Keira could only chuckle about the idea of a cult being around this mall of kids. If she had to guess, there already was one. I mean look how they all seemed to ADORE Cain! That was a little fishy and last time she checked, he’s never shown his powers to anyone…so it was safe to say Keira was a little curious about that but, then again, she wasn’t really one with the crowd so she just set it aside. After all, the outcasts just couldn’t possibly understand popularity right? Pfft, whatever! It didn’t really bother her much anyways. Cain certainly wasn’t as magical as some people tried to make her believe but he wasn’t a bad guy either. He was a decent human being as far as she could tell, so she had no reason to go about thinking up conspiracies with him. So instead of trying to conjure up some romantic plot involving Cain and all these other children, Keira shook her head with an amused smile.
“Pfft, don’t you know already? I’m a cultist leader! Me and my imaginary—oops, I mean invisible followers are going to take over this mall and start a rebellion against the Aristocrats under the name of Satan. Hail!” When Nigel sat down Keira couldn’t help but tilt her head and oddly cut hair to the side as she examined this species before her. He seemed to get a little uneasy about the topic of females and, without much thought, blurted something out that she probably would have kept to herself…if she wasn’t talking, of course. Maybe it was her way of making him feel better or something, who knew. “You and me both! Seems like the only girls I can ever attract around here are those weird addicts or closet freaks who are too afraid to open up the door. All the good looking ones are straight, damn it.” Throwing herself down on floor to be sitting in a mimicking style as the larger brute before her, Keira continued. “I’m pretty sure most of them are at least curious or something. No way you can sit there showering, changing, and sleeping beside the same gender so often and for so long that something doesn’t just click in their head or make them curious or whatever. People are dumb.”
When Nigel asked about the piercing, Keira’s expression seemed to drop dramatically. That was always one of the first things people asked her and quite frankly, it was getting annoying. She could have easily just gotten rid of all that crap on her face and then there’d be no troubles with this, but she was tired of her appearance being the first thing people noticed…of course that is a pretty stupid thing to say considering your exterior IS the first thing anyone will see regardless of the circumstances…but…seriously?! For once she just wanted someone to keep quiet and then ask her about her day, or about her opinion on some religious view point or something. I mean, you don’t HAVE to always point out what she’s wearing. Keira knows what she’s wearing because she’s the one who puts it on everyday and if you’re so curious, why don’t you just go poke your own holes in your own face?! Alright, fine, maybe this is a little over reaction but Keira couldn’t help but feel this way. Well, at least Nigel didn’t ask like some snob. Most of them are snobs, you know? Always being smartasses and junk. AND this kid is OBVIOUSLY new here so he probably lost his ability to talk with people.
Then again maybe that doesn’t mean anything…look at her. She’s surrounded by people all the time and she still hasn’t learned. What a drag.
Removing her bangs from her face in a single motion of her torn up hand, Keira sat brutally relaxed as she distantly stared at Nigel.
“Thanks. And yeah, I’ve had them for a couple of years. I was never able to get a tattoo so I made up for it with piercings. As you can tell, I kinda got a little crazy with it.” Since they were on this topic, they might as well continue the subject. “You got any? Or any tattoos?”
------------
Larka spun around only to be met by Luka and his hand disrupting her hair from its inglorious lazy ponytail. Actually half of it was already hanging out of the hair tie that once he ruffled her hair, the rest just clung there loosely as though it gave up the struggle to look decent. Larka on the other hand still had her little fighting spirit, smacking away Luka’s hand like a fly.
“Do I look like a dog to you?” she snapped in a teasing voice, then stopped to look up at her taller companion with a raised, playful fist. “No? Then back off before I disfigure your bones!” She faked an Italian accent in her threat just for the hell of it, although even she was questioning why. As she finished her sentence she proceeded to move as though she was about to punch Luka, then quickly let her arm down and started messing with her hair. Now that it was pointless keeping it in a ponytail, she tried at a sloppy side braid.
All the while, Larka couldn’t help but feel accomplished. She was able to actually use her powers with other people around! Certain that Luka was proud of her, Larka remained quiet on the subject in hopes to hear some type of praise…that might be pretty vain of her to do but hey, in her eyes even though she risked Luka’s life by throwing him with Sydney, she did a pretty damn good job.
“And I wasn’t showing off. I was just showing you that I’m better now.”

Reajik continued to listen and took note to the silence regarding his power. He knew that what he said didn’t exactly clarify anything. Looking at the two back and forth as Aurora started to explain how she made things explode and what not, Reajik sort of just stood there silently. He figured muttering a few things under his breath would be pointless with Luke right there and his little nifty trick to amplify sounds, so instead of trying to force himself to keep his tongue, Reajik just spoke up casually and openly to break the uncertain aura he just threw himself under.
“So basically you’re a badass?” Asked Reajik, giving Aurora that unusual average smile that he was prone to denying in his days at the Sanctuary. “I guess I need to make sure Fell doesn’t tick you off. It would be a shame to be totally obliterated by the girl you like.” Reajik couldn’t even finish talking before he starting laughing a little, although realizing he was talking about his brother’s potential demise, he regained himself and collected his thoughts. “Your power is pretty cool too, though. I mean, if you’re caught in a tight situation, or if you AND others are, you can pretty much mask everything you do. Make the enemy known.” Getting goose bumps across his arms, he continued “That’s actually a little freaky. You could basically rob anything if you wanted and no one would hear, or you could make even a trained assassin heard.” Getting a little more light heartened with his choice of potential situations, Reajik cleared his voice and tried bringing up the mood again. “Also you can listen in on some pretty good gossip without even being in the drama. Now THAT’S something most teens would envy.” The longer he spoke the more his accent started to creep back in his tone, although at point it was clear he was trying to restrict his tongue from adding the spice to his words. He never really liked his accent. He always found it a little annoying to listen to…maybe because of Fell.
Reajik paused for a second as he continued to contemplate Luke’s sarcastic question. Any secrets? Well Reajik had a few but there was one he’s always been tempted to vocalize. He was just always afraid of his brother if Fell was to find out.
“Um, I do want to say something though. It relates to my powers and my reasoning for being such a quiet awkward kid for so long.” Handing Luke the last dish in the sink, Reajik wiped his hands of any water and jumped up onto a small clearing of the counter. “I think I might have been the one to take Fell’s voice.” Nodding his head to himself as though ensuring he said that correctly, Reajik scratched the back of his neck uncomfortably before speaking again. “I mean, it wasn’t on purpose. I might not like my brother a whole lot at times but he’s my brother and I couldn’t do that to him. But, it’s just…the day the schools were…you know, gassed, I just…I don’t know.” Gazing off into the short lasted distance that was intercepted by the enclosed area they were in, Reajik began to almost subconsciously speak the order of events taking place while his mind was focused on the flashback.
“I couldn’t see…and Fell found me somehow. It was like he made it from the opposite side of the school in the instant the ‘bomb’ went off. Honestly at the time I thought it was a little amazing, then I come to realize he was just about to ditch school. It made sense. My class was pretty close to the main entrance anyways. Maybe he was already out the door by that time and then just came back for me. Not really sure…”
“I can’t breathe…” choked Reajik, crawling on the floor with teary eyes. “Fell…Fell?” suffocating and coughing in a furious struggle for this newly born asthmatic, Reajik felt a painful hand on his shoulder pulling him up. He was met by the bloodshot eyes that shared the similar rarity of gold as his own, looking him over concerned and panicked. He felt fear, and so did his brother. Knowing his brother, the one who always seemed to be the icon of strength for the family, was succumbing to the terror they all felt, Reajik felt helpless and numb.
“Before we could get through the door, there was another explosion. This one wasn’t gas though. It was an actual explosion from the gas itself, setting the walls and entrance on fire. We were both knocked down but I was the first to get up. Fell took quite a bit from the explosion because he was somehow able to react just in time to shield me from some of the blast. When I finally got him up something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong, and I figured that it was from the gas. He started coughing up a lot of blood and acted like he was going a little crazy.”
Clawing at his neck Fell tore through his suffering and stumbled to his feet, where his blood began to tighten his throat in a sweltering impression. Reajik and Fell, regardless of which ever one grabbed who first, forced each other through the crowding halls of the school and out into open air. Fell collapsed and began to gag appallingly, leaving his twin to stand by and watch. The older twin began to lose consciousness and Reajik’s shock and adrenaline tamed him in that instant to have him leap forwards to grab a hold of Fell. Upon his touch his brother’s skin began to go dry and brittle, his body, newly scorched with ashes, inching into the cold with delicate bliss.
“When he got up and we got out…I tried helping but…I…I didn’t realize it then…but…when I helped, I just…I was killing him. My powers were already…they were just playing around with their new host, and I almost killed my brother. I was taking his life by trying to save it and…when I finally got him home he was already dead.” Tears began to stream from Reajik’s eyes as he remembered every moment that he sobbed while his brother’s corpse lay on the couch. “Then I realized that I, that while Fell was dying, I kept obtaining strength. I continued to feel better like the gas didn’t harm me in any way. At the time it was just a crazy notion but I really thought that I had a power or something. Then I just wanted to think I was able to bring him back and that it wasn’t the gas that killed him, but that I had his life force or something…and…I did.”
”Fell…” murmured Reajik into the shirt collar of his brother “wake up damn it…wake up you bloody jerk.” Salty tears dampened the black t-shirt that Fell wore, forcing the cloth to grow heavy and thick on his skin just as the blood was in his throat. “this can’t happen…not…no…F-ell...Larka still needs us.” Crying even louder now that this idea that his sister had been taken from him, Reajik screamed. He screamed only to have it muffled into Fell’s shirt. “Larka still needs us! She still needs you...I NEED you, damn it! Don’t leave…don’t leave…please…Fell…don’t…leave me…” While his face was buried into the shirt he felt a drum. One. Two. One. Two. Then finally, in a steady beat, the drum began to echo through the hollow corridors of Fell’s chest. His heart began to keep a steady pace, and the warmth rejoiced under the tan skin of Nicholas Hawk.
“I revived my brother from the dead that day: but I also killed him. And for the longest time after that, I felt like if I touched anyone I would just steal their life. Like I’d kill them even from a high five or a hug. But I realized now that I have more control. I mean, I don’t want you to think I’m some freak or anything when I say this, but since we were in the sewers, I practiced my power on rats and insects. I learned that I could transfer life from one body to the next, although since these were done on animals, I’m not sure how well it would work on a human.”

Anders just smiled, even though he was sure he was trembling inside. The trauma of the psychoblast was not unfounded, and he at least remembered what an angry kid like Cam can unleash when distressed. Still, he want to trust the kid.
"Shall we return to my camp upstairs? We can do this mind-diving of yours in quietness," Anders offered. He was not sure of that whether Cam needed that quiet, but he assumed that quietness would be good for him.

Nigel burst out in laughter as Keira went on and envisioned herself leading an army of invisible -- definitely imaginary -- cultists of Satan in this mall. "Really?" Nigel managed between laughs. "Why, you would get a good finger-wagging from my momma if you did that. She would scold your minions back into hell, she does."
"It's not exactly....I don't mean....," Nigel's laughter flushed down to nervousness when Keira went on to talk about the other girls. Surely she jests? "Yeah there are curious ones, but that's just that. Curious. Mostly just asking how did I grow so big or what not. Even ones I believed to be sexual harassment, I'd say, the questions they pout out," Nigel just shuddered when he recalled some of them bolder girls asking him about the size of his member. He gave them no answers, not because he did not want to scare them, but out of embarrassment. "Kinda makes you wonder if there are decent ones still available, eh?" he chuckled.
"I have no tattoos, but any piercings I had would have recovered," Nigel sighed. "I used to have scars all over my body, but the mutation I experienced had healed them all up," he added, rolling back his sleeve and showing her his barren, if not muscular, arm. "There used to be six slash wounds from my fight with the gang down in Payton, but now it was gone," he said in reminiscence of his past.
"Most of the kids around here are too keen to show off their powers, like that David kid," Nigel chuckled at the memory of David showing off his powers to him previously. "What can you do? Just curious," he asked Keira.

Ryker listened on as his remark on them finding each other resulted in various praise toward Jay. She had been the one to find and bring their group together. Ryker wondered if maybe he should have done the same thing. He wasn't really sure what happened to the other kids at his school. After he realized he was being hunted, and discovered his power, he used it to be a coward and hide himself. For his own survival. He hadn't taken up a position of leadership as Jay had. He hadn't even joined a group, until he came across the mall and the mall kids. Completely by chance. He wondered if that made him a bad person.
Deciding not to focus on himself, while others were talking, he grinned as everyone continued to praise Jay who seemed to be trying to take it humbly. It was kind of cute how she got all flushed like that though. Of course, being praised for literal heroic actions was not common in high school, so he guessed anyone would be flustered as well. "Well, it seems that you are quite the hero, friend and leader." Complimenting Jay, he made a motion as if tipping an invisible hat toward the girl.
The flattery seemed to finally stop as a slight pause came between them. For a split second the focus was returned to the cards, but Ryker's second subject quickly stirred every one up once again. As Chris' joke came Ryker laughed and only laughed harder as Jay mentioned Chris having an obnoxious personality. Well that could definitely sour some votes in popularity, whether it was a joke or not. Izzy thanked Ryker for the compliment, to which he nodded to let her know that it was indeed a compliment and that it was sincere.
Jay quickly brought up that she has been wondering the same thing he had been and listened as everyone chimed in on the fact that he would probably be popular at their school. Mostly because he was on the swim team he was sure. "Well, aren't we all just awesome?" Ryker chimed in on Izzy's comment that they were all just super popular. "I'm sure Jay would have been most popular out of all of us though. After all... She is the leader isn't she? The queen bee is always on top." Ryker snickered a little as he imagined Jay as Regina George from the movie mean girls. He didn't think Jay was manipulative or as bitchy as that, but it was just the definition of a queen bee. ----------- As Larka swatter Luka's hand away and made mention of her looking like a dog to him, he pretended that it had hurt and rubbed his hand gingerly before grinning as she raised a playful fist toward him. Then she mentioned disfiguring his bones and he laughed, "I bet you could too!" He nodded matter-of-factually to support his point. As she began to play with her hair she did look rather proud of herself, which of course, Luka grinned at.
When she mentioned that she was showing off he crossed his arms and nodded, "I see, I see... So you were showing off, but only because you've improved." With a clap of his hands and a smile he added on, "I feel your awesome improvement deserves a reward of some kind." Bending down to be level with the girl he asked curiously, "What would you like?"
----------- As Luke and Reajik complimented Aurora's power she smiled politely and thanked them respectfully. Reajik added a joke about making sure Fell didn't tick her off, but it made her blush as he remarked about his twin liking her. She decided to concentrate on the dishes after that to calm her rosy cheeks. Thankfully, Reajik was on Luke's power now, which she felt that Luke didn't seem to think was as cool as they thought it was. She supposed there were probably others like that too. Those who underestimate themselves and what they're actually capable of.
As their conversation about powers came to a close Luke made a remark about them having any more secrets that they felt like sharing. Before she could react to it, Reajik seemed to be answering the question already. And he was answering it, with a secret. A real one. One that she was certain he was holding in and hadn't told anyone before. Aurora was shocked. Mostly because she was sure that Luke was half joking when he made mention of swapping secrets, especially dark ones. But also because Reajik felt like opening enough to them to share it. I mean he didn't really know either of them. Aurora couldn't recall seeing Reajik hang out with Luke and Syndey, and he had never really hung out with Aurora and Luka.
In any case, she listened intently. It was hard to tell what she was thinking while Reajik spoke and told his story, unravling a bit of his past. She made no particular reactions with neither sound nor facial expression. She sort of just listened, blankly. Maybe it was just shock from what she was hearing, or maybe she just didn't want to react to it. As it became clear this was the story of how he discovered his power, and partly a confession of harming his brother, Aurora could only nod her head slightly in showing that she understood and was in fact listening though she expressed no immediate opinion.
As Reajik's story came to an end, Aurora wasn't entirely sure what to say or do. After all she didn't know Reajik very well. So her crimson iris' swimming in a pool of black looked toward the male, "That's a hard way to discover your powers." She hated that response. But it was all she could come up with immediately so things wouldn't get too awkward in the silence. Deciding to focus on the fact that he practiced controlling his powers, Aurora actually couldn't recall if she ever did see Reajik touch anyone. "I can see how it would be hard if you couldn't control it. But it's admirable that you've practiced." She wondered if admirable was the right word. She just meant that his practicing showed that he didn't want to harm anyone else. With the ability to take life comes great power and it'd be easy to succumb to it and kill who ever you felt like.
She was at a loss of words again, so she focused back on the dishes. She supposed if she was willing to share a secret, she could break the awkwardness with that, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to share. At least not with them. Not yet. She wondered if that was anyone's power. Knowing all your deepest secrets. Even the ones your suppress. Probably. After all they ran into that fortune teller, the lie detector, and Cam was their own little mind reader.

Sydney went slowly towards the food court, deep in thought as she let the crowds of hungry kids sort of push her along with the tide. It must've been around dinner time, she guessed, with this many kids starting to rush the same area. Slightly painfully, with her finger still sore, she ran her hands through her hair, pulling it back into a slightly sloppy ponytail, a few wisps tickling her nose still. Her stomach growling loudly, Sydney rubbed it gently, a crease of worry forming on her face. She'd noticed that she was hungry a lot before, but she'd never necessarily worried if it was weird. In the facility, aside from the small portions, she'd opted out of food a few times because of being so grossed out, or she'd missed a meal because she was stuck in bed sleeping off some new bruises. At one point, early on, she had taken on a hunger strike, but in the end, Cam seemed much more distressed by it than any guard, so she'd quit. Of course, after that, she was at the underground sanctuary, eating rationed food. Again, not a lot of food, but plenty of physical exertion. Understandably hungry. Walking through the mall now, though, she wondered why she seemed to be burning through her calories so fast. Her powers obviously sped up her metabolism a lot, but this was just a little inconvenient. In the time they'd been here, she'd barely gotten any more meat on her bones than she'd entered the mall with. She was shrimpier than she'd ever been, and it was safe to say she'd been a little self-conscious on that front to start with. Well, perhaps with enough food she could get there.
Finally nearing the kitchen, Sydney filed into line, still a bit perturbed. Now that she wasn't in his presence, she could dissect what Cain had actually said. He'd called her a good girl, hadn't he? She'd been pleased, but now she was a bit worried. That wasn't something you said to a cute girl, was it? She wasn't sure. Sometimes boys said dumb things. But what if she was right, what if he didn't see her as a woman? She didn't look very womanly at all. Girlish, yes. But even with a lot of food and no weird powers, she'd been pretty small. Athletically built, you could say. She could've maybe claimed to have hips, if only because her legs were so muscular... but she'd never been curvy, and now it was even worse. As she loaded up a tray with food, Sydney caught sight of the kids who worked in here. Oh, Luke and Aurora had been sent to work here, right. She'd scarcely noticed when they'd split up. They were pretty far down the line from where she was right now, but she could still tell they were enjoying themselves. Fell's brother, Reajik, was there too, which was a bit surprising. She'd always thought he was kind of quiet, lonely. Though Luke was quiet too, so maybe they flocked together. Sort of. Her cheeks puffed out with discontent, wondering how Aurora did it. Obviously that girl was pretty. Was that the kind of girl Cain liked? She wasn't sure. Sure seemed like Aurora got a fair share of attention, she thought bitterly, embarrassed jealousy heating her cheeks. She was being a little silly, she realized as she rearranged the tray to fit more. The kid next to her was eying her dubiously, as if doubting her ability to eat so much, and she glared back until he looked away. Little snot.
"Hey, Sydney! Eat with me?" a voice distracted her from her nitpicking, and she raised her brows at Ezra. Hm. Well, maybe she could ask his advice. He was kind of an idiot, but a male perspective was a male perspective. She nodded agreeably, making him beam like she'd given him some great treasure.

Cam pretended not to notice the clear cut concern in Anders' head. People sort of forgot what Cam could do when they were actively talking about it, he'd noticed, but he felt badly about pointing it out. He'd just have to shape up, find his control. He hadn't practiced much aside from sensing and influencing feelings, before, aside from his freakout, and he did wonder if maybe he could help Anders remember. For his own safety, he and Sydney had agreed to keep his power secret, lest the Aristocrats get any bad ideas. Now, though, he was free to do as he pleased. Sort of. Probably shouldn't practice making people forget things. Or make people crazy.
"Sure, yeah, I think some quiet would make it easier to concentrate." Cam agreed, trotting after the older boy upstairs, a little scared and a little excited. Soon enough, they sat facing each other on the floor, and Cam scratched his cheek. "Okay...I-I guess I'll give it a try. Anything you want me to try and find? Well, I guess you wouldn't remember what you forgot until you remember, uh..." Cam trailed off awkwardly, and shook his head. "Sorry. Okay. Here we go." he said quietly, more to himself than Anders now. He closed his eyes, shutting out the surroundings. He could feel Anders' mind, a sort of warm, bright light waiting alone in the empty surroundings. As soon as he investigated a bit more, feelings and thoughts and sensation rocked through him, making him wince in surprise. He was immersed much further than he'd ever been before. He had to fight to remember that he was Cam, not Kyosuke Anders. Cam, Cam, Cam. Okay, he was stable. Fuzzy images were filtering around him, people he didn't recognize, people he didn't recognize. They were sort of filtered with colors, saturated with opinion. Sydney, colored a bit red, Jay, colored sort of blueish...the better known, the sharper the edges and features. "This is so weird." he finally said out loud, sure that Anders was wondering what was happening.

As more of a reflex than anything, Jay ran her hand through her hair. She supposed the entire situation could have been more embarrassing, if everyone had tried just a little it harder to praise her more extensively. Still, she felt slightly uncomfortable in her skin now. Her clothes were too tight and she felt the need to shift slightly every few moments. But Ryker didn’t seem to be making fun of her, which made her feel a bit less frustrated. Still shifting her position slightly, Jay said to Ryker, “Thanks.”
Thankfully, her discomfort had a temporary reprieve as they talked about their ever-so-possible popularity. The sensation of too-tight clothes evaporated as they returned to the realm of the familiar. A simple card game. Something normal teenagers did on normal teenage days in a normal mall, well maybe not in a mall, but somewhere surely. However, the topic quickly circled its way back to Jay being the queen bee. Maybe she was, in her own way. Jay did like to be in charge. Being anything else was rather frustrating. Jay would rather hold her head high and get things done than wait around for someone else to lead a group. Still, she laughed, trying to imagine herself actually running an intense clique in traditional queen bee fashion like in high school movies. Which, were honestly rather unrealistic if only because of the complete disregard for a dress code. Hats in school? How could the directors allow such inaccuracy?
Chris laughed, “Watch out, Jay! He’s on to you.” Jay moaned, “Shoot! No one was supposed to know.” There was a quick chorus of laughter in response. Jay fiddled with her cards, as if she was trying to make them better by reordering them repeatedly, “Don’t you see though, I’m clearly not the queen bee. That’s Cain.” Her tone grew slightly bitter at the end of her comment. Bri sighed, “Not this again.” Jay shrugged, “I’m not going to pretend I like him.” Trevor suggested, “Maybe not bringing it up at every opportunity would be a wiser alternative then.” Jay tried to make light of the comment, “You better watch it, Trev. I’m the queen bee of this group and I can kick you out.” Trevor moaned, “Anything but kicking me out of the clique!”
---
As Luke dried the last dish, he had not really expected his day to get much more exciting. He had figured they might joke around some more, maybe get some dinner together. He would probably find his way back to Sydney after a little while. And maybe she would have settled down a little bit by then. And be back to her regular self after her great heart-to-heart with Cain. And they would all be good again.
Maybe he had become too reliant on Sydney. Luke relied on her to always be his company. To offer opinions in a louder voice than he ever wanted too. Luke expected her to be around about as much as he expected his left arm to be around. She was simply someone he was not accustomed to being without. And perhaps, in that way, she had become his voice. As Jay had been for so many years. Except, it was different than that. Maybe because he had chosen Sydney. Jay he could never escape, but he wanted to be around Sydney. She was his friend. Not their friend either. His friend. Maybe one of the few friends that were actually only his and not Jay’s too.
So, it made Luke a little uncomfortable to be without her. Strangely, he felt quieter. Maybe because Sydney was so loud that he had to be louder and bolder just to keep up with her. Without her, he felt so strange. What if the rest of his life was this strange as Sydney chased after Cain and left Luke to his own devices? And he was left in this strange sort of limbo-ish aftermath of Sydney and her hurricane of a personality, as Ezra had phrased it. And Luke was left trying to be loud but never finding reason to say much without Sydney around to prompt him. Who could fill that spot?
But he was being overdramatic, Luke assured himself. After all, that was ridiculous. He and Sydney were too close of friends to simply stop talking to one another. They had been through an awful lot together. It seemed like the kind of bond that couldn’t just disappear. So he surely wouldn’t spend the rest of his life trying to fill the hole Sydney left. Everything was going to be fine. No need to overreact, he assured himself. Repeatedly.
However, Luke’s day did get more exciting. But not really in a good way. In a rather unsettling way actually. Reajik confessed that he had a secret, just as Luke started drying the last dish. He was glad at how quickly the task had passed by. Working a group like this had made it slightly entertaining, in fact. They had a chance to talk and learn more about each other. It was exactly the kind of team bonding Luke had had in mind. Except, of course, that Reajik was there and Syd and Luka weren’t. But it was basically the same concept.
Reajik dropped a sort of bomb on them. He revealed his…well, origin story as it was. If they were in an anime or novel or something. His backstory. And it was not all sunshine and rainbows. It was quite the opposite in fact. Luke was surprised he didn’t drop the plate he was drying in his surprise. So Reajik was the reason Fell couldn’t speak. Almost a blessing, that is if Fell actually didn’t speak, but he did and annoyed Luke every time he opened his mouth. But that was not exactly an appropriate train of thought right now.
Luke was slightly horrified though. Not because he thought Reajik was a monster, but because he was scared to imagine himself in the same situation. Fell and Reajik were twins, though they shared a different bond than Luke and Jay. But Luke could not imagine being in a position to have Jay’s life in his hands. To nearly watch her die because of his lack of control. That was a real nightmare. And Reajik was telling them. They were hardly friends. Maybe it was too much for him to hold it in any more. To remember the horror of that day without uttering it to anyone. And maybe that was why he told them. Luke would understand. He would know why it was so horrible to watch that happen. To lose a twin, if only for a moment. That was a hole deeper than any wound Sydney could have left.
A silence followed Reajik’s story. Luke was still reeling, and he could guess Aurora was too. It was a rather shocking story. And so suddenly. Maybe he should have warned them to sit down as he had. Wasn’t that a good courtesy before delivering shocking news?
Aurora filled the silence, thankfully. She tried to deliver the conversation to safety. Luke handed her the last dish as she finished speaking, as she seemed to be trying to return to a task rather than her discomfort.
Luke muttered, “I’m sorry.” If only because he felt that that was the only way he could respond to Reajik’s story. An apology for the ordeal. An apology for having to repeat it. Maybe it wasn’t the best thing to say. But any more discussion on dead twins might push Luke over the edge of things he could discuss casually.
Luke cleared his throat, they could not stand like this. Not after Reajik had revealed such a personal thing. Surely, he wanted some acceptance. He had revealed that he was something of a murderer. At least temporarily. But he was admirable enough to make sure it never happened again. To control himself and make sure he never endangered anyone else he cared about. And that was what was important. So Luke found there was nothing to judge Reajik for. So he just had to be sure to show his acceptance. To make sure Reajik felt no more horrible than he had to for such a thing. Luke suggested, “So should we just ditch the kitchen now? I don’t think we should ask David for more work. Maybe go get some dinner? The three of us.” That seemed an open enough invitation to Luke.

(I'm gonna go ahead and post first for Anders' side, pardon me ^^''')
Sitting down, Anders still felt the nervousness when Cam began his diving. Closing his eyes, Anders took in slow, deep breaths as he felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in himself. He could feel Cam diving deep into his memory, almost taking possession of himself. But he felt Cam's grip on his person weakened but eventually stabilized, almost as if Cam had gripped firmly into his subconscious.
Only now did Anders opened his eyes (or he believed that he did), and to his astonishment that literally reverberated in the current corridor he is in, he saw faces that he thought he had forgotten. People marked in crimson, blue, green, pink, any other assortments of colors. People that he thought he had remembered, now just a fuzzy image, as if telling him that he knew not much of the person. Sydney in a red hue, Jay in a blue hue, Fell in a black hue, Cam in a white hue, and a buzzed out figure of a female in aquamarine hue. Anders stopped short of the figure, looked as if he was trying to remember but nothing came to him.
"Cam," Anders wondered aloud, hoping he could hear him. "Who is this?" he asked, pointing towards the pixelated and fuzzed out female. The only thing that stood out from the blurred image was a pendant of a glass vial containing some clear water.

Puffing out her chest in order to keep up the ‘tough girl’ attitude, young Larka swept any loose strands of hair from her face before replying.
“I demand that you get out of my face. Secondly, then, I want a pet parrot and have you teach it creative insults so I can tell it to speak for me when someone I don’t like approaches. When the parrot has been taught then you shall bring me to get Chinese food. Because I’m really hungry and I know you of all people can consume more than your body can fit.” With her chin raised high as she mockingly acted out as royalty, her act quickly fell as her tone dropped into sudden laughter. “No I’m kidding, I’m not a ‘Princess’ (obviously referring to Sydney). But I do want some food, and then after that…I…” Larka started to get chocked up with what she wanted to say, her insides telling her to flee from the nonexistent threat. “I want to show you and Aurora, and everyone else I mean, like…everything I can do now. I haven’t been able to do much! I swear I haven’t done too much! But I have been able to do something.”
----------------------
Reajik understood what he’d just done. He made it awkward. Again. Because he was there. Again. And he’s just…well, this must just be proof that people don’t change. Even while they technically have for a short period of time. It made him feel dumb. Really stupid actually. He just brought the mood down after they were joking along about David’s lame power, even though Reajik himself hadn’t actually seen it. Well screw it, he thought. In the weak attempts Aurora and Luke brought forth as some type of sympathetic apology, Reajik quickly swiped away the few tears and waved them away with the flailed gesture of dismissal. He gave another smile, although this one was far weaker than the smiles he had just previously showed to the two. They were more natural for him, so to say. Like how he was at the Sanctuary. As he paused for a second to listen to Luke’s tempting words, the younger twin jumped down from the counter enthusiastically in agreement.
“Hell yeah, I was just about to ask if you guys were hungry. Cleaning up after everyone’s messy dishes kind of makes me feel like being on the other side of that situation.” He turned to Aurora and give a little nod of his head, as though her words had just now been processed. “And thanks.” A little more generalized now when speaking up, he continued “To both of you.”

Ryker groaned softly at his cards, shifting them about with a frown before placing himself back into the conversation at hand. Jay had retaliated his queen bee comment with a remark about how Cain was really the queen bee here. Which Ryker supposed was true in a way, but he did catch the tone of voice Jay had said it in. It was obvious she didn't like the guy. He did suppose that Cain had the kind of personality that either clicked with you or it didn't. He knew most people who had been at the mall for quite some time liked him. Of course, Ryker himself couldn't say whether or not he /liked/ Cain. All he knew was that he was grateful toward him. After all it was Cain who had made the decision to take the wandering animorph in. As her friends sort of groaned at Jay talking about this topic again, it was easy to guess this wasn't her first expression of detest toward Cain. Ryker had to say that he understood though. Going from a needed leader, who had such feats as saving people from TWO different facilities under her belt, it would be hard to suddenly just be on the sidelines places in the same group as everyone else. To blend in and no longer be the one everyone went to for a problem. "Cain isn't bad when you get to know him..." Ryker started, frowning as he threw out a crappy play, "But I suppose no one could expect everyone to like someone. There are way too many personalities out there." Ryker would hope that Jay would understand that he wouldn't try to convince her of Cain's greatness. If she thought he was great on her own cool, if not, it's not like he was going to attempt to change her mind. There have been people he didn't like, so why should this be any different. So long as she wasn't jepordizing anyone.
-------
As Larka mentioned her demands Luka pretended to take notes as she listed them. When she started to laugh he began to laugh as well. He nodded at her mention at food though. "I could definitely use some food too. That's the most teleporting I've done at one time." Luka had a good enough grip on his power, as he was blessed with one that wasn't too hard to control. But he hadn't really used it that much, ever. Not in such a short amount of time anyway. He supposed it was good practice for if he was ever in the middle of a battle. Taking Larka's hand in his he pointed toward the food court, "Off to find food then!" Though he acted as if they would be walking, they disappeared in an instant and reappeared in the food court where a few other kids were getting food as well. Looking around at what he might want to eat, he also looked for Aurora and Luke, wondering what Cain had made them do down here. "Aurora should be down here with Luke somewhere. Since Cain sent them here." He rolled his eyes at his own mention of Cain before stepping up to grab some eats with Larka. Of course loading his plate with things like pasta, fried chicken and various other foods.
--------
As Luke mentioned not wanting to ask David for more work, Aurora interjected "I don't want to ask David for anything ever if I can help it." She gave a laugh as Reajik mentioned that he was hungry too. Then turned to thank them which was met with a smile from Aurora. "No reason to thank us. It's cool you felt comfortable enough to share. We won't judge." That wasn't really true. Aurora judged people all the time. Just not openly. She was sure most people were that way though. Even when they tried not to judge someone they did. I mean just deciding that someone was nice was a judgement. It just wasn't a mean one. Heading out of the kitchen with Luke and Reajik at her side, they made their way to the other side of the kitchen back into the food court. Aurora raised her hands and jokingly said, "Freedom!" With a laugh she went up to make herself a plate with a burger and some chili fries. She had never really been the type to worry about her figure. Probably because Gymnastics and her bo jutsu classes often kept her weight down anyway. She wondered if she would get fat now in their lazy situation. Nah. She would just find some kind of exercise to do if she felt she was getting bigger. Waiting for Luke and Reajik to grab their own plates she found an empty table for them to sit at. It was about then she noticed Luka and Larka. Waving them over she looked toward Luke, "Well there's Luka... I wonder where Sydney went?" She knew he would be wondering the same thing whether she mentioned it or not, so she thought she would show her support in it.

Sydney took her sweet time selecting her food, finally stopping when the kid behind her cleared his throat noisily and she almost couldn't see over the pile. That would do, probably. Luke, Reajik, and Aurora had slipped away at some point to get in the line, probably. Well, it was probably best that she couldn't watch them any longer. It was just making her stomach ache.
"Sydney, here." As she walked towards the tables, Ezra's voice drew her eyes across the room to where he stood, beside a table. His two sisters sat there, and a little bit of Sydney groaned, although these two girls were probably the easiest to deal with when it came to young kids. They were quiet. In fact, one of them barely spoke after the fright she'd been through in the past few months. Though, perhaps that wasn't something to be mildly thankful for. Technically, she should want the girl to recover fully. She knew Ezra was really concerned, but after the day she'd had, she couldn't feel the same way. Well, the point was, she could probably handle sitting there.
"Hi, Sydney." The older girl, Macie, smiled happily up at her, and Sydney smiled back wanly, wondering if the girl knew what a brush was. Probably shouldn't ask. She dropped her tray on the table and sat beside Ezra, glancing at the others. The single empty chair on her other side was glaring, and Macie's eyes dropped to her food. An awkward silence stretched across a few moments as the all fidgeted and took a few bites.
"Is your finger feeling any better?" Sydney nearly fell out of her seat when Cain's voice interrupted them. She hadn't noticed him approach their table, a bit of food with him. She nodded quickly, shrugging it off coolly. Cain smiled, seeming relieved, and took a hesitant step towards the empty chair. "Can I sit here? Some other kids might want to join in, too, if that's cool." Cain smiled hopefully, and Sydney and Ezra both nodded.
As a few other kids, like Connor, and Biana, the fortuneteller, joined them, pulling up extra chairs; Ezra launched into a vivid story about other radical things Sydney had done and different embarrassing injuries she'd endured. She found herself laughing along with the others soon enough, and raising her voice to correct him when his details got confused. Even Ellie giggled a little bit watching the two back in action, and Cain was near tears in his laughter. Bianca was somewhat less amused, though perhaps she was sick, because her mouth did have an unpleasant pinch in it.
--
Cam tried to clear away the memory of Trish, but none of the fog would clear. It was too strong. Ugh, it was frustrating. Suddenly, to his great surprise, Anders' voice rang out, and Cam retreated immediately, out of pure shock. He hadn't prepared for any noise. "Oh! Sorry, you surprised me." he gasped, as he took in his real surroundings again. "Ugh." he shook his head like a dog, trying to keep his memories and what he'd found straight.
Trish. He wanted to remind Anders of her, if nothing else. But he didn't know if he could. "Ah, um, I didn't get very far, and a lot of it was pretty basic...people you know, like me, or Cain, or Jay, or Sydney." he ticked off a few as he recalled. "And the last one, when I broke out, that was Trish. I...don't know her last name. I wish I could tell you about her, but I barely knew her. You knew her really well, though. She...she died." his voice cracked on the last word and he swallowed. "Does that...help, any? It was really fuzzy, I...don't even know if I can bring that back. I'm just not sure how to do it." he said dejectedly, resting his chin on his knees. "Sorry. Can we stop for today? I think I've had enough, and you probably have too. If you want to try again, though, I'd like to." he said, smiling sleepily at the older boy. "Thanks for the help."
-------several days later-------
Sydney squinted at her reflection in the mirror, lips pursed. Hm. After some appraisal, she decided she did look better than she had a few weeks ago. Admittedly, not hard to look better than a grubby fugitive with no brush and no bandaids. But still. Her hair was finally clean and not tangled, her clothes were fresh and not torn, and she wasn't getting hurt on the daily. She did still seem to have dark shadows under her eyes. Just couldn't shake them. Also, it was getting hard to relax her brow. Her default face apparently had become a scowl. Now, however, she wanted to at least try to look more friendly. Cain had told her, at her insistent questioning, that there was nothing wrong with how she looked, but he'd like to see her smile more, and maybe look a bit less like a grumpy kid. Thinking back on this, Sydney smiled at her reflection. It was sort of a mix of a smile and a grimace, sadly. Maybe because it was unnatural, smiling at a mirror? She thought she smiled a lot around Cain. Huh. How disappointed. And now look, she was scowling again. Doubly disappointing. And how could she make herself look older? He'd said a grumpy kid, just as she'd feared, but looking at her eyes, she didn't want to look older. That would mean gray hairs, at this point. "Uuuuuugh." she groaned loudly and spun away from the mirror. That was enough. She had better things to do.
"Hey Connor, what's up?" as she wandered through the mall, she caught sight of the short boy. He grinned impishly at her and held up the tablet fleetingly before jetting away. Guess he was helping Cain out. Beat her to it. Darn. She'd mainly done work to clear out debris and move large furniture, as one of the few people who could do it, and was willing. For the most part, new kids were still exempt from chores currently, though Cain had said he might start asking for some help in a few weeks.

---several days later---
“I think you’re right, it is really weird. I kind of thought she was just going through a phase after finally not being shot at anymore. But it is weird for her to change her mind like that.” Lately, Luke stood silently more often than usual and when he wasn’t quiet, he was commenting about Sydney’s recent behavior. Lately being the last few days. However, he seemed more lost in thought and quieter than even Jay remembered him typically being. He had come back around more often, claiming that Sydney was too busy. Though he also seemed to be hanging around Aurora more as well, now that Sydney was not taking up quite so much of his time. Luke mentioned Sydney’s busyness with a bitter tone every time she came up in conversation. Jay found it rather strange the sudden shift in their relationship.
Jay had thought Sydney smart enough not to let a simple crush drag her away from a good friend, even if they had only been friends a short while. Still, Jay personally thought Luke probably knew Sydney better than the rest of them combined. If only because he was subject to her whims the most often. Well, that was before this whole suspicious fascination towards Cain she had developed. Jay did find it strange, the dopey look that appeared on Sydney’s face whenever Cain strutted in her general direction. And the way her focus seemed to tunnel down to his every word, cutting out the rest of the universe nearly completely. It was all very strange, indeed.
Luke agreed quickly, “Exactly! It’s not just that she’s calmed down. It’s been /days/. She’s acting totally weird. And she won’t shut up about Cain this and Cain that. And none of it’s negative. It’s weird how she went from totally hating him to hanging on his every word.” Jay rolled her eyes, Cain was still a rather sore topic for her, nodding to indicate her agreement.
Luke sighed, slightly relieved that Jay was on his side, “Nobody else seems to think that it’s that weird at all.” Jay said, “I know, I asked a couple of the other kids yesterday and they seemed to think it was really fine and normal. Maybe I could try and talk to her, I guess, in order to see what’s going on in her mind. But she doesn’t really like me as it is. And nosing about her life is not going to enc-”
“Jay!” Shouting never meant anything good, Jay had realized in her interim as a leader, which seemed like an eternity away now that she was standing in the mall with no tasks other than making a cursory attempt to figure out what was wrong with Sydney. But that didn’t stop her heart from jumping to her throat when she heard her name. It was a little girl, her pigtails awry and her eyes ringed in red. Her mouth was bunched together as she whimpered again, “Jaaaaay.” Jay wondered how that girl had managed to fit an ‘h’ in her name, but that was not really the matter at hand.
Simultaneously, Jay and Luke knelt next to the girl, Jay trying to stop the young girl’s tears. She queried, “What’s wrong?” The girl drew a and across her eyes, whimpering, “It’s my birthday!” Jay could not see the problem here. This kid could not be dealing with the crushing weight of reality of mortality. Well, Jay supposed that was not that strange of an occurrence considering what these kids had seen over the past months. But this girl was only six or seven, so it seemed strange to think of her worrying about aging. Jay tried, “That’s fun though. Birthdays are great. You don’t need to cry about that.”
“Bu-bu-but no one remembered. And everyone says there’s no birthday parties here like there were before and…and I just…my mom…” Time to intercede. Jay shook her head, “It’s okay. We’ll have to fix that.” The girl’s tears seemed to dry after a moment of processing this comment, though her nose was still running. “Can we?” Jay nodded, “Absolutely. What’s your favorite flavor of cake? And favorite color?” The girl paused, “Chocolate cake! Pink! No! Not pink, definitely not pink.” She shook her head, trying to impress upon them the importance of this fact. The girl continued, “It’s actually purple. Definitely that. Because it has red AND blue inside it!” Jay nodded, “Definitely a good choice.” She glanced over at Luke, “Hey, can you see if there can be a purple chocolate cake?” Luke nodded, waving and heading off to try to arrange this before the girl started crying again.
Jay paused, “Hm, let’s see what’s next…” The girl jumped up and down, all traces of her tears gone, except for perhaps the reddish look to her eyes, “I know! I know! We have to get friends to come to the party! I know just who to invite! Let’s go.” She grabbed Jay’s hand, yanking her in the apparent direction of her friends.
And within an hour, Jay had masterminded young Leah’s seventh birthday party. It ended up being a rather exciting affair, and much better funded than the endeavors to celebrate birthdays in the Sanctuary, most of which involved frantic rationing to attempt to cobble together a cake and weary, semi-quiet party games. This was a much more exciting affair. There was yelling, which was not particularly pleasant, and round after round of every ridiculous game Jay could remember from the occasions when Luke and she had gone to camp.
Clearing her throat, Jay shouted over the din of a group of six-to-nine-year-olds, “Hey! It’s time for cake, let’s go to the cafeteria.” Her comment was met with cheers and jumping around, followed by movement in the direction of the cafeteria. Finally, Jay’s ears were nearly sore from the amount of nonstop chatter she had endured over the past couple hours. But it was worth it, to see Leah’s grins. Her guests had managed to find her little makeshift gifts from the stores (or their pockets, Jay suspected). And for a moment, life seemed almost normal. Except for the complete lack of parental supervision.
Pushing that thought aside, Jay led their small group to a table, receiving the almost purple cake that Luke had wonderfully arranged for them to have. After a quick round of “Happy Birthday” including makeshift candles and mention of Scooby-Doo, Jay began passing around slices of cake to the clamoring group of children. Jay was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when a voice sounded behind her, “What are you /doing/?”
Jay turned around, carefully putting the knife down next to the cake away from wandering fingers. The source of the voice was Cain. His hair was uncharacteristically out of place, as if he ran his hands through his hair like Jay did during her moments of stress. Furthermore, his lips tugged downwards, though his face displayed the slightly strain of trying to keep his countenance from a frown. His startlingly icy blue eyes met Jay’s own clear blue eyes, but they held no friendliness. However, all of this was disguised by his relaxed posture, his hands lazily shoved in his pockets, though Jay had a sneaking suspicion that this was to hide any fists he might be tempted to form. Jay replied, perhaps a little too sharply, “It’s a birthday party. Leah just turned seven.” She could not see why this would be upsetting. It was not as if she had staged some sort of revolution against him. No, she had simply created a celebration. Something these kids ought to have considering the rather grim world they currently endured.
Cain said, his voice low like he was trying to dodge a shouting match, “I hardly think that is appropriate. Don’t do it again.” Jay’s heart jumped, but not in a nervous way, but rather like it was trying to escape from her chest to strangle Cain itself. Her breath hitched, as if it knew it was about to take its last deep breath for weeks and her firsts curled into tight balls. He was telling /her/ what to do! She was not some little kid to be ordered around. She was not lighting things on fire or otherwise acting reprehensibly.
“Don’t tell /me/ what to do!” she exclaimed, maybe a little louder than necessary. Cain put his hands up, though he didn’t quite hold them up as an offer of peace, instead they seemed to be ready to pounce. He said, “I’m not, Jay. You just need to run this-”
“Oh my gosh! It’s a birthday party for heaven’s sake! You’re being a drama queen!”
“Maybe we should talk about this somewhere else. The kids.”
“No! You can’t just shut me up like you did Sydney! I don’t know what you’ve done, but I’m not fall-” Cain cut her off, curtly taking her arm and pushing her ahead of him, “Somewhere else.”
---
Incorrigible, Cain thought. He had thought for sure that he had had Jay sorted back when they talked over coffee. It was simple enough then. She had been eager for someone to understand being a leader. Being pressured into another state of being. And they had chatted away. It was downright easy. Sure, he had never really gotten the impression that she was falling all over him like so many of the other girls. But Cain had found that to be more of a comment on Jay’s romantic life (or rather lack thereof) than that she didn’t actually like him.
But the scowl on her face and the sudden rise of her voice said otherwise. She did not seem to want to put up with him for another moment. She didn’t take well to being told what to do. Bossy creature.
It was the shouting about Sydney that convinced him though. He was not really positive who was whispering in her ear about Sydney, but if he had to guess, he would say it was her worrywart of a twin who seemed perfectly happy to remain in her shadow- or Sydney’s for that matter. How could he stand it for more than a minute? Cain had ached for years in a similar situation and Luke seemed to have resigned himself to it. But it was not even resignation, it was contentment. And Jay was the one doing it too him. With her overbearing personality and madness about being in charge. No wonder Luke had to feign happiness. Better than being cowed under her as Cain had been under Thomas. But this would simply solve the problem. Luke could be free just as Cain was after he killed Thomas.
The thing that stuck him was two people within a matter of days. This was worrisome. He was not sure how many people he could maintain his hypnosis over. If all the Sanctuary kids proved to be this meddlesome, he would have to soon become more creative. Though, he had wondered about these two, as well as a few of the others the moment they arrived. The suspicious figure who said he could only hold his breath as his power, his guard dog of a brother, and maybe that sexy girl with the menacing eyes. They could prove to be bothersome later, but maybe getting rid of their leaders’ sense of rebellion they would become just as placid as the rest of the kids.
Meanwhile, Jay was huffing about taking her somewhere else was not the solution to the problem and so on. He was, admittedly, not quite paying attention to her words, instead trying to focus on getting her to his makeshift office, where he could lock the door and stop her incessant bickering once and for all.
Yanking the door shut behind them, Cain took a deep barely even breath now that they were safe in his office away from prying ears. Finally he could abandon the façade and shut up this menace. Jay, however, didn’t sense this shift, continuing, “I don’t know where you think you’re getting off whining about birthd-”
“Shut up for a minute, harpy!” Jay glowered, her rage moving from yelling and arm waving to more menacing, for she was frighteningly still now, “Excuse me?” Cain didn’t care how much she wanted to threaten him with her glares, he had the upper hand, “Shut up. You heard me.” Jay huffed, “And you’re accusing me of inappropriate beh-”
“You know, when Sydney came around making accusations, she didn’t yell nearly this much.” Jay scoffed, “I’m pissed at you, talking about Sydney isn’t going to change that.” But he saw the glint of change in her eyes. Jay glanced quickly towards the door, as if suddenly realizing she had not been nearly as clever as she had thought she was being, but she returned her gaze to him, thinking she was being brave when she was actually walking right into his trap.
“You think you’re so clever don’t you?” Jay took a step back, her brows knitted together tightly, “What’s that got to do with it?” Cain rolled his eyes before fixing them on hers, “I can’t believe it! You’re just like him.” Jay frowned, her tone terse, like she was confident he was insanely trying to change the subject, “What?” “Thomas,” Cain answered. Jay shook her head slightly.
Cain gestured for her to sit down, and she obeyed almost absently, not looking away from him though, her brows bowed in her cluelessness. “You know, how you constantly insist that you’re better than everyone else and you ought to be in charge. You keep your own brother cold in your shadow. I knew there was something I couldn’t like about you from the minute I heard you open your mouth, despite your looks. I should have known I’d have to do something to you like Thomas.” The flame of anger was gone now, Jay was somewhere between hanging on his every word, being incredibly confused, and trying to break off to the safety of the hallway with no room left over for her rage. “Who are you talking about?” she breathed.
“My twin.”
That rocked her world. Jay, while she might not have pieced together exactly what fate befell Thomas, knew it certainly wasn’t good news since she had yet to see him around the mall. Her breath quickened from the already slowed state it had entered moments before while he was speaking. She seemed to be attempting to get away from him, but her body only stiffened rather than actually taking her anywhere. Despite this, she was struggling to keep her eyes open any longer, already under his power.
Cain placed a hand on her shoulder, inching beyond the comfort zone of personal space, “But don’t worry. You’ll be better off that Thomas. You’ll live, happily too. Don’t worry your pretty little head. Good night.” He stepped back just in time to miss her big, arrogant head falling forward. Finally.
---
Jay had to say, she had gotten used to beds, so when she awoke with her neck oddly sore while sitting in a chair, she was puzzled. She opened her eyes, raising a hand to her neck to stretch the newly formed sore areas. Jay was further confused when she realized that she was with Cain. She vaguely remembered walking into the office, were they holding hands then? Jay couldn’t quite remember the details. Had she fainted? That seemed pretty ridiculous, but it would account for her apparently passing out on a chair.
After an all-too-brief conversation with Cain, Jay had determined that she had indeed fallen asleep because she was simply too exhausted to carry on their conversation. Though now that she couldn’t remember what they had been talking about so intently, the fact seemed rather irrelevant.
With that, Jay excused herself. She wanted to hang around, but she felt more like a nitwit than anything else. She would rather talk to Cain when she was properly awake and not embarrassingly falling asleep all over the place. /How unlike me,/ she thought. /I rarely nap. And I slept well enough last night. And if I had to fall asleep why did I have to do it in front of Cain? That was hardly an appropriate time./
Trying to shove her embarrassment to the side, Jay almost walked back in to apologize, but decided she had had enough of her shame and just wanted to escape it. Walking away, Jay sighed, not sure how to distract herself from that horrible, unforgettable blunder. In fact, she was rather unsure of what to do with herself at all.
---
After arranging for Leah’s cake, Luke found himself abandoned, for Jay was leading the children through rounds of games and Luke was not interested in getting involved in all of that. He was grateful because he had managed to slide out of the kitchens without getting some sort of chore from David. Not that kitchen duty was really excruciating, he just did not particularly like David telling him what to do. If only someone else was in charge of the kitchens, Luke felt he might not mind the menial tasks if they were ordered by a different mouth.
But now that he had escaped the kitchens, Luke was at a lack for what to do, because he had planned to spend some time investigating with Jay, but that was rather pointless without Jay.
So, Luke determined that the best idea was to find Aurora. He found himself hanging out with her more because of their shared duties in the kitchens while Sydney was still preoccupied with whatever her mystery task was. Luke hadn’t been able to really get it from her and he had not bothered asking Luka yet.
Thus, Luke meandered around, passing a few people he knew before finding Aurora. He smiled, “Hey, how are you?”

Ryker had been hanging around both his own friends from the mall, as well as his new found friends with Jay and her little group from the Sanctuary. He had to admit that he liked their company. They were an interesting group, and of course Bri seemed to always enjoy him making an effort to hang around them. It stayed this way for several days, until today. Today was a day he hung out with other mall kids. He felt like he should catch up with some of his own friends and maybe not impose on Jay's friends too much. Besides, he didn't really know where she was, and he didn't want to hunt her down. If they happened across each other then that would be cool. Otherwise... He'd simply chill with his own people. Or maybe entertain himself and some kids with his shape shifting.
Elsewhere was Luka and Aurora. Their routine hadn't changed too much with hanging out with each other and Larka. Of course when the latter was with them the dotted on her and the fact that she was gaining control of her powers. They were really proud of her. It was an amazing feat especially since they had been with her when she was so down on herself about not being able to control herself.
One new thing happening in Aurora's life though, is that she actually begun to hang around Luke and even Reajik more. She wasn't always stuck at Luka's side or looking for Larka or Fell. She seemed to have made more friends with Luke and her chit chatting about random things going on in the mall, or her and Reajik simply hanging out. Sometimes they would just become one big group all hanging out with each other. Luke, Luka, Larka, Reajik and Aurora. Sometimes even Fell if he was around. Though with him and Luka being near each other those types of hang outs never lasted long.
Today though, Aurora was on her own. Not really by choice, she had been with Luka earlier, but he had gone off to find Larka so they could all spend some time together. Talk about what else she had managed to accomplish with her powers. Aurora hadn't really gotten to spend much time with the girl lately so she agreed. Of course, sitting by herself and waiting wasn't exactly any fun for her so she was fairly happy when Luke approached her. "Hey! I'm ok. Just waiting around for some company." She laughed at her own last statement wondering if that made her sound lame. She really was waiting for that though. Since Luka was supposed to come back with Larka.
Aurora motioned that it would be ok for Luke to sit with her if he wanted. He was always well mannered so she knew it would be best to invite him to join her, otherwise he might just stand there awkwardly. "So how goes your day? Investigate anymore?" They had often talked about their concern for Sydney. Heaven forbid if Luka were around when they did, he would constantly go off about how the whole thing was fishy. She shook her head at her own thoughts but offered a smile toward Luke, knowing he was probably still concerned for the girl. She supposed he felt the way she would if Luka or Larka suddenly started acting strange like that. Well Larka was always strange... but maybe it would be normal? Ugh that was confusing.

Here's my super crappy post. 1st posts are always the hardest.
---------------
Beads of sweat ran down his spine with every inch his muscles moved. Some was trapped on the ledge of his defined collarbone; others plummeted to stain the mat beneath his bare feet. One. A skilled kick slapped against the punching bag with deadly force. Two. Right jab, right jab, left, right. Three. Another assault and this time another kick, the air cracking as his leg whipped to the side and left a painful impact against the bag. While he showed off basic moves Blackwell remained in sync only to his own thoughts. It was a mild state of meditation as he moved, so to speak. Contemplating his state of well-being within this mall, the state that the outside world had been left to rot in, and whether or not liberation from said country would be acquirable. His home is in England. Although he couldn’t find it any more ironic than it already is. The first time he attempts to take part in an actual school, the world goes to shit. At least the country he decided to visit.
That’s just a bloody miracle.
Feeling his comfort zone dwindle the longer he remained in this ‘training’ room (one of the few things he enjoyed made by the children) for more and more kids started to crowd the room, Blackwell returned to a casual, proper posture as he headed to the far wall to gather his belongings. Sliding on his socks so he wouldn’t have to worry about stepping on any disgusting trash a kid might have brought in, he proceeded to pick up a duffle bag and head into a small, segregated room within this one. He changed from casual sweatpants (which he wears ONLY when participating in an athletic practice) into a nice pair of black suit pants, replaced his naked chest with a white, collared shirt and black suit jacket, and returned his feet into the comfortable housing of slick black lace-up dress shoes. Oh yes. One must never forget the tie. And deodorant. Much to his displeasure his hair had been thrown out of place. Luckily for him a single motion of running his hand through his hair was enough to force it back in place. Confident that he now looked acceptable to society, Blackwell exited the small room with his duffel bag slung over his shoulders and his sophisticated attire masking any evidence of his recent exercise.
Some teens looked at him oddly as his figure fit in little with the crowd, and as a few jocks of some sort stood in his way of reaching the exit, he gave them a faded smile and placed a gentle hand on two of their shoulders. It was almost instantly that they began bickering with one another over trivial matters. Blackwell used this as his ticket to flee before any other kids decided to get in his way. What, or more like who, he found on the other side of the door came as a shock. Enough to make him halt in his tracks and stare with curious disbelief at the girl.
“Larka…?” he muttered, his question being clarified by the young girl’s squealing cry of childish bliss when she charged at him with an unnecessary hug.
“Clarence!”
Burying her face into his chest like he was some lost teddy bear of hers, Larka kept a hold of Blackwell’s jacket and even tugged on it, quite annoyingly, while she jumped excited to see a relative.
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be in England? Why are you taller? Why are all the boys in our family tall? How come you never changed your hair? Did you move to Boston? Have you gone to school yet? What’s your father’s name because I keep forgetting? Have you seen Fell and Reajik around? They’re here you know. Did you know that I was captured in a facility-faculty-can’t-think-of-the-word place and our mom was killed? What’s your power? I manipulate stuff. Can you brainwash people? Or explode their insides? Or turn the world cold with an icy storm and have us suffer like it’s Dante’s Inferno? Have you had a girlfriend yet? Or do you like boys and that’s why you never had one? Reajik thinks Fell is gay or something but I don’t think so because Fell likes Aurora. Oh yeah, and Aurora is like my new sister and so is Luka. Although Luka is a boy so he’s my new brother, and he’s a lot like Fell. What are you doing here anyways? Aren’t you supposed to be in England?”
When she finally shut her damn trap Blackwell didn’t know how he should feel. Feel relieved that she managed to shut up? Or disappointed that she said so little after years of not speaking? It was a confusing moment for him and as he began to open his mouth to speak, Larka grabbed hold of his arm and started dragging him God knows where. He put up no fight in this battle and just allowed his younger cousin to lead him to their destination…and once again, her mouth began running like she was trying to say everything possible before the hour ended.
“Aurora! A.ROAR.UH! I found someone! Where’s Luka? I found someone! FELL? REAJIK? IDIOTS?! I FOUND CLARENCE!”
“It isn’t necessary to yell, Eve…”
Whatever he said went in vain. Larka was too intent on capturing the attention of other people that she forgot to listen. Typical. After running through the mall like barbaric idiots, Larka saw Aurora and tried running at her with Blackwell in tow; this was something he simply could not stand for and therefore pulled back enough to where it actually made Larka stumble. When she fell she had almost no reaction. Again, typical. Instead, Larka continued to sprint towards Aurora, waving her arms frantically, and motioning for Blackwell to follow. With a scowl he willingly tagged along, then stood with his hands held behind his back properly while standing behind Larka. Damn…he must of dropped his bag when they were running. That bloody twit…
“Aurora! Look-look-look-look-loook!” accidentally jabbing a thumb into his ribcage, Blackwell took an extra side step away from Larka for safe keeping. “This is Clarence.”
Great. Introductions.

A new morning came to the mall and Alastar awoke with his same routine he had found upon arriving to this place. He would get up from bed quite early, grab a quick breakfast and then head toward the make shift gym type of thing the kids had made. He would work out to keep fit and head to the showers for a clean up. Once he deemed himself presentable to the world, he emerged to mingle with the other kids or to find Ryker and challenge him to some games. This day was the kind of day for the latter activity. Thankfully for him, he did not take too long to find his mate, as he was looking for Alastar too.
Hours passed as they spent time with one another, arsing around and challenging each other to both idiotic made up games as well as actual ones. Most of them were sports of sorts, some of which they would socialise and ask others to join in their fun. Only for the ones such as indoor football, which was perosnally one of Alastar's favorites. Even if he didn't understand why the yank kids insisted on calling it soccer and they would sometimes be confused when Alastar announced a game of football. Now, though, it was time for a different sort of sport. A good one to end with as it was a one-on-one challenge with just Ryker.
The sound of a hollow plastic ball ticking across the table back and forth was only accompanied by the sounds of breaths before a shout came of, "I win again!" A quick run through the shaved half of his black hair, Alastar's ice blue irises fixated on the red headed male who was only laughing at the taller lad. "Come on Ryker, you hafta try harder." Alastar urged his friend, putting the ping pong paddle down onto the table. They had been playing games since they had both woken up. It was something they usually bonded over. After all the two were quite into sports in their normal school days. They hadn't attended the same school or anything, but when they were awkwardly making small talk for the first time it had come up; It sort of became their "thing" since then. "Let's take a break then." Alastar suggested and he gestured toward the food court, to be taken as a signal that he wanted to grab something to drink. Possibly something to eat as well.
Reaching their desired point, it was unfortunate that they should have a run in with David - who, being in charge of the kitchen, was often there. " 'Lo Mother Nature. What's for grub?" Alastar taunted as he looked over the food deciding what to eat. His relationship with David was non-existent, or maybe you would consider them enemies. No, enemies was too strong of a word for them. It wasn't that they hated each other truly, it was just that they didn't get along as any two alphas with large egos wouldn't. For Alastar, though, it was particularly bothersome that David strutted around as if he had the greatest power in the world. Sure, it helped the kids here to not starve, but really in a fight he would be utterly useless, unless there were some vines or something around that he could command to his whim. Alastar knew many children that could crush him with their powers in an instant, but that seemed to bother David none. And that, was what was most annoying about him.
David, quite typically, shot Alastar a glare exchanged a few un-witty banter to which Alastar was easily the victor and went on his defeated way. This left the lad to grab a sandwich for himself and Ryker who was in tow snickering at the whole thing. "Well, whose day shall we brighten next then, mate?" The tall male asked whilst looking about them and grabbing a bite of the sandwich he had just taken. He hadn't had to wonder about his interests for too long as he spotted a brunette male seemingly searching about for something. This was intriguing enough for Alastar to point over to him, so Ryker would follow, before setting foot path toward this lost male. Alastar recognized him to be one of those newer kids to the mall. They had been here for quite some time but Alastar had only interacted with a few of them. After all there were so many damn kids in this place. "You look lost boyo. Can I helpya find something?" He offered as politely as he could, as to not put upon the impression that he had some ulterior motive.

A fog that was too strong, and a pendant of clear water. Those belonged to Trish, according to little Cam. Someone that he should know. But who was it? Cam did not give any clues as to what she looks like, but the pendant reminded Anders of that which is around his neck, a pendant the shape of a teardrop containing the same clear water.
Cam said he was tired, and Anders felt the fog as well as the images fading fast. As much as he would like to continue, he knew that going any further would be pushing it, and as he woke up from the trance, he gave Cam a hug and a smile of appreciation. "Thank you, Cam. At least I know there's this person named Trish," he said. Something about this Trish girl made his eyes shed tears, and he had a feeling it could be significant.
Something strong.
But he still could not place a finger on it.
Maybe the other Sanctuary kids know about her.
------several days later-------
It has been days after the mind dive, and Anders had done some prodding of his own. To his disappointment, it appears that he was the only one that knows this Trish girl the best, as only about half the Sanctuary kids know Trish, and even then to them she's an enigma. But the Sanctuary kids were still infuriated over his previous leaving of the Sanctuary, and probably because of that they chose not to reveal information to him.
Just maybe.
Maybe because it was Cam's influence, but Anders has been showing his face more and more frequently at the lower grounds, even volunteering to help out around in the mall. The mall kids have no idea what he could do, and to have him joining their scout team would be rather risky since he was an enigma to them, they had him on kitchen duty, to which he complied with his superior cutting skills, slicing and dicing the vegetation and whatever meat they could eat. His interactions, however, were severely limited to David, the mall kids in general, and probably a little with Luke when he shows up for kitchen duty, and even then it was mainly work-related, no casual chatters aside from the usual greetings.
At least it was a start.
Today Anders was not on duty, and he had been sitting up in the top floor of his own little haven fixing some broken kitchen tools as well as sharpening the blunt knives that the other kids obviously have no idea how to sharpen or care for them. It didn't take long when two familiar faces came to him.
"Hey," came the calling of a female. Raising his head, he saw the face of a tomboyish girl who in her hand is a metal staff. "Heard you're up here all alone. Thought you have left," the other person, a guy, whom he also know previously.
"Roxanne, Rudy, what brings you up here?" Anders stopped his work and then just looked at the Seismic duo. They haven't visited him ever since he came up here, alone, living as a hermit. To see them here was in reality, a pleasant surprise.
Roxanne and Rudy looked at each other with worried eyes, with Rudy at first looking least likely to start talking. The louder of the pair, Roxanne decided to talk.
"Something odd is happening here."

Jay ran a hand through her hair, looking around. Everyone else seemed to be busy going about their own business and she did not want to interrupt them. But, she also didn’t know what she did want to do with herself. Meandering down the hallway slowly seemed like the only thing she felt clever enough to do. Jay didn’t really feel like seeking out her friends. Because then they would have to figure out what they wanted to do and then it would probably turn into an ordeal until Jay decided. And she certainly wasn’t feeling up for that.
Well, she decided, I’ll just wait for someone to find me. Surely, if someone went along looking for her they would already have something in mind.
By the time Jay had managed to circle the building, with no one having interrupted her walking, it was lunchtime. She hadn’t even managed to have any cake earlier, so she was famished.
Cake.
The birthday party.
In hindsight, it was a horrible idea. And utterly embarrassing. She should have left it to someone else to take care of the party. Cain definitely would have done a better job. Maybe the kids wouldn’t have yelled so much if Cain had been in charge of them. Jay wished she had recognized his brilliant leadership skills sooner, rather than being stubborn about it because she was jealous. She was too old for that sort of petty behavior. Although, it was too late to change what she had already done. So she would just have to move on and be grateful for her newfound insight.
Jay’s stomach growled again. Apparently no one was going to find her, so she supposed the only solution to her hunger was to go get some lunch herself. Irritating.
As Jay made her way to the cafeteria, she spotted Sydney loitering around; she looked rather irritated, as usual. What was strange was, Luke was not there. Unusual. Well, Jay supposed it made a bit of sense. After all, Luke had been talking her ear off (for him at least) about Sydney being too busy and never hanging out with him anymore. As if he wanted Jay to do something about it. What could she do if Sydney had other things to do than hang out with Luke? Still, Jay was not sure what could be better, Luke was pleasant company. And generally agreeable.
Jay walked up to Sydney, “Hey, what are you doing? Where’s Luke?” She hadn’t really intended to ask the second question, but it just flew out. Well, perhaps she might get some answers to set Luke’s mind at ease. Though it was just as likely that she would tick Sydney off and lose her temporary company.
---
Luke said, “Well then I came just in time.” As soon as Aurora silently invited him to join her, he slid down beside her, stretching his legs out before him. Maybe not the best idea since someone could easily trip over them, but coordinating his legs to sit cross-legged was not always convenient. It often meant scooting away from other people to allow his legs to fit. It could be rather time-consuming and occasionally embarrassing.
Luke sighed, “Good, good. I made a cake for a birthday party. Jay’s orders of course.” He ran a hand through his hair, as if talking about Jay forced him to imitate her idiosyncrasies. Luke said, “Yeah, I talked to Jay about it. Before the birthday party, naturally. She said she’s going to poke around. She’s good at investigations. Very nosy.” Luke paused, “Thanks for asking. I’m sure it doesn’t bother you as much as it does me.”
Suddenly, a great noise approached them. The great noise appeared rather full of energy. And this quickly made sense because the noise was coming from Larka. Who was dragging a rather unenthusiastic guy after her. This ended up dragging her down, but that did not stop her. She continued towards them, apparently unaffected by her fall. The boy remained unaffected as well, still looking rather stiff and uncomfortable. Luke didn’t know him from the Sanctuary, so he was probably one of the kids from the mall. No surprise there, there were a mess of kids after all. Still, Luke was a bit perplexed as to why Larka was so excited to see this kid. Perhaps they had become fast friends. But the boy did not seem like the type to put up with Larka’s nonsense, so them being buddies did not make a lot of sense. Maybe if he just rolled with it someone else would ask, or explain at least.
Luke tucked his legs up, to prevent either of their new companions from tripping over them. Luke smiled, trying to be friendly, “Hey, nice to meet you. I’m Luke.” He felt better if he just kept it simple. Though maybe he looked kind of foolish still sitting on the ground with his legs tucked up to his chest while Larka and the new person, Clarence, remained standing.
