"So great dancer. Not very good with the kitchen. It's cool. You can rely on me to do what you can't do while we're married. Guess that's what I'm here for," he smiled as he took a bit of the chicken. He used the spatula to scoop some salad onto his plate and poured in the sesame oil dressing. He took a bite of the chicken and the salad, nodding in satisfaction. "Huh, not bad if I have to say so myself. Maybe I should become a chef," he joked taking a few more bites. He poured some more red wine into his glass and took a sip. He loved the taste and how it can magically calm down all his nerves. He was trying to smoothly get to know her without the awkward pauses and silence.
Ryder paused and slowly looked up at her when she started asking him questions. For once, he didn't have to start the conversation. It was a nice surprise. As he was playing with his chicken, he tried to remember the classes he signed up for. "Think I have three upper division business and econ classes. An upper division English class and some random art class Isabelle wanted me to take," he shrugged. He was almost done with everything he had to do to graduate. He only stayed one more year because of Isabelle.
"And you? What are you taking? Hey, speaking of you. Isn't it your birthday in two days? We should celebrate, come home early on that day. I got a surprise for you." He grinned cheekily. He always love doing things for others and it almost became a habit. Poking at the rest of his meals, he gulped it down with the red wine.
Suddenly, the door bell rang and Ryder frowned in confusion. "Your parents or something? Why would they visit us so late?" he asked as he walked over to open the door.
"Mom?" Ryder asked as he opened the door only to find Isabelle standing in front of it with her arms crossed. "Oh." He uttered trying to close the door before him but it was too late. She let herself in before he could even step out. He couldn't help but said the classic lines that guys who were caught cheating would have said.
"Look Isabelle. I can explain."
"No. You don't have the right to say that to me. Who's that?" she tried to keep her voice calm but she was on the verge of tears. "I cannot reach you. You didn't respond to my messages. I had to talk to your mother to find out that you're married? You couldn't even tell me yourself! You let your mother do the honors!"
Ryder could tell she was seething with anger. "No, you don't understand. She's just a friend, we don't have any feelings for each other. Right Dayne?" he asked holding Isabelle into his arms. "Honey, calm down. Let's talk," he stroked her back gently, mainly to keep her from going at Dayne. He looked at the girl and mouthed sorry.
"I was forced to marry her. But it'll be over, in six months. Our lives will be back to normal. Just you and me again. I promise," Ryder whispered gently, wiping the tears off her face. "Shhh, it's okay. I only have to endure this for six months. I'll figure everything out. Trust me. Nothing is going on with Dayne. She's just a family friend. You've met her before."
Isabelle turned to look at the girl. She did look familiar and she couldn't help but glare at the girl. "You're Dayne?" she asked pushing Ryder away. "What's your relationship with him? I want to know the truth."

Dayne took a bite of her chicken, followed by another drink of her red wine, funny how something so little could make her relax a little easier. But she knew she had to be careful, getting tipsy on the first dinner with her ‘husband’ was not on her to do list. Or was it ever on her to do list.
“Ah I guess I should have guessed you would be taking business classes considering your father and mother are in the business.” Dayne started listening to him, she had to admit she was quite surprised at his statement of art class, but everyone had a hobby. It just happened for her that her hobby was also her passion.
“I have a few English classes, getting my degree in old literature and quiet a few dance classes.” She paused shrugging. “I’ve often thought of taking an art course, haven’t really found the time to do such a thing though. Perhaps once school is done I will take a course.” She shrugged it off taking another bite of her food feeling slightly on the spot. He had gotten a surprise for her birthday? No one had done that before, she had her parents buy her things of course, but at home they didn’t really make a big deal; Birthdays were just a celebration of you being born it wasn’t a real point in your life, no accomplishments for you per say, perhaps to her mother for having to go threw labor but that wasn’t something any mother wants to really live every year.
“You really didn’t have too. “ Dayne said shaking her head eating another bite before the doorbell rang. “It’s not my parents I told them not to bother me for a while. I need to settle and them gawking over you is just annoying.” She mumbled hearing the screech of, who Dayne figured was Isabella. Great, this wasn’t going to work and she wasn’t good with conflict.
Silently Dayne watched the way they talked, and tried to not show how uncomfortable she was with this situation. “It’s true, we had no choice, you have nothing to fear from me.” Dayne said looking at Isabella. “Actually I met you both at a party a few months back, you were drunk out of your mind and Ryder spilled orange juice on my favourite sweater. I can assure you there is no attraction between me and him. And I doubt there ever will be.” She stood to her feet taking her plate to the sink.
“I’ll leave the two of you to your matters. Ryder, I promise to do my dishes in the morning.” She gave a little bow to be polite taking a box of her books and heading into the study were she could set them up.

Ryder cringed the moment Dayne said 'Drunk out of your mind' and immediately covered Isabelle's mouth before she did anymore damage. They had a good friendship thing setting up. He was able to take one step forward and get to know Dayne better but now it felt like he took twenty steps back. "Shh sweetie, calm down," he said easing her on the couch as Dayne left. "She was right, last time you met her, you drank a lot. Look it's not what you think. My parents gave me an ultimatum. I just have to pretend to marry her for a bit, live in the same house and then I'll figure the right time to leave," he explained. After reassuring and comforting her some more, Isabelle finally went home and left Ryder to clean up the whole mess alone.
Silently cleaning up the dishes, Ryder contemplated and let out a laugh. He couldn't even cry at his situation. He was like a twisted individual who couldn't cry even if someone dear to him passes away. Washing the dishes, he wanted everything to be clean before he head to the study room. There were a lot of documents he had to finish for his father's company as well as getting school out of the way.
"So no attraction between you and I?" Ryder said as he opened the study room door. "Are you sure about that? I don't make your heart flutter? Not at all?" he asked as he got closer to her. Laughing, he messed Dayne's hair with his hand and walked over to his table with the computer all set up. "Sorry about earlier, don't mind Isabelle. She wasn't always like this," Ryder said as he turned on the desktop as well as his laptop.
"So I'll see you for breakfast. Scramble eggs and toast sounds okay to you?" he asked typing away his password just as he turned on his phone with his other free hand. He looked at the screen noticing all the miss calls and the texts. Never turning off my phone now. What a pain. Ryder scanned through his messages and realized that there's a text from his dad.
'Son. Your mother and I decided to visit you and Dayne this weekend.' Sighing, Ryder tossed his phone on the table and started to work on his documents.

Dayne rolled over hugging the pillow she had decided was her new partner in the dance of sleep, close to her chest. She woke up at the sound of the alarm that she had set but she didn’t want to get up. For once in her life, she wanted to stay in her bed and not face what was outside. She hadn’t slept well that night, having another person beside you—a man, you did not know—makes it hard to sleep.
Not to mention, her brain was thinking about the day before, he was going on about her being attracted to him, and his weird girlfriend. The way he had mentioned a statement—a statement that wouldn’t leave her mind either. ‘She wasn’t always like this.’ Why would Ryder say it like that? Had something changed? And what was it? Perhaps she was being nosy, or perhaps she blamed it on her re-reading the Sherlock books. It was probably the latter.
In a state of drowsy Dayne sat up rubbing her eyes and looking at the time, she was early still, and she could hear cooking—was he really awake? From the smell of the food he was. Odd, she had told him to stay in bed yesterday but from the place beside her it seemed like he hadn’t been in it at all, or for a little time. Could be that he was awake for awhile, but he went to bed later then her sense she had no homework, and after unpacking she was dreadfully tired.
Going into the shower she hurried and did hher normal, everyday things. Washed her hair, her body. Everything was the same other then the shower was different, and the smell of food was oddly interesting. She wasn’t really hungry and the carbs she didn’t really need. She had had wine the night before and that was enough for practically a week.
Drying her hair she put it up In a stylish ponytail, did her make up simple yet elegant and came out into the kitchen.
“I told you that you didn’t have to make me breakfast.” Dayne repeated looking at Ryder.

Ryder went to bed late yesterday, probably around two or three in the morning. This morning he had to wake up early to make her breakfast which almost caused him to fall over due to sleep deprivation. He was stumbling and walking into the bathroom, trying to wash up once he got arrived slowly. Putting on a shirt since he didn't sleep with one, he put it on and headed to the kitchen. He grabbed a glass of water and slowly figured out what he wanted to make for breakfast.
Exhausted, Ryder manage to cook up sunny side eggs and toast. He wasn't sure if she wanted waffles which he'll ask later before making them. Pouring the orange juice in a cup, he prepared two buttered toasts with eggs and sausages. Putting them on the table just as she came into the kitchen.
"Look who's awake. Morning sunshine," he grinned pulling out her chair for her. "How was your sleep?" asked Ryder as he put his breakfast down as well. Sitting down, he looked across the table at her with a smile. "So how is it? What are your plans for today?" he asked trying to be polite.
"Oh that's right, your birthday is tomorrow! Come home early. After 5 and before 6, sounds good? Give me all of your evening."

“Sleep was….Well interesting.” Dayne said being completely honest with him as she took her seat, realizing she apparently had no say in the matter of him making her eat. She would just eat very little at lunch, that way she wouldn’t have to worry about it as much.
“Oh and um morning.” Dayne added taking a bite of the eggs and drinking some of the orange juice he had poured for her. It felt weird to have a guy do all this for her. In all the books she had read guys only played this role when they had had sex the night before, and she was pretty sure that had not happened. “Oh, I have Classic Literature from 9-12, then from 2-6 I have my dance classes.” She explained eating another bite of the food. It was actually really good –she only wished it wasn’t so fattening for her.
“Alright, I’ll be here…” Dayne said standing to her feet and bringing her dishes to the sink. “I’ll come home from 12-1:30. I’ll give the dishes a clean then, that way you can….get some more sleep.” She passed smirking a little. “Uh thanks I’ll see you later.” She gave a wave before heading out the door quickly.
January 3, 2015
The two days went by quickly, and surprisingly Dayne hadn’t wanted to kill Ryder yet. Yet was the magic world and as she neared the condo where she lived she couldn’t help but feel utterly nervous. What was he planning on doing for her birthday? He hardly knew her, did he have a bunch of his friends over so she could mingle and be a normal person? The utter thought made her palms sweat. She would have to wait, and open the door she just hopped it wouldn’t be to…frightening.

"Dance classes, those gotta be fun," he grinned as he ate his food. Breakfasts always make him a lot more livelier than he should be since he got approximately four hours of sleep. "Oh don't worry, I'll do the dishes. Can't have you be doing things when it's so close to your birthday. Have fun at school," Ryder said waving as she left for school. It felt weird that he was doing things he would be doing for his girlfriend or family but right now, he supposed she is in a way his family member.
He cleaned up the dishes and headed back to bed right after. What was an exhausted man to do when he couldn't even keep his eyes open?
January 3rd, 2015
The moment he opened his eyes, he was already working on doing a small celebration. He didn't want to make it awkward with his friends and since he didn't know any of their friends, he basically invited no one but himself. He thought it was a good idea since Ryder did want to get to know her better. They were going to live with each other for half a year until he figures something out. When she left, he hurried to get her cake and he didn't know what she wanted so he got her a mocha cake since if she doesn't like it, at least he'll eat it.
He grabbed the candles with the cake and headed back to his car. He knew it wasn't suppose to be romantic but at least he could like her as a friend. Getting her nineteen blue roses which represent mystery and intrigue for he wants to get to know her better and to him, she's a mystery he wants to uncover as weird as that sounds. Running his hand through his hair, he scanned through his to do list on his phone with his other free hand. This was going to take a while. He didn't know what to get her as a present so he got her two items and hopefully she liked at least one of them. The new limited edition ballet shoes he found online before they were sold out. The silver Tiffany bracelet with her name engraved and a rose next to it. It wasn't a ring since that meant something more, Ryder thought a bracelet would a neat jewelry she could wear when she goes out. Once he got home, he wrapped the presents and placed them neatly next to the cake. The roses were neatly surrounding the circumference of the cake. He started making dinner for them which was lighter in calories in consideration for her diet.
When dinner was done, he placed the two glasses of wine on the table and lighted the candles just a little bit before it hits six. Everything was at its right spot and he looked a little bit disarrayed but it was fine. Holding his guitar, Ryder waited until she came home. The moment he heard a click, he started to strum his guitar.
"Oh, her eyes, her eyes Make the stars look like they're not shinin' Her hair, her hair Falls perfectly without her trying She's so beautiful And I tell her everyday Yeahh
I know, I know When I compliment her she won't believe me And it's so, it's so Sad to think that she don't see what I see But every time she asks me "Do I look okay? " I say When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change 'Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile The whole world stops and stares for a while 'Cause girl you're amazing Just the way you are Yeah"
He sang, that's right, Ryder could sing his heart out and singing with the guitar was one of his passion that he delves in when he isn't too busy with work. "Happy Birthday Dayne. Thanks for letting me in," he grinned cheekily. "I promise, I will make this the best six months of your life." Putting his guitar away, Ryder walked up to her and enclosed her into a hug.
"I know it's only been a few days but thanks for putting up with me. I made you dinner. Oh! Blow out the candles!"

With the door open Dayne heard the sudden sound of a male voice, she could hardly believe it when it was coming from the guy who she had barely known for a few days. And he was singing words she hadn’t heard slip the tongue of any human being, only the people in her head who pushed her forward told her the words he was saying. Biting her bottom lip she stood awkwardly her hand to her mouth, listening and the door closing behind her.
“You really didn’t have to do this…” Dayne said breathless looking around the condo and back to him. He had a cake, even two gifts. Why was he being so nice to him? She thought he wanted her out of his life as soon as possible, she even thought he would be trying his hardest to make her leave on her own.
“No one has ever…” she bit her lip putting her bag on the floor before joining him by the birthday cake. The blue roses, and just him being so…utterly sweet. Was this normal? “Alright, I guess I should make a wish then?” she joked lightly closing her eyes and wishing privately a wish no one would ever guess. Once made she blew them out leaving one up. She blew it out quickly before looking at him.
“Why, are you doing all this for me? I know it’s not my place to say, but shouldn’t this kind of thing be reserved for your…girlfriend? I mean I guess I am your wife in the matter of the sense…” she paused looking at the roses with an embarrassed smile. “They are really beautiful though…” trailing off she tucked a hair behind her ear and fell silent she wasn’t sure what to say at that moment. Awkward silence at such a special occasion?
“How’d you know blue is my favourite colour?” Dayne piped in finally after a moment of gathering her thoughts.

Ryder chuckled as he sat down next to her. "Don't tell anyone your wish if you want it to come true," he winked as he pushed the presents towards her. He knew he didn't have to do it but he did and somewhere inside of him, he was naturally a flirt and liked making females happy. He shrugged when she mentioned his girl friend. "I did it for Isabelle the first year we dated," he merely comment. "But then she didn't like all the cheesiness so I stopped but I figured you were a romantic at heart," he teased. "Reading Shakespeare and all."
The silence afterwards almost killed him until she piped up again. He pursed his lips when she asked him about her favorite color and made a face. "And that's a secret, I'll never tell," Ryder laughed and nudge her. "Come on, lighten up. It's your birthday. Open the presents. Hopefully you like them, I honestly don't know what females like," he urged her excitedly like a little kid. He always love buying gifts for others and seeing the smile on their face. It was something he did for his family, his girl friend, and his close friends. He stood up to fill up a vase he bought earlier with water. Putting the roses in the vase, he grabbed out and put it near her face for comparison.
"Honestly, I didn't know what your favorite color was but now I do. A blue rose stands for mystery and intrigue. You intrigue me, Dayne. You're a wonderful girl yet you always keep to yourself. You should speak your mind more," he finally explained the meaning of his gifts. Putting the rose back into the vase, he folded his arms.
"So how did I do? Dinner and then cake? We also have to do this tradition I do on everyone's birthday afterwards."

Dayne wasn’t about to tell anyone her wish, that was between her and the candles that had been blown out. And like her dreams, they would be blown out when it came to her wish. Pushing that away she took the present into her hands and looked at him with a small smile. “Your like a big kid,” she said lightly, not meaning it in a bad way. It was a good statement, being so eager to give her a gift—two in fact—was something special.
Taking the first gift she unwrapped it and blinked pulling the bracelet with her name engraved on it. “It’s beautiful..” she whispered looking at him shocked that he would go to such lengths for her. Birthdays must be something he really enjoyed. She would have to figure out what to do for his birthday once it came up. Before she opened the second one she put it on and smiled again lightly, how could anyone not like a cheesy, romantic boyfriend? He was trying to be nice and you should appreciate what people did. Isabella was a lucky girl maybe.
Taking the second gift she opened it and pulled out limited edition ballerina shoes. Dayne had actually seen them before online, and thought about ordering them but she didn’t have the money at the time, so she thought better of it.
“You sure know how to make someone feel…special.” Dayne whispered before looking at Ryder and deciding, against her best judgment to give him a hug. It was a friendly hug, she didn’t linger to long. And after it she felt even more embarrassed about the whole thing.
“Thank you Ryder, thank you for all of this.” Dayne hadn’t thought about her speaking more, she was pretty blunt when it came to some things, it was why she couldn’t get people to talk and listen to her.

He shrugged, "I hear that a lot from friends. My demeanor generally scares people away the first meeting." Ryder laughed, if he was trying, he was a lot nicer and less serious than he usually was around school. Rocking the chair back and forth, he waited for her to unwrap her gifts. He didn't know what to get her and assuming she was a ballerina, she might have wanted to try on different shoes since girls like shoes...at least most of them do. "You like them?" he asked as she put them on. "Oh thank god. I was worried you wouldn't like them." He took a sip of wine as he waited for her to take our her second gift. Usually Isabelle would tell him not to be so cheesy even though he knew that she loves everything he gets her.
"Dayne, you are special. Don't let anyone tell you less," he said mindlessly picking on the dinner he prepared for them. After all that time, he finally got hungry. I don't think I ate anything for lunch. Hoping she was engrossed with her gift, he poked at the pasta he made and started to eat the shrimp ahead. When she spoke again, Ryder put his fork down and took a sip of his red wine.
"Hey. Happy 19th Birthday. Now I won't feel like such an old man next to you," he laughed. When they finally settled down to eat dinner, Ryder was already half way done with his.
"So, girls dream about their wedding when they were little. What's your idea of a perfect wedding?"

“Why wouldn’t I? A bracelet and ballet shoes? You went over what my parents even do, and they are family.” Dayne paused looking down at the bracelet once more smiling mindlessly. This was a great birthday, she was expecting him to have a party and it was just a quiet affair, that made it much more pleasing. As she thought about, she should really be surprised. He said at the party she first bumped into him that he wasn’t to found of large get together. Who knew they had at least one thing in common.
“Thank you. Again.” Smirking she took a sip of the wine before laughing lightly. “I’m not that much younger than you am I? I can’t believe I didn’t even ask what your age was…” Dayne couldn’t help but feel a little sheepish with that assumption, she thought he was about her age but perhaps he was a few years older then her.
He was a senior after all, it should have clicked in her mind.
Absentmindedly she started to pick at her food eating it and enjoying every bite—it was her birthday and she was going to enjoy life pleasures. At least this ONE time.
“What?” she asked looking up from her food at his question, she could hardly believe the question, and she didn’t really want to admit that she hadn’t really thought about marriage at all. Perhaps a little when she was young. Pondering it a moment she shrugged slightly embarrassed.
“I can’t really say I thought about it much, when I was little I wanted to get married on a beach somewhere quiet and alone. I thought it would be romantic, kinda lame I guess.” She paused looking at him. “That is a really random question, I don’t think anyone has ever asked me that before.”

"I'm twenty two," he said, realizing that she didn't know his age. "Senior and all, can't wait to graduate. Was thinking of getting my masters but now, I'm not so sure about my graduate plans." Not with you in the picture. He hoped he could solve this situation in six months. If not, they were going to be stuck with each other for a very long time. "You're only three years younger, it's not too bad," he smirked. "Don't worry, I don't prey on younger girls."
Thinking about her answer, he shrugged, he supposed it was all female's answer. Some liked it really quiet on the beach or somewhere quite romantic like on the yacht. "I was just curious to see what females where thinking in their intricate brains," he smirked.
Ryder laughed and finished up his food. Holding out a knife, he handed it to her. "Come on, you have to cut the cake first. I'll take pictures," he held out his iphone with a grin. Of course they were going to take pictures, it's memories and all.

“I guess you would be able to graduate pretty soon.” Dayne paused eating a few more bites of her homemade dinner and enjoying the taste before he commented and she had to roll her eyes. Course he didn’t, people don’t prey on the girl who doesn’t have a social life. Who stays home and makes sure to get her homework, and dances under the sky more then doing anything else. People were nothing but trouble and didn’t have any respect for others feelings.
“Don’t ask me I hardly understand females and I am one.” Dayne commented taking another sip of wine before deciding it was time to stop before she did anything she regretted in the morning. “I don’t like pictures though.” She frowned taking the knife and looking at the cake then up at him again.
“One picture but you can’t post it on facebook or anything. Promise?” she said before looking at him and smiling shyly, this wasn’t a good picture. She didn’t take good pictures not when she had to pose—dancing pictures, well her’s were pretty good if she had to admit.

He laughed, "You girls are complicated. I get into trouble for no reason sometimes." Holding up his wine glass, he took a sip before clicking the camera screen. "It's fine. You look great. Just one picture!" he exclaimed as he tried to position his phone. Looking at the perfect angle when she slice the cake, he clicked the snap button and grinned. "Perfect. Promise, no facebook or anything," Ryder smirked. Putting his phone on the table, he got closer to her and slowly took the knife from her. He started to cut it in half and cut her a small piece as well as one for himself.
His movements were quick as he turned around to look at her. "Are you ready for this tradition? You're going to love it." His arm sudden wrapped around her waist with a mischievous smile on his face. "You look beautiful, Dayne," he whispered as he got closer to her face. His free hand stroked her cheeks for a moment before he spoke. "Really beautiful. But you'd look even better with..."
With that, he grabbed the half of the cake he cut and lightly smashed it against her face. He slid the rest of it down her body and stopped at her stomach. Letting the plastic plate dropped on the ground, Ryder's shoulder shook with laughter. Calming himself down, he wiped a piece of cake from her cheeks with his fingers and plopped it in his mouth. "It's a good cake, and it's all yours," he winked. "I'll clean up tomorrow. I'm beat, gonna head to bed earlier tonight."
With that, he grabbed his phone and hurried out before she killed him with a knife. This was a great tradition.
