Bess shook her head as she listened to the two younger ones bicker at her back, but not without a smile. They were always close, because of their age, and even though they liked to argue with one another, that always put a smile on everyone's faces. And they were good kids. Actually, everyone in the airship are good kids, with a few exceptions of troublemakers, but they all got along well enough not to try to wake up killing each other. Even Mark meant no harm despite his seemingly cold treatment towards Hans and maybe a very heated treatment towards Cass. Hans probably changed the most, among all. He was so much more cheerful nowadays, as compared to when he was a little boy, so scared and fragile. Though... Bess could not quite yet forget what had happened that one time. They all had a talk with Lucas about this back then, but it was still a little traumatic. Most of them were still worried about that one time, but many seemed to think of it as Hans' other counterpart that just didn't resurface anymore after that. After all, they were only kids and Hans was just seemed so innocent. Plus, Anna was taking care of him well. That girl always seemed to know best what Hans needed, and if anything, she was the one who contributed the most to his changes and his confidence. Thinking about how much they all changed throughout this few years made her spaced out a little and she didn't even notice that Kim was still in the kitchen with her until she posed another one of her riddles. Instead of pushing her off like she usually would though, Bess thought maybe it would be good for her to answer once in a while. After all, the girl loved her riddles as much as Bess loved cooking, and if someone would nag everytime Bess cooks, she'd probably hate it too. "Let me see. The third person might have... I don't know, built a fence near some walls so that he can save one side of the fence?" She knew she was wrong, but being older sometimes means putting yourself down so that the young ones could be proud of who they are. That, and Bess was bad at riddles herself. Most of the time she didn't even really understand what she's trying to convey in her answers. By then, Greg had returned from summoning the others. "I've done my job, Bess! Can I start eating now?" Greg said, peeking into the kitchen from the outside. He noted how Kim was still in there, probably just lingering around for lunch to happen. Bess placed all the dirty pots and pans that she had used by the basin, and began to wash her hands, before rubbing it dry against the dry cloth hanging by the wall. "Get everyone on the table and then you can have that chicken." "Whaaaat. Bess, you're such a slave driver," Greg grumbled as he turned away from the kitchen and walked towards the dining table, sitting down and waiting on the others. Bess merely smiled softly at his words and turned to Kim, as she put her apron away. "Lets go to the dining room too, Kim." Mark walked beside Cass as they began to head to the kitchen. Arguing with Cass was a routine for himself, and probably for her too. Though it usually annoys him to see her around cause when she was around, she would usually be seen with Hans, which irked him further. But being able to walk with her like this, alone, made him a little happier than he thought he would be. Some of Cass's remarks were lost as he thought about the fact that he was now alone with her, which left a little red mark on his face. When he snapped himself back to reality, it embarrassed him a little that he couldn't think of something to reply to her, and that was like a sign of losing, which he didn't quite enjoy. But before he could come up with a quick comeback, Kelly joined the duo. Her belly was getting bigger and bigger, Mark noted. She was already pregnant for 8 months, and for almost all of the orphans in the airship, this would probably be the first time they would witness a childbirth, so most of them were excited about it. Even Mark himself was excited about it, though he tried to hide it most of the time. But, much to the children's fear, Kelly's pregnancy made her grumpier than usual. All of them knew how she was only fierce to her husband but extremely nice to the kids, but now that she's pregnant, she's nothing different from a tiger ready to prance on her preys, and that is any kids who dared to be naughty. But because of that, the amount of troublemaking inside the airship got fewer and fewer these recent months. Even now, though, Mark knew better than to say anything, noting the salient frown Kelly had on her forehead. She must be mad about something about, probably at James again. So irritated that she didn't even notice Cass and Mark walking behind her. And though faintly, Mark could hear her cursing beneath her breath, and he could make out a few words like "dead" and "James". Finally when they arrived in the dining room, he noted how Greg was already sitting there, waiting for food. At that sight, Mark merely rolled his eyes away, though at the same time he was grateful how he managed to escape Kelly's raging moments. Kelly merely made a turn to the kitchen, and nearly bumped into Bess and Kim when they were making their way out. "Bess, how long has it been since James and Lucas went out?" She asked, not in a worried tone but a rather irritated one. Even Bess, the most obedient and mature among the orphans, was intimidated by the state Kelly was in now. "Umm, they should probably be back around evening? That's what they said when they left early this morning," said Bess while trying to protect the baby as Kelly didn't seem to be cautious about her own body. Kelly merely took in a deep breath and sighed, nodding her head as she muttered a soft 'thanks'. "Let's have lunch then. Where are the other kids?" Kelly noted how not all of them were at the table yet, and of course that further irritated her. Greg could sense the looming dangers, and he confirmed that the others felt it too as he made eye contact with Kim, Cass, Bess and even Mark. "We'll go get them here now, Kelly! So you should just sit down and we'll be back in a while!" Bess quickly tried to save everyone around as she gave Kim a light push on her back, and gestured for the others to do the same. Greg quickly hopped off the chair and ran to the kids' playroom to grab the younger ones out. After helping Kelly to the dining table, Bess quickly left to call for Miss Hutcherson who was probably working with her indoor garden (sorry couldn't think of anything else xD; . As everyone left to save themselves, Mark decided to do the same, though it irritated him that he would have to go back to where he came from again. "I'll go get Anna and...Hans," he said softly, only intending for Cass to hear himself. He hesitated even as he muttered his name to Cass. He never liked bringing up Hans in front of Cass at all. (I didn't talk about Hans and Anna cause I thought there's nothing much to talk about them yet, until they actually met Mark, and Cass if she decided to follow. I didn't really know what to write after stopping for so long so I just went along with the flow and made the grumpy Kelly the main focus for now. xD And aww! I want Kelly's child to be born now! Also, feel free to bring Lucas and James back early if you want! Would be fun to see a little James-Kelly interaction, haha. And I remembered that I actually planned for Lucas to actually die at one point in the RP, and that's when Cass probably will begin to change, and the RP will probably take a darker turn at that point. But we'll see as we go. :3 GAH, SO NOSTALGIC THIS RP IS.)

Kim hopped eagerly from foot to foot when Bess actually started to think of an answer to the riddle. This was so exciting! Bess hardly ever guess at her riddles, so this was a rare experience. Not to mention the fact that Bess was so nice about it. She wasn’t yelling at Kim for asking riddles right now. And she might actually try a real answer instead of some sassy one as Mark often did.
Kim settled herself a little bit. She was 14 years old, maybe hopping like a little kid was not the best. Although, Kim did have to admit, she still had so much energy, like when she was little. Kim still liked running around and goofing off. She even played with the littler kids sometimes. Not just because she had to take care of them because someone told her too, but because they were funny. And they liked riddles. Well, they liked stupid jokes more than riddles, but Kim knew plenty of jokes too. She saved the harder riddles for the bigger kids. Since it wouldn’t make them cry not to get the right answer.
Although, speaking of running around, Greg was still just as energetic as she was. And he was only a year younger. His voice was still loud and he hopped around like an idiot too. So maybe she was not too crazy for still being exuberant on occasion.
Kim shook her head at Bess’ answer. That was an interesting idea. Because then they only had to build some of the fence and save space. Kim said, “Nope! Good guess though.” She paused a minute, like she was going to let Bess guess again. But she was actually waiting for Greg to plow through. She had seen him coming through the doorway and knew it was not the best idea to interrupt him. Especially since he was working, and she was asking a riddle.
Still, Kim obediently followed Bess into the dining room. She didn’t want to push her luck after being late. She felt a bit bad about that. Not bad enough to apologize. But maybe bad enough not to get so lost in thought next time. Maybe even come a minute or two early. That way she didn’t have to say anything about being late, but she would make up for it a little bit.
Kim told Bess quickly, before someone else could interrupt, “I’ll tell you. The guy built a fence just around himself. And then, then he said that he was standing on the outside of the fence and everything else in the whole world was standing inside!” Kim beamed, “It’s perspective, see? ‘Cause it’s like he made a fence for himself but he just said that it was a fence to keep everything else in. That’s so smart. He deserves a million dollars for guessing that.”
Cass smirked when Mark was at a loss for words. He realized that he was being an idiot about it too. Or maybe he was just in such denial that he couldn’t think of anything to say because he was busy trying to think of excuses for himself. Regardless, Cass counted it in her mind as a victory.
Before Mark could change her mind and before she could gloat in her victory, Kelly walked in front of them. It appeared she was headed to lunch as well. Perhaps it was all the better that they weren’t in the kitchen, where they might be in front of her. It was possible that she would release her wrath on the first person she spotted in front of her.
Kelly seemed to be one of those people who had a rather uncomfortable pregnancy. She went from being friendly to most everyone and picking on James to being quite belligerent. Kelly was horrifying on a bad day. Even Cass tried to steer clear of her. Especially, since she was so, well, pregnant. Cass imagined every inch of her body was just itching to toss that baby out and have sweet, sweet freedom.
So for two reasons, Cass was eager for the baby to be born. One reason was it might settle Kelly’s spirit a little bit. With that baby out of her she might be a bit more comfortable. Although, she could still be cranky from sleep deprivation. Unfortunately, Cass knew many of the little details about babies and childbirth. As part of the apparently necessary “talk” teenagers girls are forced to endure upon puberty. That had been miserable. And unpleasant. And Cass really hadn’t cared to learn about where babies come from and why people should be careful before deciding to have babies because babies hurt. She had just wanted to know why she was bleeding. Although, that chat had served to soothe Cass about the blood. At least she hadn’t been pregnant, she had thought at the time. She was much more horrified of ever being in Kelly’s situation. Though babies were awfully cute, so it might we worth it, at some point, Cass imagined. Just not any time in her near future.
The other reason Cass was excited was simply because there was going to be a baby. Cass had never really seen a baby up close. Sure, she had seen some on the streets. But most of the kids the airship took in were old enough to talk and walk. Not the same as a brand new baby. Cass imagined it would be precious. And so tiny. Although, the way Kelly’s stomach bulged, Cass thought it must be bigger than everyone’s descriptions of what size a baby is. Kelly was so swollen, Cass imagined the baby had to be relatively large.
As much as Mark annoyed her usually, Cass couldn’t help but glance over him, her expression saying how glad she was not to be in Kelly’s warpath right now. Cass was careful not to make any actual noise though. That might put her right on the warpath.
As Mark and Cass trailed after Kelly, they heard the conversation regarding Lucas and James. Of course they were out. They were always out. Saving people. Doing all the real work. Not that Cass wanted to run into danger, but there was no use in all of them hiding away up here while James and Lucas did everything else. Cass wanted to help. Not just help Lucas and James, but the people too. It was rather frustrating to be cooped up inside all the time. At least she got relief helping on the ratlines or loading food and other supplies onto the airship. That gave her a brief break from the indoor air.
But then an urgency filled the air. Pregnant Kelly was hungry and no one else was there to eat. Horrifying. The youngest two quickly scampered out, only needing a little prompting from Bess to get the heck out of there. Bess was soon after them, heading to fetch Miss Hutcherson presumably. Greg had gone off in the direction of the playroom. And Kim went towards the room where the kids who thought they were much too mature for the playroom were. She would probably grab the adults too, since they were usually around the same area.
That left only Hans and Anna. Which Cass remarked as fantastic until Mark claimed them. That was going to leave Cass alone in the dining room with Kelly. No way on this earth. Cass firmly placed a hand between Mark’s shoulder blades and pushed him back through the door ahead of her. She had walked in ahead of him and there was no getting out unless he went first. Cass agreed, “Me too.”
Cass sighed once they were out of Kelly’s earshot. What a relief. She said, “Well, back where we just were it seems. Better than in there though.” She was trying for nice. Or at least friendly. That would give Mark a chance to try out his new attitude about her group. And yes, she considered the kids she had stayed in the city her group. Even if they were part of a much larger group now. They were still her family. In a different sense from everyone else, who were also family.
Cass started back towards Hans’ and Anna’s training room. They were probably still there, as they usually worked right up until lunch.

((Yeah, Cass tagged along because there was no way she was staying with grumpy!Kelly. Who I love by the way. I'm excited for the baby!!
I might drag them in towards the end of lunch. Or maybe earlier depending on how this goes. What's crazy about this RP is it takes us 90,000,000 years to move on from one specific scene. So it's like they're at lunch for AGES when it's really only an hour tops.
LUCAS?! I'm so sad. Cass'll be sad. And that makes me sad. But I almost want to see dark, broken Cass who's just a ball of sadness and gr. Then there could be some bonding because Cass is never the sad one. She's usually the one helping the sad one.
It's so nostalgic and BEATIFUL!! I missed it sosososo much))

(Hohohohoho. I have an idea in mind for this post. Let's see how it will work out. xD)
Greg didn't take long. He had to literally drag the younger bunch out of the playroom one by one. And when they were out of the playroom they'd make a fool out of him and ran back in. Somehow, as much as it irritated him, it actually reminded him of himself and how he thought Cass and Bess must have felt back then. Probably as annoyed as he is now, if not more. "You guys! I have no time to be standing here like this. My life is at stake here, you know. Who knows when Kelly's gonna explode? GAH YOU BRATS!" Greg raised his voice at the end of his utterances, but to no avail. The kids, in fact, were having more fun with him losing his patience. They ran around him with their toys and filling the corridor with their laughter.
It was then when Alice walked out of the playroom after tidying things up, and she noted how messy things were outside in the corridor. She thought that the children were already following Greg back to the dining room, but of course, they were playing around him instead. She also heard what Greg said about Kelly and she knew then that he was in quite of a pinch. "Kids! Let's all go have lunch together, and then after that we can all go down to the observatory deck to look outside to see if we can find Uncle Lucas and Uncle James. Jack told me that it's fine to go there today cause the weather is good," Alice said with her gentle and soft voice, with a soothing smile that would calm even the most worked up child. The children, upon hearing Alice's words, were too happy to stay in the same spot, and they all began to cheer as they ran to the dining room.
Greg could only turn to Alice with a sigh. "Sometimes you amaze me with your patience, Alice. But, I am surprised that Jack actually let the children go down to the observatory deck. He was always so cautious about letting anyone of us be in there for even five minutes," said Greg as he began to make his way towards the dining room with Alice. Alice merely giggled softly at his words as she walked beside him. "Nah, Jack never said anything about letting the kids in there."
Greg paused for a moment there and turned to stare at the smiling girl. "Wait, so... There's no observatory deck after the meal then?"
"Of course not. Jack would never let these children in unless Lucas says it's fine. And without Lucas here there's no way the kids can go. Besides, the children know that. They were just hungry and that's why they decided to head to the dining room," replied Alice, still with the smile on her face. Despite her smile and what she just smiled, Greg knew better than to take things at face value. Alice somehow took after Kelly in some ways. The children fear her as much as they love her. Even though she was an extremely shy girl few years back, apparently she can be as scary as a tiger when the children were disobedient.
When Greg and Alice finally got back to the kitchen, they could see a very noisy dining room that holds two large dining tables. One for the adults and the older kids and one for the younger ones. Bess and Miss Hutcherson were already sitting on the adults table, talking with Kelly and hoping to ease her irritation. Alice was turning around to look for Jack but no signs of him yet. Greg looked over to the children's table and sighed. He was pretty annoyed about the fact that he was still seated in the children's table. Only Kim and himself were left there, and every other mature adults like himself were seated on the adults' table. But he got bored of constantly arguing to be seated in the adults' table, and especially not now when Kelly's mood was still so unstable.
Mark wasn't sure if he wanted Cass to follow him. He was partially expecting her to follow him since she wouldn't have anywhere else to escape to, what with Kelly being impatient in the dining room and all that. But that would mean she would get to talk to Hans again as they walk from the training room to the dining room. Cass's next words were pretty friendly, so to speak, and for some reason Mark felt a little nervous at the thought of having a friendly chat with her. They never really had any decent conversation since they knew each other. Maybe only once or twice, and Mark greatly enjoyed those moments, despite how tiring they ended up making him to be. But leaving the silence there for too long would make it more awkward, so he simply blurted out a response.
"Yeah I guess so."
And then it was silent between the two of them for the next few seconds, which seemed like hours to Mark. They were almost halfway through to the training room. If he wanted to talk to Cass alone he could only do it now before Hans and Anna joined in. And there was no way he would have a three way talk with Hans and Cass. "Hey, Cass."
He didn't even notice that he called out for her until a few moments later. He felt as if someone else put himself in an unpleasant situation and ran away leaving him alone, laughing at him. Letting the conversation die there would probably be worse and there was no way his pride would let him do that. He had to say something, fast. Something not stupid. Perhaps...
"Cass, do you...hate me?" This time he wasn't blurting things out, though admittedly he wasn't being fully honest with himself. He was partially aware of his crush on her, though he didn't like to admit it. He knew full well that Cass, in turn, had a huge crush on Lucas but somehow that didn't bother him as much. Maybe cause he knew that as cruel as it is, it was a one-sided love. But Hans, he could take her away, and Mark didn't want that.
Hans was chatting with Anna about their training session that morning and the little mistakes he did here and there that he should improve on. But at the corner of the corridor he could hear a male's voice, which sounded like Mark's. "Oh, do you think we're late for lunch?" He asked Anna, guessing that maybe Mark and possibly Cass were making their way to get himself and Anna to lunch.
(SOOOO NEAR TO A CONFESSION. But I decided that it was still too early. xD You can have Anna and Hans interrupt them halfway through Cass's reply if you want. That's why I left it hanging there. And lol yes, I agree about how slow our RP moves. xDDD I mean, everyone is so fun to RP though! Like every one of them has different personalities and perks and that makes it so much fun!)

Kim was quickly able to gather the older group. They were hardly as troublesome as the little children. When they were hungry, they were eager to run to lunch without all the fuss. Thus, Kim was able to bound along ahead of them, explaining how angry Kelly had been to find the dining room empty. She was telling them partially because it was an amusing story. Angry pregnant Kelly stories were rather popular. Provided that Kelly was nowhere near when the stories were told. Otherwise that was dangerous territory. But Kim was also warning them to behave themselves by the time they got to the dining room.
When Kim got to the dining room, everyone seemed to heed Kim’s advice. They acted as normally as usual, but they kept from getting too close to Kelly or doing anything that might offend her. It also seemed that Kim had beaten Greg back. He had probably gotten busy fighting with the little kids. They liked to antagonize Greg. Because he was hysterical when he was angry. He shouted and got flustered. And little kids live off that stuff. Even Kim took some time on occasion to annoy Greg. All in good fun though. Kim was pretty sure she had never really crossed the line into actually upsetting him. At least, she hoped she hadn’t. It would be a shame to offend him without even trying.
Kim avoided the currently unoccupied kids’ table. Sure, she would have to sit down there eventually, but she was not about to be the lone person at the table. Kim was at least going to wait for Greg, the only other older figure at the kids table. Kim had a suspicion that they were still demoted because there was simply no room for them to move up. Cass and Hans had started sitting at the adult table when they were about 13, so Kim felt slighted by her current state at the kids’ table. If only because she wanted to be considered a grown up like Bess.
But, she figured she might miss sitting at the kids table if she left. Kim really did like the kids. They were funny and energetic. And they laughed at all her jokes. And they were always smiling it seemed, ready for the next joke or the next prank. Maybe the adult table wasn’t really where she wanted to be yet. Just in theory.
Anyway, since no one was even at the kids’ table right now, Kim fluttered about the outskirts of the adults’ table. She didn’t get close enough to possibly incur Kelly’s wrath, but she stayed near enough to hear the conversations. Most of them were boring. Problems on the bridge. A ratline that needed retied. How well Miss Hutcherson’s carrots were growing. All of it was dull! Maybe she had spoken too soon about the adults’ table. Incredibly boring. She and Greg had more fun in their toes than these people had in their whole bodies! Usually they were laughing and doing something interesting, not this boring stuff. Maybe it only looked fun looking in. And all the adults were actually really bored with the adults’ table too. And they were saving Kim and Greg from the boredom as long as they possibly could.
Kim saw Greg and Alice walk in, with the little kids in tow. The volume in the room nearly doubled. A couple of the kids ran up to Kim, all telling her something at once. One of the kids squealed, her braids bouncing as she pranced up to Kim, “Listen to this! What did the duck say to the cow?” Kim shrugged, not really sure what the joke was all about, “What?” The girl, who couldn’t have been more than five, hopped up and down, “Quack!” She proceeded to burst into giggles at her own joke. Kim paused a moment, quack? That was anticlimactic. Ducks say quack outside of jokes. Then Kim laughed, almost as hard as the joke-telling child. Kim said between laughs, “That’s great! You’re so smart.” The little girl beamed at Kim, clearly glad that the admired jokester thought her joke was good. Then she and her friends skipped off to sit down before they got scolded. They chattered eagerly about the joke and Kim’s response. Well, the not joke had had all the components of a good joke, so Kim had to give her credit for trying. Sure, there was no real cleverness to it at that point, but Kim couldn’t crush a fellow joke-teller.
Kim strolled over to Greg and Alice, who were still in the doorway. Kim exclaimed, “What took you so long, Greg? I’ve been back here for ages.”
Before Kim could make any other comments, Jack appeared behind the pair. He still looked dirty. Jack always looked a bit dirty, unless he had just washed. Working in the engines was apparently messy work, so there was always a spot of dirt on him somewhere. Kim glanced at his hands, those were spotless. Apparently he knew better than to go anywhere near the dining room without at least washing his hands. And his clothes, while dirty, did not look like they might suddenly create a dust storm. That was a relief . They didn’t need Bess or Kelly getting mad just because Jack didn’t know how to wash up. As old as he was, he knew better.
Jack had finished with his work just in time for lunch. No one had to come tell him or anyone in the bridge that it was time to eat. They were hungry and knew when everyone ate, so they were always eager to rush in at lunchtime. Although, they always had to pause to wash up, for fear they might be told not to eat because of their mess.
But when Jack got to the dining room, not everyone seemed ready to go. Cass and Hans seemed to be missing and Alice, Greg, and Kim were standing in the doorway. Jack was still not a talkative person. He said what he needed to say whenever he wanted, but most often he didn’t need to intercede. Someone else said what he was thinking before him. Still, Jack was a bit confused and had to ask, “Why are we standing in the doorway? I’m starving, guys.”
Cass nodded, nothing much else to say. Well, so far so good. They were venturing into new territory. Nothing remarkable. She supposed, in a way, it was a bit amazing though. Getting along with Mark. Even for a minute. That was pretty rare. As far as she could remember, Mark was always around. Always hanging around and criticizing her or the others, glowering at Hans, bickering at everything. Many of Cass’s memories included shouting at Mark until they got into trouble for shouting. So it really was breaking ground for them not to fight when there was no one around to make them behave. Maybe maturity finally caught up with Mark and he could act like the mature adult that Cass was. Well, that Cass was sometimes. For now, Cass thought it might be nice to get along with someone she always fought with. They would probably still bicker, Mark was much too bossy to be left alone, but maybe they could have some getting along mixed in as well.
Suddenly, Mark said her name. The way he said it was weird. Like it took out all his breath to say it. Like he was shouting across a distance of miles. Or more like the words had just fallen from his mouth and he was struggling to take them back. Cass couldn’t fathom why he would be so worried about saying her name. They were just talking. They weren’t fighting. She was being nice! There was nothing to be afraid of right now. Nothing to make him fear saying something as simple as her name. And he had stopped when he said it, as if he was rooted to the spot. Man, Cass did not understand Mark at all. Cass responded, stopping to turn and face him, “Hm?” Maybe that would encourage him to say something else. To finish his thought instead of looking like a kid caught stealing a cookie.
Finally, Mark continued, using a bit of a different tone now. He still sounded unsteady, like he was worried about what she might say. Well, he was asking if she hated him, which was probably rather worrisome. Cass wanted to say that his question was completely unjustified, but it was within reason. They did fight all the time, she supposed it would be reasonable for him to think she actually hated him. Although, he was always the one to start the fights, so maybe she should be asking if he hated her. That would make more sense than him getting all worried about her hating him. Cass shrugged a shoulder, “I don’t re-”
She was interrupted by Hans’s voice. He was asking if they were late. He must have heard her and Mark talking and figured out what they were doing. And by that she was referring to the fact that she and Mark were fetching Hans and Annabelle for lunch. Cass jumped around the corner, smirking, “Very late! In fact, we’ve already eaten. You get leftovers.” Cass smirked, “Just kidding.” No need to leave them in suspense for more than the second it took her to take a breath. Cass continued, “Anyway, we’d better get a move on. Kelly’s in a mood and if we’re not back soon, she might eat us. Or explode. It’s a mystery.”
Annabelle had been about to agree with Hans when Cass appeared and interrupted. She looked happier than when she had left the practice room. Anna couldn’t fathom why, she still appeared to be saddled with Mark, which typically put Cass in a bad mood, not a good one. Maybe they were actually getting along. Or maybe hunger had tamed both of them. Regardless, Anna agreed, “Let’s go then. I don’t want to see either.” With that, she took control before the younger teens forgot how to hurry and started walking towards the dining room.
Once they arrived, there was a small group in the doorway. Oh, it was Jack. Well, not just him, a few other kids were in front of him. Jack seemed just as confused about why he was in the doorway as Anna was. Still, Annabelle stopped a comfortable distance back and gave the group a minute to sort themselves out and walk through the doorway before she started trying to convince them to move out of the way.

((IT WAS SOOOOO CLOSE! Yet so far! It was funny and precious at the same time though. I know. I love writing for all of them. Kim is just a doll to write for. Although sometimes a struggle because I forget she's 14 and not 6 or something. Awkward))

Greg turned to Kim as she approached them. He always got along best with Kim, ever since they were wandering orphans down there. Perhaps it was because their ages were close to one another, or maybe it's just because they were always treated as the kids among their group. Greg might have minded that a bit too much though. He always wanted to be treated as an adult, to be in the same group as Cass and Jack and Bess, even Hans was treated like an adult now, even though he's only a year older than Kim. But being with Kim would make him forget that he's a kid. He'd only remember that he's Greg, and she's Kim, and that hanging out with her was always fun, though sometimes they do bicker and tease each other quite a bit. She was just like a really close sister to Greg.
"Well, obviously the adults are wiser enough to know that they should avoid Kelly's wrath. The brats, on the other hand, seemed to be more worried about something else," said Greg. He was referring to Alice's hidden killer aura that the kids could have probably felt, but seeing as Alice was just beside him, it would be wise for him to avoid toggling that death switch.
Turning back up, Greg looked around the now crowded dining hall to see if everyone was there. Nope, still no signs of Cass, Mark, Hans, Anna and...still no sign of Jack. Instinctively he turned to Kelly, whose face still to have a permanent redness to it now from all the gathering rage within her. Bess and Miss Hutcherson seemed to be doing a good job keeping that at bay though, but perhaps not for long. Just then, he heard Jack's familiar voice from behind him. Greg didn't even notice he was there until he spoke, and it had been a while since he last saw Jack. Jack was always so busy with the engines and Greg usually only saw him during meals. And since they were seated on different tables, it was always a rare chance for him to be able to even start a conversation with Jack. Doesn't help too that Jack was always such a quiet person. But seeing Jack always put a smile on Greg's face. Since he was a kid he had always looked up to Jack, like an older, admirable brother. Opening his mouth to start a conversation, he was taken aback when Alice's voice sounded instead.
"Jack! You're just in time. Though not quite everyone's here yet though. Wait, you're starving already? Let's go sit down already then. I'm pretty sure lunch's starting soon cause almost everyone's here already," Alice said, seemingly much more cheerful than before. Her crush on Jack was so obvious for a while now, that even most of the younger kids know about it. Alice would be shy enough to deny if one confronted her about it, but she always seemed to be extra aware about Jack and his necessities.
"Oh, you have a black spot on your forehead," continued Alice when she saw the spot of dirt on Jack's right side of the forehead. It was probably from one of the dirty engines he was working on. She took out a handkerchief from her pocket and began to wipe it away for him, smiling as she did so. All this while, Greg only stared at the two of them, somewhat disappointed that Alice once again snatched away the chance to talk to Jack, but always somewhat taken aback at the vague display of affection. He turned his eyes to look at Kim, expecting her to make eye contact as well to share their equal expression of mild disgust.
Mark was eagerly waiting for her answer. But even before she gave any replies, he was already mentally prepared to utter those words that seemed so hard to say, especially cause it's Cass. When she started to talk, he felt like his heart had skipped a beat. But much to his disappointment, she did not complete her sentence. It took him a second to register why she stopped halfway through her reply. He had to tilt his head to one side to see Hans and Anna by the corner of the corridor. Before he could properly understand the situation though, Cass was already facing backwards to himself and was cheerfully talking to Hans.
He felt like he had a reply from her. Which was yes, she didn't like him. Of course, Mark felt dumb for even thinking she wouldn't dislike him. After all, he was also aware that he was a huge jerk to her and Hans the whole time. His head fell downwards, not making any eye contacts with the three of them. Hans was initially shocked at Cass's initial utterance, but quickly caught his breath when she corrected herself and said it was a joke. Leftovers in the airship don't always look appetizing. When Anna suggested that they should go now, Hans followed behind her without a word. It was only when he got nearer to Cass and Mark did he notice Mark's down expression though. He did wonder why Cass was still cheerful after being with Mark so Hans thought things were good, but apparently, the once loud Mark was just looking downwards. He didn't even cast Hans any killing glares.
He had to skip one step backwards when the group suddenly stopped walking at the doorway though. Then Hans noted how many of them were standing by the doorway. Greg tilted his head when he saw shadows from behind and grinned when he saw Cass and the others. "Oh great, finally everyone's here!" He said it pretty loudly so everyone in the dining hall could probably hear him. The kids all cheered and excitedly ran to their respective seats. Bess turned up to the late group and sighed with much relief. She did seem a little flushed out from constantly trying to ease Kelly's anger. "Okay then! We're all here! Hurry up guys, get to your seats!" urged Bess as she smiled somewhat tiredly.
When everyone was properly seated, Bess took the initiative to say their prayers before the meal. "Okay then, everyone, dig in!" Bess said, sounding really glad that lunch had finally begun.
(They are too fun to type. Even Greg is a dear to talk about now. Anyways, feel free to do a timeskip or something?)

Kim snickered at Greg’s veiled comment about Alice. It was not completely obvious that he was referring to Alice, as he wasn’t stupid enough to insult her to her face. Although, it really could be viewed as a compliment. People were afraid enough of you to obey you. That seemed rather impressive. Kim would not want to be known for that, she would rather be known for being so lovable people wanted to help her out. Or even just as a funny person. Kim would be happy with that. Although, if she was known for being clever more than funny, that would be better. Funny people could be rather dense and stupid. But clever people were smart. And you had to be pretty intelligent to come up with the jokes and riddles Kim came up with. Well, no matter what Kim preferred, people would recognize her as they wanted to, not as she planned them to. The best she could be was herself and hope for the best. And maybe people would see her the way she was and not the way they wanted her to be. But that was beside the point. The point was Alice could be as much of a rage monster as Kelly if she wanted to be. Or worse, since Kelly was only mean to everyone because she was bursting from the seams with her baby. Alice could just be hardcore when she wanted stuff done, regardless of the fact she didn’t have a giant baby in her stomach.
“Well, seems like they know what’s going on at least,” Kim smirked. The kids at least had the sense to stay on the right side of Alice. They weren’t stupid enough to completely disregard Alice’s…energy. Not that Alice herself was very threatening, but she could be just as harsh as Kelly was to James if she wanted to be. Maybe not even that. Alice just knew how to lay down the law. Which Kim supposed was good, just not very fun. Rules were good to keep everything straight. But when everything was straight and in order, there was not enough spice to life. It was moments like that, reflecting on the rules, that made Kim remember her time running around in the streets and hiding at home- that small house they procured- with Cass, Greg, Jack, Hans, and Bess. There had been rules, but Cass had made the rules. And she hadn’t been too strict at making rules. Just do your share of the work had been the gist of the rules. Otherwise, they had run wild. So the rules here, as long as she had had to get used to them, were sometimes strange. Although she was luckier than the older kids, who had lived longer without rules than she had. They had had more time to get used to living freely, under the rules of other kids. But the rules on the ship were good and fair. And Kim supposed she did like them. Just sometimes she missed the freedom of her young life. To just run free. Well, maybe it was growing up that had done that, not the airship.
When Jack walked up, the group had been calmly chatting. In the doorway for no apparent reason, but just chatting. Yet, his presence apparently spiced everything up. Greg turned to him, his usual grin decorating his countenance, but it was Alice who spoke.
Now, Jack only knew Alice from his own experience. He had never seen her when he was not around because, well, he had to be present to see her. So when Jack imagined Alice, he thought of a sweet, happy, considerate girl. She was nothing but nice to him, always doing her best to help him or the kids. Alice could probably fix a problem just by looking at it. If she really wanted to anyway. Nevertheless, her first words came as a bit of a surprise. They were just filled with so much energy. And she said so much at once. Jack nodded, he was already hungry. Of course he was, it was time for lunch. So he could be plenty hungry. And working in the engines just seemed to suck the energy out of him. Like the food he ate was only fuel for the engines and actually barely had any time to energize his body. Maybe that was why he still thing. Although, he did have plenty of muscles, so he was no scrawny chicken of a teenager still growing into his body. He had gotten pretty luck in that aspect, at least in his opinion. And having enough food to eat certainly helped him keep a healthy weight, unlike in his youth, when he could barely keep the skin on his bones, let alone have muscles. It was funny how different he must look now from when he did when he first arrived. A lot less hollow, Jack imagined. More like himself too.
Jack was about to agree with Alice, that perhaps they should go sit down so they would be ready when it was really time to eat, when she noticed a spot on his forehead. They seemed to be part of his skin now, he hardly noticed them. Jack was actually more likely to notice their absence after he washed properly than he was to notice their presence. But Alice noticed. And he thought she might just remark on it, but instead she immediately set to work scrubbing it off of his forehead. Well, scrubbing it was a bit strong. Scrubbing was a harsh action, but Alice was gently getting rid of the dirt. Ugh, that was a sappy thought. But it was true, it was sweet. In an Alice-y way.
Jack felt his ear redden with embarrassment. He could not quite pin down why he was embarrassed. Maybe because Alice had noticed him so dirty that she simply had to clean his face off before she could talk to him anymore. Or maybe it was the distance she closed between them as she reached up to clean his forehead. Or the little smile on her face as she did it. Drats, no the heat was spreading to his cheeks. Jack ignored it, willing that dumb, skittish blush to disappear. Jack mumbled, “Thanks. Um. Yeah. They always seem to pop up.”
Kim stared a bit at the display. It was weird sometimes. How the older people acted. Mark and Cass seemed to fight all the time, but they didn’t avoid each other like people who didn’t like each other should. Kelly and James bickered constantly, but they had a baby together, so they liked each other a little bit. Alice was frightening enough to make the little kids obey her, but she sweetly cleaned Jack up, even though he was old enough to be told to clean himself up. It was confusing. And weird. Kim glanced at Greg, to see how he was faring. He hadn’t even gotten to say hello to Jack, Alice had jumped in so fast. Kim screwed up her eyes and stuck out her tongue, a funny, but true, expression of distaste. She didn’t like watching such things much either. It was uncomfortable. So she agreed with Greg’s pleading expression on this one. Ew was right.
Cass had, essentially, forgotten about her conversation with Mark. It wasn’t that she didn’t care, but it hadn’t mattered as much to her as it had to Mark. She didn’t doubt their stances with each other. Or maybe it was that she simply didn’t care if Mark hated her. And of course, she knew her own answer to the question. Hating was rough. Cass was not really up for properly hating someone. Sure, he drove her nuts, but it wasn’t like she wanted to push him off the airship. Although, she supposed if he left of his own accord, it might not have bothered her too much. The time she spent fighting with him might have felt empty though.
Well, Cass had forgotten about their conversation until, walking with Hans, chatting eagerly, she glanced backwards. Mark looked so…down. Like she had broken him. But that wasn’t her fault! She hadn’t said anything to upset him. She hadn’t even finished her sentence. Then it occurred to her. By not finishing her sentence, she had inadvertently answered him. Well, he took it as an answer. But she hadn’t meant running up to Hans to be her answer. She had just heard them coming and wanted to say hello. Cass had gotten overenthusiastic about seeing them. And disregarded Mark.
If she had known he could get that sad, she might not have forgotten to finish her sentence. Cass had never seen Mark with an expression that wasn’t in some way disdainful. It was almost uncomfortable to see him like that. But she didn’t exactly want to keep talking about, yikes, feelings. Cass wasn’t even sure what had Mark all eager to talk about if she hated him or not either. It must have been a Mark thing.
Cass turned, as Mark was lagging behind Hans and her. She said shortly, “No I don’t, Mark. Don’t mope.” That might have been a bit more harsh than she was going for, but it got the point across. And maybe now Mark would move on with his day and they could all go back to their lives. Except, perhaps, with less Cass and Mark battles. That might be refreshing. They could actually get along for once. Well, as much as they could get along.
After they reached the door, plugged with people, there was a sudden flurry of movement when Greg announced their arrival. Apparently they were later than Cass had thought. Greg sure had rounded up those kids quickly. Or maybe Mark and she had walked slower than she originally imagined. Regardless, they were there now and they were going to eat. Cass saw Kim rush to her seat, eagerly claiming the two seats closest to the adult table for herself and Greg. That was as close as they could get to the grown-ups for now. Cass dropped into a seat herself. Most of the adults had sort of played a rushed game of musical chairs when Bess announced it was time to sit down. They had mostly been standing around avoiding getting too close to Kelly, but when it came time to sit down, they all had to hurry to claim a seat. Of course, there were enough seats for everyone to eat at once, but it was a bit of a struggle. Cass ended up next to one of the men who worked in the engines with Jack (so there was a bit of an oily smell coming from his direction) and an empty chair. She figured Hans might occupy it. Or Mark, judging by how her day was going. Hans would be easier though. Cass was used to talking to Hans comfortably. It was easy, her relationship with Hans. It was comfortable. They had grown up together. But they had also grown up with everyone else on the airship. And Annabelle was the real witness to Hans’ transformation. She had helped him grown into himself, instead of the fearful child he had been. But Cass liked to think she had been there, supporting him. Cass wasn’t really sure how it was from Hans’ perspective, he had never really mentioned it. Perhaps she would ask sometime. Cass saw Annabelle claim a seat across the table from herself. And there was an empty chair next to her as well. What luck! No matter what happened with Cass’ neighboring seat, Hans would be across the table. Of course, that was assuming that Hans would sit next to Annabelle or herself. But Cass couldn’t really imagine anywhere else he would want to sit.
Miss Hutcherson gladly stood up after Bess finished the prayers to help serve the food to each of the plates. It was easier to have a few people serving the food to the entire group instead of everyone vying for the serving utensils. Besides, it was the best way Miss Hutcherson could help with food (besides her garden, naturally) since she had gladly relinquished her kitchen to Bess. Bess was adept at handling it and enjoyed it much more than Miss Hutcherson every had. The kitchen was simply in Bess’ nature. Which was fantastic for the girl. It make her happy, and it made everyone else happy.
~A wild timeskip appeared!~
After an incredibly satisfying- and delicious meal, the tables slowly emptied as everyone returned to their duties. People filed out as they finished, some swallowing their meals hastily to get back to more exciting and important matters. Others ate slowly, properly enjoying the meal before returning to their duties. When only a few people were left, Cass stood up. Most of the group were her immediate friends and a few other familiar faces from the ship who were still hanging around and having after lunch conversation.
Cass stretched, “I’m so full! Thanks, Bess. And company.” She knew that others had been involved with preparing the meal (where she should have been earlier), but she gave Bess the actual credit for the food.
Cass started stacking dishes to carry into the kitchen for washing. She exclaimed, “To dish duty!” Cass punched her fist in the air, like it was an exciting mission. Then she returned to stacking dishes, trying to be a good helper to make up for her previous tardiness, which had accidentally transformed into absence due to circumstances quite beyond her control.
Kim giggled, “That chicken was REALLY good. No wonder it was more important than you before, Greg. Although, now that it’s gone, you’re regular important again.” She nodded. The littler kids were gone by now. They had laughed and joked during the meal, but they were already off to play again. Kim stood up slowly when Cass mentioned dish duty. She had to help with that today too. Work. Well, it was better than some of the jobs in the kitchen. Kim started stacking dishes too.

((That was LONG! I was inspired tonight!
Anyway, I did a little baby timeskip, just to get the after meal feel somewhat. If you want to move on to when Lucas and James come back, that would be fine. Or they could come back right now, just as everyone's cleaning up, so they can just have food and chat right then. I dunno. Just ideas there. I wasn't sure where else to timeskip but after lunch, so that's where I put it.
Oh yeah, and I COULDN'T leave Mark like that. It hurt too much. And even Cass could notice him being Mr. Grumplecat like he was, so yeah...he gets a terse answer. So he might need to nag about that RIGHT after dinner or not or whatever it is Marks do, but you've got ALL THE OPTIONS! So yay!))

((JACK AND ALICE ARE TOO CUTE. JACK. OH GOD. okay sorry, back to reality.)) Mark was so much more caught up about the question than he thought. He didn’t even realize that he was sulking about it, and that it was obvious to everyone else. He was too busy thinking about the times he argued with Cass. Sure, he was mad cause he couldn’t win her most of the time, but he wouldn’t say he hated those times. He wouldn’t say he liked Cass, but without her, it sure would feel a little lonely to have one less person to argue with. Indeed, he still held his opinions that Cass, Hans, Kim and Greg weren’t contributing as much as they should, but he didn’t think that they didn’t belong in the airship as much anymore. He had gotten used to their presences, and if they were to leave the airship, the others would probably feel sad so he didn’t want that too. Was he being too harsh? Was there a need of an apology? “No I don’t, Mark. Don’t mope.” That woke him up. What was she talking about again? There were so many thoughts going through his mind in those few seconds and he couldn’t properly register her words. It was by the time they got to the dining hall that Mark realized what Cass was saying. And how relieved he was when he knew about it. Without anyone noticing he let out a smile, glad that it was just overthinking on his part. Then it bothered him how worried he was about that one stupid question, especially with that directed to Cass, of all people. What was he thinking asking something stupid and humiliating like that? And why was he smiling! He shouldn’t care if Cass hated him, he did dislike her! Being around her always makes him irritated and annoyed and frustrated. He had no reasons to want to avoid her hating him. Hans was slightly embarrassed to find out that they were the last ones to get to the dining place. Everyone must have been waiting, and judging from Bess’s face, keeping Kelly at bay must have been tough and had been going on for a while now. After most of them took their seats, he turned to the adults table and found that there were two empty seats left, one next to Cass and one next to Anna. And he also noticed that Mark was still standing next to him. Thinking about how he was sulking the whole time just now, Hans figured it might be a good idea for him to be seated next to Cass. He already knew that Mark disliked him for being close friends to Cass. Perhaps it wouldn’t be the best time to further agitate that older boy. With that in mind, he walked over to Anna and sat down on the seat beside her. Mark, on the other hand, didn’t notice Hans’ actions but was slightly irked to see the only empty seat being next to Cass. Moreover, it was really awkward to even be next to her now that he asked something so stupid, and even acted as if he really cared about her answer. After sitting down next to her, Mark could feel his heartbeat getting faster. Was it because of the awkwardness? His humiliation? He hated it, but he didn’t want to make a big fuss out of things. Despite how unreasonable Mark could be at times, he actually tries his best to avoid troubling the others, and solve everything on his own if he could. That would be the same in this case. Everyone was already hungry for lunch, plus with a grumpy Kelly around, it would be bad to make this an issue. Plus, Cass seemed like she didn’t even care about this, so it would be embarrassing if he were to be the only one to mind about it. Despite not talking nor even looking at Cass, he felt even more self-conscious than usual, about his actions and the way he would eat. He would turn to face the other side throughout the meal, with the back of his head facing Cass. He would rest his head on his hand, and acted as if he really just wanted to get lunch done with and leave. But he couldn’t help it. Despite doing all he could to act as if he didn’t care about Cass, he would pay attention to her talk and to peek and see what food she seemed to enjoy the most. And when he noticed he was doing something stupid like that, he would get mad and frustrated at himself and try to distract himself. Ah, what the hell was wrong with him today? ~Timeskip~ After the meal was done, Alice quickly took Jack’s dishes and began to clean up for him. She was used to doing this every time, and would only do it for Jack. When she brought the dishes to the kitchen to leave them in the sink, Greg saw his chance to approach Jack. After hearing Kim’s remark about the chicken, he did agree that waiting for the chicken was definitely worth it. “Hey, without my quick reflexes we wouldn’t even have a chicken for lunch. So you all should be thanking me. Oh and, Kim, since it’s your turn to do the dishes, I’m sure you won’t mind bringing my dirty dish to the kitchen, since you’re on your way there,” Greg said, giving Kim a quick pat on her shoulders before leaving the table and hurrying to Jack before Alice gets back. “Hey Jack! How was the engines today? Do you need any help over there? I heard that things are getting a bit hectic over there. I’ve been reading a little about how airships work so I might be able to help a little!” Greg said, trying his best to impress Jack and hopefully get the ‘okay’ from him to help out. While he did actually spend some time reading about stuffs that he could talk to Jack about, Greg actually had little interest in the idea. He wasn’t cut out for technical stuffs, but he thought it was the best way for him to talk to Jack about. He also thought it could make him seem more mature, so that he could be acknowledged as one of the adults. After all, being an adult would also mean knowing more, and he didn’t want to seem ignorant like a child. The meal was indeed satisfying. Hans had always looked forward to the meals. It was a good opportunity to gather with everyone, and he was usually too hungry by the time he finished his training sessions. When Cass and Kim proceeded with their dish duties, Hans thought he would give some help with that. For some reasons, he wasn’t usually told to do too many chores around the airship. He always felt a little guilty about that, plus it feels good to help out once in a while. He felt like he belonged there, and that he was one of them. Besides, it’s been a while since he last hung out with Cass and Kim. He was usually with Anna all the time because they had something in common. Sometimes he still reminisce of the old times when he first met Cass and the group. He felt thankful for the life they are having in the airship, but he did miss the times he spent with just Cass, Jack, Bess, Kim and Greg. But of course, he could never forget how he displayed his cursed powers in front of them, and probably traumatized them. It was something that was still bothering him, though they didn’t seem to mind it as much now. “Hey Cass, Kim, need any help with the dishes?” Bess stayed back in the dining hall to clean the tables after Cass and Kim took all the dishes away. After all the kids had left to their playtime again, and the adults back to their work, Kelly sighed on her seat, signalling a satisfying meal. “What is taking Lucas and James that long? It must be James again. That useless guy, seriously. He’s about to be a dad and he still can’t even take care of himself,” complained Kelly, while her right hand softly rubbed against her belly. The baby would be due soon, and day after day she could feel the baby taking shape within her, and breathing with her. Just thinking about it actually put a smile on her usually grumpy face. Bess noticed the rare smile, and was pleasantly surprised, until she also saw Kelly’s hand on her belly. “One more month, eh? I wonder if it’s a boy or a girl,” She said as she approached Kelly again, after she was done wiping the kids table. “I might have wished that it’s a girl, but keep that a secret from James. He really wants a boy to play with..,” muttered Kelly with a faint smile. She would recall James saying that he regretted not having the chance to learn more about his father, and that he misunderstood him when he left the family to fight in the war. Speaking of the devil, they could all hear two very familiar voices outside the main door, and within a few seconds, the metal door was pushed open by a handsome blonde man. “We’re home!” Lucas said cheerfully, entering the airship first and holding the door open for James to come in after him. It was a relatively peaceful day today and they were flying over an area that had never touched war, so it was expected. “What’s that smell? Don’t tell me… Bess, did you actually made the chicken dish today?!” Lucas said, devastatingly. He absolutely loved Bess’ cooking, and judging by the smell, and the sounds of dishes being washed, he could tell that they just missed lunch. Bess was surprised to see them returning so soon, but it was usually better if they return that soon. Usually it meant things were peaceful outside. “I would have saved some for you and James if I knew you were coming back so soon. If you want, I can quickly get something cooked up for you guys right now,” Bess said. Kelly was partially relieved when she saw that they came back safely. There was always a risk whenever they leave the airship, that they would encounter the army and be caught or even killed. However, her outward reaction wasn’t as pleasant as Bess’. She would glare over at James, before standing up from her seat looking all irritated. “Welcome back, Lucas. I’m sure Bess can spare some time to make a meal for one more person,” she said. ((Okay, I might have intended to have both Lucas and James dead at one point in the RP. How evil am I. But that would make things so much more dramatic!!! Of course it’s your choice, James is your character after all. Sorry for adding that random info about his background, the one about his father. Thought that would bring some drama to the couple. If you don’t like it I can change the final paragraph. And. Mark. I took some time to write his part but I really forgot how he was like. But I decided that he needed to grow up a little, so maybe I will make him find out about his feelings way earlier than he should! I might make Lucas’ death come real soon. Probably have him interact a little bit more with Cass before I do so though. Oh dear, this RP is gonna be dark. BUT I LOVE IT! Also, I didn’t talk about Mark in the second half cause I didn’t know how to include him in. So lets just have him walk away after the meal, cause he’s probably annoyed with his pubescent emotions firing up. Lol. ))
