had stepped off the train. Tegan frowned, watching the trail of blood. She started to reach a hand towards it, but quickly dropped her hand back, not sure what she would have achieved by touching the blood.
Before she had the opportunity to suggest that they move faster, Jeong-Tae corrected her grammar. Her grammar, of all people. Well, he actually didn’t correct her grammar, but rather her word choice. He complained that she ought to have said talons instead of claws because she was such a stickler for the English language. That was a little harsh. But she supposed it was very much Jeong-Tae. It had not really crossed her mind that claws and talons were not synonyms. Thinking on it, she supposed he was correct. Talons made a bit more sense. It was a more specific term for the appendages. But she didn’t really think it was so wrong that he needed to point it out to her and criticize. Maybe he was trying to teach her a lesson about thinking before she spoke. Though Tegan was hardly as careless as Mason about that, so she wasn’t sure why she was getting the lecture.
Before Tegan could open her lips to defend herself, Clover seemed to have done it for her. Well, she seemed to grip Jeong-Tae tighter. For a moment Tegan thought the owl just enjoyed torturing the boy. After all, she had already grabbed on to his head, leaving him bleeding. And now she seemed to be attempting to wound him again. Jeong-Tae was going to end up bleeding out someday if Clover didn’t learn how to control herself.
And a moment later, Jeong-Tae agreed with her. Well, in so much as he admitted that Clover had clawed some holes into his head. Not even that it hurt. Or that he cared. Just that she had two working eyes and observed the head wounds.
Though Tegan noted that he had used the term claw as well. Either he had come around or he was making fun of her. She couldn’t quite decide which because his tone did not really indicate what his actual opinion on the word was. Although, he paused slightly before saying it, so that certainly indicated some sort of thought.
Half a wince and Tegan glanced at Clover. She seemed to be tightening her grip on Jeong-Tae. Then Jeong-Tae kept talking. Well, he added to what he was saying. He offered her the grand opportunity to walk him to the hospital wing if she so desired. Tegan glanced from the owl to Jeong-Tae several times, trying to puzzle out what silent exchange she had missed. Tegan worried if she knitted her eyebrows any more they might fuse together. Not to mention she nearly ran into a fourth year in the process of trying to figure out what was happening.
Not to mention the owl managed to convince Jeong-Tae to do her a favor and let her walk him up to the hospital wing. Not that that was what she wanted to walk him to the hospital wing. She would rather be sitting in the Great Hall watching some first years get sorted and await her first magical dinner of the year appear on her plate. That sounded like a good time to her. Not walking someone across the castle just to watch someone else do all the actual helping and enchanting.
But she couldn’t just not help him either, she supposed. Maybe he was just trying to act macho or aloof for his own sake. So that he did not look weak in front of his cousin’s friend. Or a younger girl at least. Some boys were like that she supposed. That would explain why he was acting like he would go to the hospital wing as a favor to Tegan rather than because he was bleeding.
Tegan rolled her eyes, smirking, “Thank you. I really enjoy the privilege of escorting you to the hospital wing. We should hurry or we will miss the feast.” Tegan turned and set them in the direction of the hospital wing, trying to keep up the pace they had set moments before.

Following behind Kaylynn, Ari sat next to the girl glancing around noticing J.T. wasn't present. She wondered if he went to go sit with a different house, or maybe he was skipping the ceremony all together. She didn't have much time to think on it though, as the headmaster began their annual speech and the sorting hat started its song. Looking over the first years, it was hard for Ariella to believe that she started here just a few years ago. Feeling a little nostalgic she watched intently and quietly.
Cypress was now standing at the attention of the room. Previously Minerva would read the names of the students as they were to come be sorted but that was her thing now. Reading them off one by one the houses would cheer and congratulate the first years that were sorted into their own.
Ari sat patiently, cheering when someone got picked to be in their house. If you could even really call it cheering considering she was so quiet. "I think we got quite a few good ones." She mentioned to Kaylynn as the sorting continued on. She was excited at the potential to meet new people, before the reality seeped back in, these were just more people her brother would scare off.
Speaking of her brother Jax and his Slytherin friends seemed to be chattering and judging each person that took the seat to be sorted. Mentioning which ones they wanted and which ones they didn't. And though Jax was in on the conversation he actually wished sorting would end already. He was starved and wanted to eat. This was just getting more annoying the more it dragged on.

The rest of the ceremony seemed to go rather smoothly. The first years all seemed to be accounted for and properly sorted into there new house teams; and the other students seemed to be making them feel welcome. Crouse, they were all happy to have new people. After having all there Seven years leave it was a pleasant surprise to have the new students, innocent and rule abiding. They would get points since they wouldn’t try and break all the rules—unlike a lot of the students.
After a few words from the Headmaster Magnus Bane the feats appeared before them all. It was a fantastic feast filled with all the food everyone had been looking forward to all evening. The laughs of the children and teenagers talking and mingling mad Landon smirk. They were ready for a new year, and so was he.
After many tiring hours the Perfects were instructed to bring the classmates to their respectful dormitories. The evening was for the kids enjoyment, to prepare them for the busy schedule that would be there life for the next nine months. Course many would stay up to late, mingle more and come to classes tired the next day but alas that was what kids did. And if you performed poorly you only had yourself to blame.
--Timeskip to Monday
“I have my book, my wand…quills..” Kaylynn pondered for a moment looking over her supplies on her bed. She had prepared for the day early, having been unable to sleep thanks to unnecessary chatter of the other students. It wasn’t a big bother though she just did what she always did. Studied and wrote in her journal. “I’m not missing anything I don’t think.” She thought aloud. “Course not, I have Ancient Runes, then that is followed by Defence Against The Dark Arts. And I have that book with parchment and more quills. That should be everything.” She nodded opening her satchel and placing the items in her bag.
Unlike the other students, even being here for three years prior, Kaylynn found herself getting lost every so often. And even though she had memorised the classes; you could never be to prepared for anything.
“I wonder if I should go see Hagrid later today, I don’t want to bother him already but I have missed the big giant.” There she went again, talking to herself like someone was there listening, and cared about what she had to say. At least she wasn’t seeing anything today, not yet. She really wanted to go and talk to Hagrid about the few dragons she had seen that summer. He had the same love for the creatures as she did, and she loved hearing about the baby dragon he had acquired years ago. If only she had been around to see the beauty.

The sorting seemed to take an eternity. Maybe it was just because he was really hungry and he wanted to eat. But the hat seemed to think every incoming student was some sort of hatstall, taking what seemed like an hour on each student. In reality though, most of the students were sorted relatively quickly with only a few hatstalls mixed into the group. One of the hatstalls ended up in Ravenclaw. The kid with the book followed in suit. The loudmouth ended up in Hufflepuff with Tegan, to Mason’s small dismay. Well, he would have to continue to be the loudest one in the house. In between the hours of studying he was going to have to endure to succeed on his NEWTs.
When it finally came time to eat, Mason stuffed his face, as any good teenage boy should. He was glad to be eating at Hogwarts again. While he usually started missing his father’s cooking a month or two into the year, the dishes of the house elves were a joy. Not to mention immensely satisfying. The spread of desserts seemed even more fantastic each year. There were more choices than even Mason could eat. Especially since he started by over energetically eating Pumpkin Pasties two at a time. That had put a stop to any hope he had for sampling a myriad of dishes. He petered out after his fourth dessert. What a shame. The good news was, he had the rest of the year to eat the rest of the dishes. Still, Mason slipped a tart into his pocket, just in case he got puckish before morning.
When the feast was over, Mason waved at Aera, “See you tomorrow. Probably. Actually, I should probably check the timetables outside. And you’ll have to figure out your schedule. I’ll bet you could ask one of the professors. Or your cousin. Weird how late he and Tegan were, isn’t it? I’ll have to ask what they were doing. There she is now. Walking to the timetables.” Mason dashed after her figure as she shuffled with the crowd.
---
After the strange events surrounding Jeong-Tae’s agreement to go to the Hospital Wing. Tegan was glad when Sir Montgomery stated that the talon marks were a simple fix. With a flick of his wrist and a softly-spoken spell, they could be on their way. Tegan could have managed that by herself. She made a mental note of the spell for future use. Surely it would be helpful in her future career, or at least the next time Aera got herself into trouble or Clover took mind to use her talons on Jeong-Tae again.
Tegan made it back to the Great Hall just in time to see the last student sorted and the beginnings of the feast. Which was wonderful, for she was rather hungry. From her seat, she spotted Mason sitting with someone Tegan did not recognize. How interesting. Although, Mason was rather sociable, so it was hardly a surprise that he was making new friends. It was certainly odd that Tegan did not recognize the person, since everyone seemed to know the other students at least a little bit. And the boy Mason was with was much too old to be a new student.
Regardless, the feast was marvelous, but Tegan was ready for bed herself. The first feast always took longer than supper for the rest of the year, so it was actually nearing Tegan’s bedtime. She yawned, spooning in a final bite of treacle tart before she got ready to check the timetables and walk back to the Hufflepuff Basement.
Just as she was toddling her way to the timetables when Mason’s arm landed on her shoulder and the other hand mussing her hair. Tegan ducked under him, rubbing her eyes to wake up a little bit. Mason started firing questions at her about why she was late and so forth. She sighed, “Jeong-Tae and I visiting the Hospital Wing as a result of his wounds inflicted by Clover. Now, I believe that it is time for bed. After all, classes start tomorrow and a good night’s rest is the best preparation for the first day of school.” Mason laughed, “Yeah, okay. I know it’s getting to your bedtime. And you’re a monster without your sleep.” Tegan rolled her eyes, “An appropriate amount of sleep is an essential part of success. Look, here are the timetables. You have class earlier than I do, it seems you should be racing to bed before you run out of time during which to sleep.” Mason groaned, “Ancient Runes first module. How unpleasant! I like Runes well enough, but staying up first thing and studying runes will be a struggle. At least Kaylynn will be up with me. You think she will poke me to keep me up on difficult mornings?” Tegan shrugged, “Perhaps if you ask nicely. According to the timetables, I will see you during Defense Against the Dark Arts. Sleep well, Mason.”
Finally rid of Mason, Tegan trudged to the basement and fell asleep the moment she laid her head upon her pillow.
-
In the morning, Tegan woke feeling well rested. She stretched, opening the curtains surrounding her bed. She could already hear the sounds of a few of the other girls chatting about their first day back to school and their anxieties about their NEWTs and complaining of exhaustion from staying up too late, a mistake Tegan rarely made.
After groggily cleaning up, Tegan was wide awake and excited for classes to begin. She rushed through breakfast, barely eating more than a slice of marmalade toast before she made her way to class. Strolling along, Tegan looked over the contents of her bag again, she had all her necessary supplies for class, but still nearly an hour before her classes began. Usually she was not quite this early, but she supposed excitement and her quick meal got the best of her.
Deciding to make the best of her time, Tegan glanced at the first year timetables and set off to help those poor confused new students find their way to class.
---
Mason was incredibly groggy when he woke up. He had been up late in the common room, catching up with old friends as well as introducing himself to his new housemates. There was simply too much to talk about for him to be able to go to sleep as Tegan instructed him. Now, of course, he was regretting staying up so late. But not regretting the fun he had. Still, stumbling to brush his teeth, he wished he had been able to squeeze in a few more hours. Or even for Ancient Runes to start a little bit later, so he could have a few more minutes of sleep.
Hauling down the stairs from the Gryffindor Tower, Mason had just enough time to snag three slices of toast, dunking the corners of two of them in the butter before he rushed towards Ancient Runes. He would have been even further delayed had it not been for the neatly written scrap of parchment posted as a reminder to jump the disappearing step. Tegan had placed the sign there during their second year because she felt bad for her classmates constantly getting trapped by the step. Well, it saved Mason today.
Nearly breathless, Mason stepped into Ancient Runes just on time. He breathed a sigh of relief before downing his last piece of toast. Mason slid into a seat on the edge of the classroom without even checking on who his deskmate was. The seat offered him an excellent view of his classmates and the professor while still allowing him to participate in plenty of conversations himself.

As the ceremony went on, Ariella listened carefully as Headmaster Bane gave his yearly speech. She wanted to be sure she didn't miss any new, news. Which of course she didn't. Then the sorting began conducted by ProfessorSpinner. She was an odd teacher. Pretty, usually kind, but odd and she had an unusually short attention span... And she seemed to play favorites with her students.
The sorting itself seemed to drag a bit. Ari clapped appropriately whenever someone was sorted into Ravenclaw. She wanted it to end already because the longer it went on the hungrier she got. But of course, the sorting didn't take that long... Long but not forever or anything, and it was finally time to eat. She enjoyed conversation about random things with Kaylynn. It was nice that they had common interests. It made it easier for a shy girl like Ariella to come out of her shell a little bit more.
As the feast began to end, Ari checked the time tables with Kaylynn and the two walked to the Ravenclaw dorm together, bidding farewell at that point as Ari went to her own room and left Kaylynn to do whatever it was a sixth year liked to do in their down time.
--------
As morning came around Ariella was up early as her first class of the day was an early morning one. She didn't mind though since it was one of her favorite subjects - Care of Magical Creatures. Not to mention she was excited to see Hagrid again and tell him of her adventures over the break. Well, and of course she was looking forward to all the things she would be learning this year. Again, it was one of her favorite subjects.
This particular class was held outside, so she took her book and waited with the other third year students for Hagrid to arrive. She was early along with a few other students so she took the opportunity to review some of her notes from last year. You could never be too prepared right? Well, and it wasn't like she had anything better to do. Ari wasn't really friends with people in her own grade. Mostly due to her shyness.
------
Jax had a rather uneventful sorting ceremony. Making trouble and cheering for Slytherin followed by stuffing his face was all it really consisted of. His time back at the dorms was even less eventful. He bid farewell to his 'friends' and simply went to his room to study up on potions and herbology. The banes of his existance. The only two classes he actually has to try at. Why couldn't it just come naturally to him? In any case, he lost track of time and went to bed significantly later than he would have liked.
In the morning however, he didn't feel too tired. At least not as tired as he thought he would, which was an accomplishment in his mind. Thankfully his class this morning wasn't too early either. As he got ready and double checked to make sure he had everything Jax was off to breakfast and what would be his one of classes of the day. Defense against the Dark Arts. When he arrived to the classroom he was early but not terribly early. He supposed he could have had a bit more for breakfast. Too late now.
Finding his seat Jaxon didn't care to find out who would be sitting with him. After all they would simply be sitting next to one another in this class right? So why should it matter to him who it is or isn't. Minimal interaction would be desired anyway.

Jeong-Tae felt absolutely embarrassed. No, he felt like an ant who was stomped on by God’s foot, tossed as the devil’s prostitute, and then reborn to be stomped on again. How could he, someone who praised himself as perhaps one of the more intellectual and intelligent individuals within Hogwarts, not think of such a simple trick to fix his cuts? Let alone with a witness to sit there and stare as this unholy event unraveled! He had missed the ceremony. Okay, well, he didn’t care about that…but it would be nice to get a first looks judgment on the new comers. He wanted to know what people to avoid as soon as possible so he wouldn’t have to go through the experience of understanding WHY he had to avoid them. People. Why?
Ever since Clover’s talon marks were healed J.T had remained utterly silent. He was always silent, but…even his silence was silent, if that made sense. Bad mood T-claw. As he lead the way back to the ceremony with Tegan –for waiting on her was not of his interest and he had probably forgotten that she existed-, it was much to his displeasure that the meal had already started. Perfect. He returned when everyone was their loudest for the day. Clover had tilted her head up to observe Jeong, the action excruciating painful for any human who was stupid enough to attempt being an owl. Yet they tried. Again…people, why?
When the owl had made note of the blank stare Jeong-Tae jabbed through the very depths into his classmate’s souls and the others of the less sophisticated houses, she dug her talons once again into his shoulder. This was just a way to force him to move since the terror of being surrounded by these people for another year had frozen him at the doorway. With a jolt from his pets…claws…J.T began to take a step forwards but decided otherwise. Not enough room, not enough quietness, not enough tolerable people, not enough privacy, not enough of anything decent in the world. But, somehow, it managed that there was more than enough of everything that wasn’t worth breathing for.
--------------------------
Aera decided that, since she was not in her rightful body, she would be one of those annoying people who would cheer on any newcomers who made it into Gryffindor. She was a Slytherin, yes, but she currently resided as a Gryffindor student. Don’t want the teachers to catch on, right? Besides, everyone who went into Slytherin made her stomach churn. Except for one guy, but that’s only because Aera thought he looked super adorable so it was ironic that such a little kid who appeared like him would end up in Slytherin. He just didn’t look the part, ya know?
Anyways, after a few jokes, comments, and criticizing words for every person that would be sorted by the funky hat up there, it was time to eat. Ah yes, one of the few good things about the first day returning. One got to eat some of the most delicious meals they could ask for! Of course, Aera was smart and never came to the feast empty handed. With her she totted around a small bag that was easy to conceal, though, by the time she would be done stuffing it with food it would be a little impossible NOT to see it. Aera always wondered if there was a spell or something that could fix that…pfft, whatever, not like she’d remember to use it anyways. That type of stuff wasn’t up her alley; and by looking around and spotting her cousin leaving the room (wait, when did he get here?!), these type of social events weren’t up her cousin’s alley. Such a weird expression.
Knowing that he’d grow hungry before bed, if he slept, Aera decided that this time most of what she’d collect would be turned over to that sociopath she had to call family. Before she knew it the feast was over and everyone began to depart. Mason bid his farewells and then made an excellent point. She should figure out her schedule. Ugh, what a drag. So, getting up and carrying a full but still relatively small bag of food with her, Aera –still disguised as a boy- went out hunting for J.T.
--------------------------
J.T had actually stood against the wall just outside that dreadful dining hall the entire time the people were consuming themselves in a disgusting display of edible lust. Like Aera, J.T does not come to things like these without something probably quite literally up his sleeve. The difference being that Jeong decides to bring things that will help him avoid the people, and Aera just brings whatever comes to mind. An unimaginable amount of boring time passed by as J.T scribbled in a notebook about his thoughts, things he remembers, ideas he has for who knows what, etc. etc., until finally the noise from just within the doors seemed to explode into a boisterous array of chattering fireworks. Pity. The majority of them hadn’t choked to death while they all babbled about pointlessly during their meal. Although…it would be a lie if Jeong-Tae said that temptation wasn’t swift when the aroma of food drifted casually from the doors in comparison to the loud bunch of morons.
Wait, why was it so strong? Seemed a little peculiar until he noticed a boy who he was certain was Aera. J.T didn’t know anyone else who would carry a bag of food out from the orientation dinner the way she did. That and the person was walking directly towards him, so that was a dead give away too.
“Jeong-Jeong!” shouted Aera with her childishly boy voice “What are you doing out here?” Jeong-Tae remained silent, contemplating how much he did or did not despise the new nick name of his first name used repetitively.
“Um, okay.” Muttering silently from the expected ‘response’, Aera tossed the bag towards J.T who barely caught it due to the notebook and pencil in his hands. “Well there’s some food so stop being a little shy school girl and get some rest and something to eat.”
Again he had remained quiet and Clover decided to fly over to Aera’s shoulder for the time being. When things seemed to quiet down a little bit Aera’s eyes shifted into a faded blue. Rolling her hand through her short, brown boy’s hair, the ‘twin’ had sighed heavily.
“I do worry about you, J.T. When you don’t eat and stuff and only jam your nose into those groggy looking books of yours.” If he was actually about to say something Aera didn’t let him, because her mood made a 360 and she started to poke at his shoulder harshly, unaware that Clover had done yet more damage to it. “Yo, what are my cla—“ before finishing the girl had found a piece of notebook paper in her face and it took a second for her to realize that it was her classes, including when and what day she’d have them. “Ah cool, thanks!”
J.T slightly lifted the bag of food up with a light bow of his head, his way of saying thanks for her act of kindness.
--------------------------
Well that was certainly an interesting night. Aera had forgotten that she was a boy by the time she reached Slytherin girl ‘headquarters’, so for the first few seconds there were a few girls having heart attacks. Then when she changed back? Oh dear. There were arguments with new comers about whether or not she’s pretending to be a girl now so she can stay but in actuality is some pervy guy, while others thought it was really cool and kept asking her the same questions she hears from every first years. Luckily some of the girls knew her and knew that she was in fact a female, and has always been a female, so at least the debate didn’t go on for too long. Other than that and showing off her ability a little, the night was good. Managed to sleep due to how much she ate. Oh, and was it mentioned that Clover stayed with Aera the entire time? Yeah, that was a little weird, too.
But come morning and the scent of food woke Aera up almost immediately. Dashing through the piling throng of people who wanted breakfast before the rest, she snatched a quick meal and ate it happily on her way to class. Thank you Jeo-jeo for the schedule. Feeling in a good mood today, Aera decided to actually get to class on time. Not just on time, but a little earlier than usual too. She passed a few people who seemed a little shocked that she was actually awake this early, giving them a smile and skipping away just to further their confusion.
Reaching class in a world record time for this girl, Aera sat there twiddling her thumbs and making random doodles all over the pages that are meant for notes. One by one, sometimes by two or three, students started joining her in this glorious morning class with circles under their eyes and a few smirks here and there. Right before class started she felt a rush of air pass her as someone had taken the seat as her deskmate quite immediately. Up until now she felt horrible because there was no one in this class she particularly liked, so seeing this kid, Mason, actually made her happy. And already being in a good mood plus this stroke of luck, Arabella had subconsciously hugged the boy and shouted “Yes! I’m not alone!” excitedly. Leaning away but placing her hands on his shoulders, Arabella made her next statement with a straight face but joking tone.
“From now on, every Monday morning, I love you. Thanks.”
--------------------------
Sleep wasn’t needed for this Hwan boy. The entire time he had simply stared at the area above him with his hands behind his head like a pillow, every once and a while his eyes would momentarily rest after burning. A loaf of bread was actually by his bedside thanks to Arabella and, early in the morning when he felt that he was fading into that awful dream world, he would reach for the food as energy. That also meant that he didn’t require breakfast, so as usual, he went straight to class as early as he could. He has noticed that he functions better in the very wake of dawn, or the closing mind of dusk.
Nothing exciting or eccentric happened during his little field trip through the campus and towards his Herbology class. Like, nothing at all. Which is interesting because usually he sees some first years scrambling about wildly, though, he figured people like Tegan were helping them out. Sliding into class the moment the door was unlocked, Jeong Hwan had positioned himself in the far left corner in the back. No one behind him, easy access to the door but not close enough to be victim of some stupid students prank if randomly to be flung through the doors, and on his preferred side in general. Looking over his left shoulder has proved a little painful as of recently, probably due to Clover, so with everything to his right was convenient.

Kaylynn had arrived in class much earlier than everyone had and she was alone for quite some time. Being early let her have a moment to herself and choose the seat she wanted to have for the rest of the year. Like normal she would choose one in the middle of it all. Why in the middle? It was just at the right angle that she could see the teacher, and being pressed close to the window also gave her a great view of the outside if the material being taught lacked any interest to her. Now that rarely happened but she sometimes liked to just day dream about things, getting lost in her thoughts.
Opening her book to the first few pages she began to skim the things they would be learning about in class this year. It seemed to be an interesting semester, but it all depended on what the professor would want to focus on. The study of ancient ruins wasn’t something she was making a habit of doing, but seeing the old items in her house and every else, it would be nice to be able to read them. Not to mention, you never knew when such knowledge would be handy. Perhaps the work would help further her career if nothing happened with the dragon studies she wanted to do.
Just thinking about dragons got Kaylynn excited about the future. Sure it was frightening to get out of the ordinary routine of coming to Hogwarts and taking classes; but it was a good scared. And that was saying something for her. She hated change mostly because it involved trying to talk to people she didn’t know very well, and when you have a habit of talking to things around you and just to yourself people normally already have their minds made up about you, from the rumors and things. But that would be different, hopefully once she was gone no one would remember that she was odd, they would just see that she was a smart women that had a passion for the creatures of the world. Even of the muggle world.
Kaylynn had been so focused on the book she had been skimming, and thoughts that plagued her mind that she hadn’t noticed someone sit in front of her before she jumped lightly looking up to see Mason. She opened her mouth to say something but closed right away before mumbling, “You can say hello to a friend, get it together.” Always talking to herself. If only it wasn’t out loud.
“Good morning Mason.” She breathed looking around the class for a moment before realizing most of the other students had already come in while she was engrossed in her book. Area was sitting in front of her as well and she had already begun to talk to the boy so she was probably not heard. Way to think on the positive side. “Did you get up late?” she asked indicating the toast he gorged himself on quickly before the teacher ratted on him for not being able to get something proper to eat that morning.
“Good morning Area, as well.” She mentioned not trying to be rude. Looking beside her to see if anyone had taken a seat there. But not to her surprise no one was there, but that didn’t bother her at the moment. It just meant she had more room for her stuff.
Now that was thinking on the positive side.

Mason hurried to catch his breath, only to have someone hug him. He raised his brows, turning to face the person. It was Aera. Apparently she was excited to see his face because she had been lonely. Clutching his shoulders, she proclaimed that she loved him on Monday mornings. Mason laughed, still catching his breath slightly, “Only on Mondays? I shall have to survive the other six days without your love, whatever shall I do?” He waved at a couple of their classmates for a moment. Mason laughed, “You know, it’s actually funny, I sat down so fast I didn’t even recognize you and you weren’t even disguised. Maybe this whole year I’m fated never to recognize you when I initially see you. I should get you a bell or a flashing neon sign or something.”
Mason scanned the room again. He knew everyone, as expected. He was not sure if transfers were an option at Hogwarts, but he would certainly be the first to know. It was a little bit of a shame there were no transfers. That would make life a little bit more exciting. Well, perhaps Ancient Runes would be exciting. That might be deceiving himself a bit. While it was certainly interesting, it was not exactly a subject to write home about. Unless you were writing home in Ancient Runes about something exciting. That would be something to send an owl for.
Mason turned around when he heard someone say his name. It was Kaylynn. He grinned, “Good morning to you too.” He nodded, “Yeah. Tegan told me to go to bed early and I didn’t listen to her and now I’m tired. I should’ve woken up earlier too. Or skipped breakfast. But that wasn’t really an option. I’m here on time though, so it all worked out. Except that third piece didn’t have any butter, so it was a bit dry. Hey, and I was earlier than that kid.” He gestured at the kid walking in with his chin. Still, class had yet to start, the professor seemed to be getting a bit of a late start as well. Or maybe just waiting until the students got all their greetings from the holiday out until she attempted to start class.
Mason asked Kaylynn, all the while pulling his belongings from his bag, “Did you sleep well? And get an early start too? Looks like you’ve been here a while?”
---
Tegan set numerous first years off to their classes. Some were very eager, while other seemed to be walking around in a haze. One actually walked away from Tegan’s help, practically whipping her ponytail in Tegan’s face. Ravenclaw. Hm. Perhaps she was too proud to admit that she needed help knowing her way. Or maybe she had a sudden urge to use the restroom. All Tegan knew was that the girl was not headed to the Ravenclaw class for this hour. Though she supposed the girl could be meeting a friend and was actually pacing around and trying not to look like she was waiting. Tegan understood that. Waiting could be difficult, especially for those uncomfortable with their own company. Tegan often tried to remind herself that chances were that no one else was paying attention to her, so there was no reason to be nervous about sitting alone waiting for someone. Although, in the heat of the moment, that advice was not always easy to follow.
Directing a few more students, many of whom were Hufflepuffs and very comfortable asking their housemate for help, Tegan was ready to go to class. She planned to be a few minutes early. Thus, she started to walk to class with nearly a quarter of an hour left. She could take a leisurely pace and still be there early enough to pick out a good seat and get settled before class.
Or so it would seem. That was until she got distracted. Tegan really did not mean to stop going to class. She was going to walk straight there. But then she encountered a clutch of first years looking distressed. They were shuffling between two doors, as if they were trying to decide between. They were a mix of Gryffindors and Ravenclaws. Brave to walk around by themselves without even attempting to seek guidance from a teacher or classmates. And they thought they were clever to try to find their own way. Not very effective so far. Though, Tegan was fairly confident their class was in this wing. Just not between these two doors. As she approached, she noted the Ravenclaw of the group pointing at a piece of parchment, apparently insisting on knowing the way. Tegan walked up, to the group, asking, “May I help you? You look lost.” The group seemed to argue amongst themselves about whether or not to take her help. Tegan held up a hand, “Actually, I will just inform you. Your class is about four doors that way. Have a wonderful first day.”
After that, she was only delayed once more, then she walked through the door. And she still managed to be there a few minutes early. Thank goodness, she had been a bit worried that she had been delayed longer than she thought and she would show up late on the first day of class. In a class she needed as much time in as she could get to succeed on her NEWTs.
Tegan glanced around the room, it was already relatively full. Well, about three-quarters full she supposed. A couple of her housemates were sitting together, Tegan waved, but that was no seating possibility. Of course, she knew everyone at least a little bit, so there was no real pressure. Not like in her first year when all faces were foreboding. Nowadays, she knew who she really needed to avoid. And she could pretty much count them on one hand. So otherwise she was safe.
Fingering the strap of her bag, Tegan surveyed her options again. She spotted Jax, sitting alone. He didn’t look like he was particularly lonely or waiting for someone to sit with him. Tegan figured it would be a good plan to sit with him, though he didn’t look exactly desperate for her company. They had all their classes together, so she might as well get to know him. More than their brief exchange on the train allowed.
Tegan sidled into the seat next to him, lowering her bag gently to the floor. She slid her textbook and other supplies out, placing them on the desk before her. Tegan grinned, “Good morning. I hope I am not disturbing you. How is your morning going? Are you excited to start the year?” She glanced around, Mason and Arabella had not arrived yet, but they would surely arrive shortly.

Jaxon hardly noticed as the class began to fill up around him. Though he had housemates in this class as well, they were not the ones he particularly made friends with so they made no effort to sit with him and instead would choose to sit with each other. Of course the people in other houses naturally sat with each other, and most people tended to avoid Jaxon and his resting bitch-face on the norm anyway. Not that he cared or minded. Since he found most people intolerable and idiotic anyway.
As he studied quietly alone, he barely noticed Tegan entering the room and coming up to his desk. He only looked up when she began to speak to him about disturbing him while she sat next to him. Then she proceeded to make friendly conversation. Great. He knew this would happen. By hanging around his sister, the people she hung around with suddenly became friendly with him. Though he thought Tegan and Kaylynn to be the most tolerable out of that little group. Besides, Tegan would be in all of his classes she could potentially save him from having a far more irritating desk mate.
"My morning is fine." The answer was short, but hey at least she got one. Remembering she also asked if he was excited to start the year he gave a slight shrug, "I suppose so. I can't say I'm too excited for all the studying I'll have to do." Of course he meant mostly for potions and herbology. His weaknesses. Not that he was about to tell her that he had to study particularly hard for those classes. Though he began to wonder if Tegan was any good in those subjects. If she was maybe he could get her to help him out. Discreetly of course. There was no way he would ask her straight out.
Deciding to be at least a little friendly to make the day a little more pleasant he returned the question, "What about you?" Again short and to the point, but hey he didn't normally socialize with people outside of his small circle. Unless he had to in the case of Ari making some new friends he didn't know yet.
